Highland Manor is a warm and inviting care home. Current staff, Lilly, and Louie treat all the residents with love and respect. The staff accepts suggestions. This is a very secure home for family members who have dementia. Recommend this home to families who want caring staff taking care of their loved ones. Russell, the administrator, is a "hands-on" owner. When looking for a home for a loved one, this is very important. He welcomes suggestions and is available by phone if he is not onsite.

I moved my mom to Highlands Manor from another facility. In the process the staff from highlands…read moremanor by law was supposed to go and evaluate my mom prior to the move. When I inquired when the staff was going to do the evaluation the administrator replied he would do it when she arrived at the facility. Also before admission a written evaluation from her physician was to be received. When I had it faxed to me I could not read all of it. I asked it they wanted to wait for admission until I received the hard copy the administrator once again told me know it was fine and he would take the hard copy when I received it. My Mom was not a good fit for this facility. Had the facility done due diligence we would have know this prior to her transfer. Instead she was admitted the staff did not give her her medication for the entire two weeks she was there and then complained about her behavior. The administrator was rude and more concerned about his staff quitting because she was a difficult patient. If they had taken the time to evacuate her and spoke to her doctor like they were required to do before her transfer we probably would not have had to move my mom again in such a short period of time.

My mother is an Air Force vet that has frontotemporal dementia. She is 63, which is a little early to be experiencing this. I went on a tour of this facility back in January, so this has been a very slow process. I told Virgina my mothers age the day of the tour where she wrote it down, as well as other details such as the current facility my mother is at. I was concerned when I would call back to check on the process that she would ask me the same questions over and over, as if Virgina is suffering from dementia herself. She has been making false promises since February when she verbally told me my mother was approved to move in the first week of march. The first week rolled around and I didn't hear anything from Virgina, so i called her direct cell where i have been getting sent to voicemail ever since because she apparently has been having back to back family emergencies or events where she goes out of town (lol). She will send you to voicemail, then ask to call back later through text. I guess this facility was rieed of my checking on the status of the placement because they finally determined today after months of deliberation that my mother is suddenly "too young". This was already after Virginia said she would be moving within a week. They knew my mother's age months ago, it seems as if they are just lazy and want to pick and choose who to care for. Glad they showed their true colors before I sent the person I love the most in the world here... if anyone can suggest facilities that are diverse and have caring staff (as my mother is black), I would be totally open to suggestions because I am starting from square one again.

My mother was a cantankerous Jewish woman from Brooklynn who always found things to complain about in life, and she never complained once about anything at the Belmont! Individuals like this answering the telephone at a place of business dealing with the elderly population; should NOT be the first line of communication. She has no compassion or phone etiquette and I'm extremely disappointed that my sister facility chose this location to discharge our patient.

Very recently, this occurred again and she ended up first in the emergency room, then was hospitalized for a couple of days. I have asked to speak with the director to inquire about staff protocols and whether or not a RN is on staff. She has not responded to either calls or emails. The actual staff working with my mother seem very caring. Management seems very lacking.

She requires 24 hour care and I moved her to the closest facility to where I live. We're so lucky that it also happens to be a great, clean facility which I can say that with assurance after all this time. The caring and competent staff is what makes it so great from the front desk and Genny, who initially helped me make the move happen, to Michelle and Kathy in the business office who helped me navigate the Medi-Cal application process, to Leena who has also been thoughtful and kind. The CNA Mario and Jane are my mom's heroes... there are many others I should call out by name... so grateful to all of them for taking such good care of my mom. They've also slowly been remodeling and made great improvements... the showers were pretty depressing before. I actually really like all the carts made out of PVC pipe - clever! I've seen these at other facilities as well. My mom is a picky eater but whenever I try her food I like it! Healthy multi-course meals which she unfortunately mostly wastes. (In combination with all the enormous waste in the medical field anyway.) They always make sure she has her ice water as well as hot tea. I'm there regularly which I'm sure helps, but a patient in any hospital or facility greatly benefits from having an advocate. My only issue is that I'd prefer to have her at a facility which is a non-profit. I don't think healthcare should be a for-profit business.

I am posting screenshots of the medicare website for this facility's rating. If you live your family DONOT take them here. Patient care is minimal, office staff unprofessional. At the time of my complaint their executive director either or fired or resigned and so did their social services director. Within 4 months two executive directors were replaced because NO one wanted to take responsibility for facility's poor performance to the point they abused their patients. The RED hand next to their name is Medicare's recognition that the facility has proven history of abuse.
