None had yet been put up when I was last there, but the rule has changed. So credit where due. Also, over the course of two different visits, I surveyed the entire cemetery and came across a great many familiar names. I found the grave of an Assumption classmate who died very untimely, in her mid 20s. Her mother later died within a short time of my father, and they were listed in "The Westport News" obits together. There were many other likely parents and other relatives of people I went to school with somewhere in Westport. I came across a few former teachers as well. Sadly, a couple of people in my age group appear to have lost siblings, as I have. There's also plenty of names synonymous with Westport. My mother went to Assumption Church in Westport, but she and my father chose to be interred at Willowbrook Cemetery (5 stars). Sadly I had to arrange interment for my older sister, and placed her at the Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport (4 stars). Assumption Cemetery does not compare favorably to these, but I have found visiting can be enjoyable and rewarding. With more grandeur being allowed for headstones, it could yet become better.
