The park is named for Tibbetts Brook, which in turn is named for George Tibbetts, a Briton who had settled the land in 1668. The park is bordered by the Cross County Parkway to the north, Saw Mill River Parkway to the west, McLean Avenue to the south and Midland Avenue to the East. Tibbetts Brook Park is north of Van Cortlandt Park along South County Trailway, and Tibbetts Brook crosses north-south through the park on its way to the Harlem River.

I love that the trails are color-coded, which makes it easy to gauge the difficulty and mileage for each zone before you head out. The trails are very dog-friendly, which we really appreciated! While there is signage asking people to leash their dogs, we encountered a few people with dogs off-leash, and honestly, everyone was super friendly and respectful, which made for a great environment. One tip for fellow hikers: while there are maps and markers throughout the woods, they can be a little hard to spot or follow in certain sections. Since cell service can get pretty spotty out there, I'd highly recommend downloading your trail map beforehand just to be safe. Overall, it's a beautiful place to spend a morning--definitely worth checking out!

The place looks well maintained, with benches & gazebo. No parking in the park but we found empty spots on the streets. Lots of what looks like locals are walking their dogs. They don't look friendly, maybe they could tell we are not from there. I assume they are more strict during the warmer months. So if you are not from westchester like us, i recommend visiting in the winter or maybe fall.

Another heads up, you can only assess this beauty from the north-bound lane. I honestly don't know how big VE is, but we cut our 4 mile walk on the path short just because it was so humid. But based on VE's info, the park goes further south into Yonkers and north into Hawthorne (maybe further up?). VE is a big-enough park with an easy path, a pond and open grassy areas. There are also some picnic tables past the entrance, where you can enjoy your meal and you can take in a cute view of a waterfall by the pond. As far as COVID is concerned, folks on either side of the path- whether walking, running or bike riding- ALL kept their masks! If you're looking for an intense hike- count this one out. And if tranquil is something you're after, with an easy stroll, VE is very doable.

Years ago there wasn't much desireable here...but they've really built it up into a place where not only locals can enjoy, but others can come to visit...doesn't happen to much is the less desireable neighborhoods, or boroughs for that matter. The waterside view isn't the best, as the water is stagnant and pretty dirty as the dredge is about 1000 feet ahead in the next park over: Concrete Plant Park. Needless to say, it's got a lot of greenery, and is overall peaceful. As this is a new park to the area, it's is a great area park for the neighborhood. It appears they will be expanding it to connect to other area parks in the future, like Concrete Plant park and another park to the North. I'm looking forward to seeing the Bronx River House, which will be a NYC Parks facility that will serve as a community education center and boat house for the park.
