While we actually came for the beach, my kids couldn't leave the area without playing on the playground, and frankly, we ended up spending more time here than at the beach! There's a fun ship to climb all over as well as a spinning rope thing that I've never seen before and made us all dizzy. There are varying slide sizes, which is good for kids of different ages. There are a few spots for shade, too, which is clutch. We'll be spending more time here, for sure! read more

As the temps grower colder, I am missing this quiet space even more. My husband and I enjoy bringing our lounge chairs during the spring and summer months. A truly serene and quiet space to spend an hour or two. The only small downside is there is limited parking and it is situated on a rather busy main road. read more

One of my friends was dogsitting for the day and since she knows I love doggos, she invited me to come meet the pup as well as spend some time outside and catch up. I met her here at Harbor Island Park - since I had never been before, I was excited to check it out. Harbor Island Park is located at the cross of Boston Post Rd and Mamaroneck Ave; the latter is a long road that runs Downtown White Plains trough Mamaroneck, and this is effectively where it ends and you meet the water. The park is really spacious, there's plenty of parking and a lot of open fields that can be used for multiple activities. Additionally, there's a playground and a couple of baseball fields and a private beach open to residents of Mamaroneck. I also noticed some buildings that gave off catering hall vibes which makes me think one can probably arrange to have a party or whatnot here. Overall, I had a pleasant experience at Harbor Island Park. While I'm more inclined to Glen Island Park in New Rochelle and Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx, this park holds its own and it a nice way to spend some time outdoors. read more

Right where Mamaroneck Ave. ends and you can't get any further- is Harbor Island Park in the Village of Mamaroneck. Based on us driving past the unattended entrance kiosk, seems like Harbor Island is a free-for-all and opened off season. You can't miss the water because Harbor Island opens up with the boat dock smack dab in the middle where Mamaroneck Ave and Boston Post Rd. meet. If you do boating, call ahead to make sure they have temporary/long term docks, fuel or other services you might need. Road signs are visible and straightforward- so getting in and around the park itself is easy. There's also a small Beach area towards the back. Unlike the park being open year-round, the beach area however, is obviously closed (and gated) during off season. Our plan was to get seafood dinner from Harbour Fish, pack up and eat at home. But weather was mild on a Friday evening and was a shame to let the day go to waste. Got our dinner, parked the car and sat facing the water. Took a stroll afterwards then heard some music down yonder. Sure enough, there was Music and folks doing Zumba in the Pavilion! I thought that was cool! So it seems like you can rent out the pavilion for events and such. It was a nice waterfront experience. Not that hubby and I drink from public water fountains, but our mood went downhill and noticed a couple walking their dogs and heading towards the water fountain. Naive us- we're thinking the adults were heading for the fountain themselves- but they actually helped their dogs get on their hind legs to reach the fountain. And I totally get it, these idiots want to keep their dogs hydrated. But at that moment, hubby and I just felt grossed out. So please Management- the same way it's easy to navigate your Park, the Beach and the Dock with ALL your signs AND for the sake of cleanliness, please provide appropriate ADULT-ONLY signage for your Fountains. read more

On a warm summer day, this is the perfect place to go for a walk after a nice meal along Mammaroneck avenue. Four stars because it couldn't be easier to get to and the park is free. If you're coming from another town like me and don't have a car, just get off at the Metro North Mammaroneck stop and cross the street. You're right there on Mammaroneck avenue which has so many nice places to eat like great burgers at Smash Burger or fantastic pizza at Frankie and Fanuccis. Then right at the end of the avenue is the entrance to Harbor Island Park. I wish there was more seating although there is a very nice walkway that goes along the entire park with some park benches alongside. I also wish the beach was bigger. It's rather tight and packed with kids on the weekend plus $7 per adult to get in behind the fenced in sand. That's why I prefer this park for a nice walk after dinner. I hope to come for some of the Summer festivals at some point. read more

Harbour Island Beach is one of the best in Westchester County! When my daughter was young I would take her to this beach every other day, and we would have a great time. I especially liked the splash pad and the park where my daughter could play on, and enjoy herself. The admission for non-residents has increased and would recommend the season pass, to save money. On the grounds, they have a huge field for soccer, baseball, and sitting with family. When I was younger, my parents used to take me and my siblings to the marina, to watch the boats go by, while we ate lunch in our car. The memories are very clear, of those times. read more

Great time. I took a trip up there to snap some photos from the Bronx. The trek there sucked. I ended up taking Boston Post/Main Street all the way up because 95 was back up. Parking was easy, especially for a Saturday afternoon. The views there are simply beautiful. Tons of privately owned boats docked there. There are large grassy areas that are open to everyone though the fields you might need permits for. There is also a a child's playground there which is great. Everyone there was nice and greeted me with smiles. There are a lot of parks that require fees or county residency, but this one require neither. Definitely an overall great experience with lots of photos to reflect upon. I will upload a few here. read more

I haven't been here yet, but I'm inclined to give a 5 star review because of what I've read from others and MOSTLY because the town of Mamaroneck has opened the beach and provided good details online about how to enjoy and navigate the space. Please check this out before you go: https://www.village.mamaroneck.ny.us/parks-recreation/beach-and-parking-info In short, beaches are open to residents most of the day, and non-residents starting at 1pm. Beginning Friday, June 5: Beach Pavilion Restrooms are open to beach users and will remain open daily during regular beach hours (9am-5pm). All other Harbor Island Park restrooms remain closed. Two (2) portable restrooms remain available for the public to use: one located in the East Basin and one located in the West Basin. These portable restrooms are cleaned and sanitized twice daily: once in the morning and once in the late afternoon. Please note the following guidelines: No more than two (2) individuals or one (1) family are allowed in the beach restroom area at any given time. Beach restrooms will be open to beach users/staff only. Face masks are required while in the beach restroom areas. Indoor shower facilities will remain closed. The Spray Ground is closed until further notice. The beach will be open to VILLAGE OF MAMARONECK RESIDENTS ONLY between 9:00am and 1:00pm. A wonderful resource for Mamaroneck. Plenty of recreational fields, walking paths, room for exercise or picnics. There are tennis courts year round in the center of the park, a playground, a beautiful marina in both east and west basins, a yacht shipyard in the east basin, a beach house and beach, and events year round. The most well known event is the annual Fireman's Parade and Carnival, as well as spectacular 4th of July fireworks that rival New York City and Washington DC. 2014 had the first annual "Beerfest". read more

There's so many great things about the playground located in the park. The play equipment is so inspired and has a nautical theme. And there's so many different kinds of play equipment to explore. It's even fun for adults. It's new, modern and innovative. It's worth taking a day trip out of NYC just to see this playground and visit downtown Mamaroneck. Walking the harbor is pleasant as well. Went today for a couple of hours, three kids (8,7&5). Wasn't worth the few hours for the price, BUT if I'd known, I would've made a day of it. Excellent play park -and excellent beach. Wasn't crowded or overwhelming. Will certainly go back and make a day of it. Very clean. Very nice staff. Clean bathrooms. Totally with going a random mid week day for the day. read more

Harbor Island Park - Great atmosphere - Parks Near Me - Mamaroneck, New York

As a first-time visitor to the park, I found the harbor to be fine but felt that the people in charge were quite inhospitable. I also feel fleeced of a good chunk of change. On pulling up to the guardhouse, I explained that it was my first time at the park and that I wanted to visit the beach. I asked many details about directions to the beach, and received much information on how to get there. Yet never did the guardhouse attendant mention that the beach was closed to swimming for the day. I paid the entrance fee, parked, and walked to the beach--only to find it closed to swimmers. I immediately returned to the guardhouse, with my entrance receipt in hand, and was informed that the rules prohibited me from receiving a refund, despite the beach being closed to swimmers for the day. I then called the office as well, and spoke with another person who similarly explained that the fee was entirely non-refundable--again, despite the fact that my clearly stated purpose for entering was to visit the beach, which in fact was closed to swimming for the day. In the end, I paid $7 for 20 minutes of (pointless) parking. Never in my life have I spent more on 20 minutes of parking. It seems to me that the policy here was applied in a very unfair and inconsiderate manner, given the circumstances. I really don't think any small-business owner would ever treat their customers this way and stay in business very long. I doubt I will ever visit this beach again. read more

This beautiful scenery of boats and water in Mamaroneck , N.Y is one of my favorite places. Surrounded by great old trees that gives you calming feeling and a great breeze. You might be able to go running around here but I only go for walks. I would go back for a picnics and may be even for a run. read more

The harbor is slowly becoming a better place for all families near and far. They hold many events down at the harbor from family fun night, fourth of July fireworks, local band concerts, to beer fest in the fall. Many sports can be played like soccer leagues, volleyball leagues, baseball and softball leagues, there is even a couple of tennis courts. There is a beautiful park that has some new additions for the kids. This park is perfect for a little bit of everything. In the summer there is a camp that is held at the park; they go on several trips and join plenty of the fun activities that occur in the park(aka kayaking&pedal boats). If you are a resident I recommend you go to the office located in the building infront of the beach. Residents have a discounted rate for parking passes and beach season passes. You must be a VILLAGE of mamaroneck resident. If you are not a resident of the village you can still receive a parking pass or beach season pass, the price is just slightly higher. read more

Nice place for the kids with the sprinklers, sand, and parks. Once you hit the beach area you're hit with an odor. For me I immediately smelled oil. Like motor oil. My boyfriend went in the water and came out feeling like he just rubbed baby oil all over himself. I didn't even go in. The water is BLACK. You can see oil in the water. I spent a pleasant afternoon on an idyllic day in early April. This park offers a lot for families: it's right on the Long Island Sound, there are docks, it has a beach open in the summer, ball fields, a playground, and picturesque walking paths around the sound. A not so hidden gem on the Sound Shore. This park is a village park but is open to everyone and for what it offers it is the very few things that make life close to fair in this part of Westchester county. The park has an incredible playground, plenty of fields (need permit to play on softball fields), a beach that is not the cleanest in terms of water quality especially during low tide but I like to ake my kids down ther at low tide to catch starfish, crabs, and dig up piss clams, theres fishing off the dock (permit required), and a sprinler park. They have plenty of family friendly events and the village runs a day camp there. Picnicking has been curtailed but they have a gourmet food truck parked at the end (a little pricey but woth it and they take cards too) The only time I ever had a problem at this park is when a thug parent got rude with my disabled 2 year old over her daughters sand bucket and her Latin King (I recognize the tattoos so dont think Im profiling) husband gave me a menacing look aside from that theres a decent crowd and Ive been there long enough to know its an isolated incident. The park has a good revenu stream (resident/non resident parking fees, beach fees, marina fees, fishing permits, rent from the food truck, local taxes, and public/private partnerships) so there no worry about the park cutting services, nickle and diming park goers, or excluding non residents like some town parks in Westchester. read more
