I took classes online, so my experience may be different than students who took their classes on-campus. Nonetheless, I would not recommend online courses at this university. Faculty and staff are disconnected from online students, almost as if they don't see them as students at all. Very poor communication with major departments (registrar, student services, bursars office, etc). Getting feedback on assignments was close to impossible because, quite frankly, they don't respond to emails in a fair amount of time. I've taken online classes at other institutions before and didn't have any problems, so I'm not against online programs. In my opinion Wilmington struggles with integration. The only thing they see in common with an on-campus and online student is the check they cash. read more

This has been a 4-year, very disappointing experience. I selected Wilmington University because my employer has an agreement for a discounted tuition rate with them, but more importantly because they supposedly have a dedicated contact for online students. Well.... The first year was good, although what the tuition reimbursement company (EdAssist, nightmare but a different review) - also contracted by my employer - requires for tuition reimbursement cannot be found/obtained on the school's student portal, so you have to ask someone every.single.month for those documents... and THAT, my potential students, is a nightmare. I read somewhere that online students are not really considered to be part of the school, and I have found this to be quite true. As time went on, every email or notification I received was about on-campus events - NOTHING directed to online students - and trying to get anything from the admissions office or other departments via phone or email was practically impossible. If you're not physically there, you're just an invoice, so I would strongly suggest that potential online students select a school that has moved into the modern age and is willing to work with digital/technology to improve the online experience. I received both my bachelors and my masters here at Wilmington University. I came in to my programs having real life work experiences. I feel like the teachers are fair and knowledgeable. I also know that you only get out what you put in. I found classes easy to fit into my schedule, my chair was available and helpful. The staff is all polite. I am one semester away from completing my Master of Science degree in Human Services Administration from Wilmington University. I really cannot say enough how excellent my experience has been. This university is not perfect and not for everyone. The working professional seems to be their niche as most of their programs are designed for those with professional experience already who can use their experiences to contribute to the online classroom and foster learning amongst everyone, the professors included. I have taken online courses at a state University where I completed my Bachelor's degree and didn't have quite as good of an experience as I have had at WilmU. At first, I was very reluctant to enroll in this school and when I did I had thought about transferring. But a strange thing happened. I actually started looking forward to my classes and engaging with my instructors. The course content interested me and made me want to do more and learn more. Most of the instructors that I have had thus far are very fair graders, provide valuable feedback, and have shown a genuine interest in my success as a student in the program. Why didn't I give it 5 stars? Mainly because there have been a couple of professors that were just plain awful I'm sorry to say. I really hate that a few bad apples ruin the whole bunch, but these two professors really should think about a different career path. With these professors, I was brutally honest in my course evaluations in hopes that someone will read them and hopefully make some positive changes. Despite the criticism of a couple of the professors, all of the others I had were fantastic. Professor Fischer-Klein, you are amazing and really inspire me to continue my career in this field. Professor Martin, your feedback and willingness to engage with students about how to further our careers in human services has been so appreciated. To be successful at this University you have to have a commitment to your chosen field and show that in the work you do. The old saying is you get what you give and that is very true with Wilmington University. I would definitely recommend this school to any hard working professional that is eager to learn and grow in their chosen profession. I have read some of the criticism in the other reviews and honestly, if you are looking for a University that is going to hold your hand from enrollment to graduation this may not be the place for you. This University is geared toward working and mature professionals that are resourceful and capable of taking initiative to get things done. I drove an hour to Delaware on Monday to get a Finance situation straightened out after multiple emails and calls were unsuccessful. I was greeted by the two people who work in Financial Aid. (One replies to emails only- This is why you can never reach anyone. The other one actually works but it is apparent she hates her job.) The school had my loan terms wrong for 2016-2017. They awarded for Fall/Spring instead of Spring/Summer. This makes a big difference because my former employer paid for my classes during Fall and some of Spring, which made them mess up further and give me refunds for all of Fall and part of Spring. This was a fairly large return, but I had applied for enough to live on since I wasn't working at the time and this was the first return I received so I didn't notice. This makes a difference because the rude woman had the nerve to ask me, "Didn't you notice your refund was higher than normal?" ...better than, "You're not eligible for Summer loans." What? Last time I checked (with your office) I HAD to take summer classes to keep full-time status. I explain multiple times to this woman that I call every single semester to ensure my finance obligations are met. I even explain that after I received a letter from higher education saying my 2016-2017 loans were "revised" that I called right away to make sure my status was okay and asked what that meant for me and that I was told I would have to pay back whatever was revised later. I still don't know why they were revised. The woman was rude. She literally said to me, "Well what did you do with the money refunded to you? Use that to pay the balance." Oh. My money? The money I applied for? Well. I assumed my the school paid for my classes because I never received any bills and I called each semester to make sure, first. Then, I used the refund to pay bills like rent, a car payment and insurance because I'm almost 32 years old and I don't live at home and I'm trying to live a normal life while still going to school full-time. Not that it was any of her business. ...but I just kindly said- "After I checked to make sure my classes were paid for, I paid bills." ...because I assumed the rest was less than kind. Kindness does get you somewhere, though. Despite holding a line of 10 people up behind me, the woman came back with a form and said I could just "simply fill this form out and ask for the school to revise the terms." Because I was only awarded 13 of $20,0000 (I'm still not really sure I understand this part. 2016-2017 is over. I DID only receive 13,000. Where is the other money??? I was awarded $20,000 in loans.), she explained that by filling out this form, they could pull from the remainder of that amount and pay for the Summer balance. Fine. Done. Trip successful. She did have to make one more smart remark before I left and say "you could have found this form online." Who are these people? They must get paid nothing to hate their jobs so much. You would think all would be well now, right? NOPE. Just got a phone call from, who I think is the same woman, stating my form was denied. Why? Because one of the classes I took during last summer was a pre-requisite to my MBA. I took 3 undergrad classes throughout my MBA interchangeably with my grad classes as I needed them because they were not my favorite classes. This happened to be one of them. According to the Financial Aid Office, they can only change the terms for me if I was in graduate classes only, even though this was a pre-req and I needed it for my MBA. "Loans only pay for classes within your area of study." So I say- "What about the other two pre-reqs? The loans paid for them." So now, she says-"Well I'm going to have to check on that." Hey. GIVE ME MY MONEY. MY student loans that *I* applied for and that *I* was awarded and I will take care of these bills, okay? In what world do schools get to determine what classes I'm allowed to spend my student loans on? This is my money that I will have to pay back in large sums very shortly. I want the remainder of 2016's loans and no more surprise bills. This should not even be happening to me on my senior year when I'm trying to sign up for my final classes. When the next economic breakdown happens because of student loans.. you'll know it is because the students were busy paying surprise bills to the schools and not their actual loans. America, we can do better. Stay as far away from this school as you can. I only rated this as a two star, because the in-person and most online adjunct have been great. However, it's clear the curriculum is unrealistic and micromanaged by dept heads. What is the point in finding adjunct in their fields if they are so micromanaged and the curriculum is disconnected from reality and is politically left-wing? Not only that, the courses also don't match the level of learning. You don't option of taking lectures with online courses, so you're stuck learning the content on your own. You're even being taught by adjunct, who don't even have PHDs, in the upper-level courses. The ppts they provide are useless for studying and aren't in depth enough to suffice in place of a lecture. Yet, you're still being charged the full tuition you would learning in-person for two-thirds of the effort from the University. Their upper-level courses, including seminar and research, are designed as though you have never seen before, at a middle-school level. So, you're stuck doing a bunch of mundane assignment that are useless for GRE and venturing into graduate-level school learning. If you want the piece of paper, yeah go here. If want to gain any real-world learning and be prepared for grad school, do yourself a favor, and don't waste your time here. Go to the University of Delaware or University of Maryland for an actual college-level education that is reputable and current. read more

Too much money is spent to go to college for the college not to care. I went to this college because it was my family's alma mater. It was a mistake and my family says the school has changed. Perhaps it never adjusted to becoming a University. Calls don't get returned. Advisors don't advise. Completely disorganized. And, when you do get a hold of someone, they just don't care. In my opinion the school makes a good effort having classes instructed by teachers who are still working the their profession. I am currently enrolled in the psychology class. The campus has fantastic facilities, and the teachers are wonderful.

I just graduated from Wilmington University. The online classes were great and teachers were wonderful, but I just received my diploma in the mail and it looks cheap. I was expecting a diploma with Old English font throughout the diploma and the city and state upon which it was obtained from. If I had any idea if was going to look like that I would have went to another college. I'm disappointed in Wilmington University as a whole, I even called the school and they told me that It wasn't their fault that Jostens made the diploma. I explained to them that they hired Jostens and they tell the company what they want not the other way around. I was thinking about receiving my Masters from Wilmington but after a diploma like that I will be looking elsewhere. read more

I am an education major there, and just completed my second year. One complaint I have is that it is very hard to communicate with the advisors. You need to schedule an appointment just to have a 5 minute conversation with them. Parking is also a huge pain, sometimes I have to park off campus and take a bus back. read more

I signed up for the Digital Film Making Course as listed on their website. I drove up to Wilmington University in the Spring to sign up and registered in the fall and took my first block class. Each week, I drove up from the beach, spent the money on gas, a few times a hotel since my class schedule lists class time from 5:30-10:30. Each week class got out so early that we could have learned so much more, and what I did glean from my class could have been taught in one five hour class for 250. max, NOT almost 1,000. And then it was a total bait and switch with the very last night of class, the instructor told me that I would need an additional two, possibly three classes to be able to have the knowledge to go forward to the second class, which the prerequitsites as of this writing, still show only the first class as needed to take the second class. Had I been made aware of all of this, you would think, very basic, critical information, I would have made a very different choice from the beginning as this was an out of pocket expense, I was made to think around 4,000, NOT 6,000 or 7,000. Now, to make things worse, the University will not answer my letters or acknowledge their error. I strongly suggest that if you are interested in attending Wilmington University that you research and ask the proper questions because they will not go out of their way to make you truly informed. Unfortunately, I learned this the hard way and for the money and what I got out of the one class I took, I think I could do better elsewhere for sure. Hope this helps. read more

I have been at this university for 3 years now. I have taken a mix of online and face-to-face classes. Personally, the online classes are 50/50. Half the time you get a good teacher who will respond and grade in a timely manner. Other times you get an okay teacher who rarely answers emails, doesn't grade quickly, and provides very vague instruction. My biggest concern is NEVER being able to reach the Academic Advising department. I have quite literally been trying to reach the advising department for 6 months over the phone. I work a full time job and am only available to call before 9 and after 4... and my call has never been picked up. It's extremely agitating. I had to do research and find who may be my advisor and email her personally in order to set up an appointment. Why is there a front desk if they aren't going to do their jobs and answer the phones??? Overall, this school could use a serious seminar on customer service and communications. read more

It is challenging to be an online student. After they have your money, watch out; they are not helpful. Student are entitled to ask questions and it is their job to help out instead of directing to website to watch video,etc. I have contacted them a few times. I certainly understand that getting started with learning the appropriate key words to use can be challenging...and frustrating, but it is a skill you will continue to develop as a doctoral student. I have a Master's degree in Family Practice and Education. I obtain these degrees online through other universities NOT Wilmington University. Wilmington University hire instructors that are NOT qualified to teach students. The instructors do not respond in a timely manner and then will blame students if students post late, turn in assignments late because she, the instructor replied to the students late. She also refused to respond to my text although her phone number was posted on the course syllabus. Phone numbers should not be posted on course syllabus if the instructor do not want to receive text or phone call from students. In the email she told the Dean that I, the student was interrupting her and her family. How was the student interrupting her and her family when her phone number was posted and students paid a lot of money to receive the education and mentoring from instructors? Of course, they do not care once they had the student's money. How is the student expected to post to the discussion blog, get the assignment done in time and post them, if the instructor cannot and does not respond in a timely manner? She posted online to the announcement for the discussion board that she will give students full credit for responding to two peers. However, she responded late to my email and then refused to give me the points for responding to peers. Since she, the instructor did not make students a priority on her list, and therefore responded late to students, why should students be penalized for late posting? In response to my question as to why she did not give me credit, her response was that I should have told her I was going to post to the discussion blog and submit assignment late. Does this make sense - if the instructor is late responding, the student should have told her in advance posting and assignment will be submitted late? She refused to respond to my phone calls as well, and stated in an email that she prefers communication to be by email. She also expected students to use CLC at the day and time appointed by her. Students live in different states and are not on the same time zone; I am 3 hours behind EST. When I was unable to reach IT because of the different time zone, she said in an email that no other students had the problem I did. Another example about Wilmington University is the instructor will grade week 5 assignment and post for students to make correction to week 6 assignment after the week 6 assignment is past due date. So how is the student expected to make improvement to the assignment? If the instructor cannot respond according to the standard she expected from students, that says Wilmington University is NOT worth my money as a student, consideration or time.
