I was recommended to this place by a co-worker who'd been having some back problems, and with nothing to lose, I booked an appointment with Shun Sakai. Shun normally works evenings, which is ideal for folks who work a normal daytime workday, so I was able to drive over after work for an appointment after 6pm. The first consultation took a little longer than an hour, and Shun had me go through a series of motions, examined my back and range of flexibility, etc, and generally tried to figure out what I'd managed to do to myself. He isolated the problem pretty easily to a couple of vertebrae slightly out of alignment. I'd already seen 2 different massage therapists and an ergonomics consultant at work because of the pain I was having sitting, and all three of them told me different things, and none of them identified the exact problem area the way Shun did. He had a couple of ideas about what might be causing it and how to improve things, and sent me away with some specific stretches to do daily and an appointment to come back within a week. I ended up seeing him maybe 4-5 times over three weeks, each time he'd check up on progress and adjust his suggestions for stretches/exercises to do to get the vertebrae back in place. He also did some kind of massage with a hard metal implement that left my back a little sore but fixed the problem almost entirely. I honestly wasn't expecting my back to get completely back to normal within just a couple of weeks and 10 minutes or less of stretching per day, but a month later I feel completely fine again. Shun also did not try to stretch things out to keep me coming back for more business, when he thought I was back to normal he just said he didn't think he needed to see me any more, but to let him know if any problems returned. I definitely will, but so far so good, and I'm very impressed with how quickly he was able to identify and then resolve the problem.

I asked my friend, the athlete, who she goes to and she recommended Oksana at Art of Healing Pain. She told me that she had thought she had a stress fracture and was going to have to quit running right at the beginning of marathon season. After a couple of massage sessions with Oksana she was able to make it to every marathon she had planned on. She also managed to hit her time goals to boot. The Art of Healing pain is in the basement of a house in the Dickenfield neighbourhood. It's very clean and comfortable. Oksana is very thorough in her history taking and always seems to be able to get to the cause of your problems. I have been a regular of hers for a while now and I never leave disappointed. In fact I usually leave amazed at how much better I feel. She even manages to find the muscles that you didn't even realize were bothering you but were anyway. While on the massage table she's very careful at making sure you are comfortable and kept decent. She uses a blend of natural oils which leaves your skin soft but not oily. The music is soft and soothing. On top of her magical hands Oksana also has some awesome conversation skills. She know exactly when to talk to keep you distracted from the discomfort and when to leave you in silence to embrace the healing effects of her skill. Seriously I cannot recommend this lady enough. What I liked most is that she didn't rush the treatment and really focused on the areas I was concerned about, especially my lower face and jawline.
