Funny story, I discovered this place by delivering food to them and didn't know they were doing "retails". I thought they were some kind of funding institute because the clean and ecstatic look of the place. Though, they offer quite competitive price to online stores and with excellent service. I've been coming to buy and sell for quite some time and have always suggested this place to people. I don't get why people are so upset about their service here, often with words "rip off", "scam", "low ball", "rude" which is so sad considering everyone coming here is into precious metals. They should have a better understanding. First off, most people have know idea that it is a razor THIN margin to run a precious metal business. Let alone having a top quality physical location in prime Santa Monica! They need to make money right when they buy from or sell to you on the spot to cover the overhead cost. Not betting and hoping for the best later. The problem people seem to have the most is also when their expectation is crushed. Guys, the paper price is not the same as over the counter price. And I doubt if people ever use the paper price even at a coin show. It is very subjective when you add the word collectible to anything. Just keep your fun-stack fun, don't price it with imagination. And they're also not being rude, they just don't sugar coat to make a deal, or they probably got other things to do if you have to wait. They want your business, but it is NOT required. When you think you can get a better deal else where, but in reality can you? With this little effort? I emphasized the word "retails" in the beginning because they're doing the community a favor by letting ordinary people quickly convert cash to sound money in small amount, in a very safe and convenient location. Edit (9/23/23): In response to the comment below. Saying you are not a numismatist and that you were waiting for an expert to come look is literally what happened. You had another guy look at the coin and that person looked at it for 5 seconds before you guys both walked away. On top of that I waited 5-10 minutes for you to even get a quote. When you gave me the quote you wrote it down on what you quote a "contract" where I could not even take a picture of the prices on the contract because it was binding. You already had the paperwork ready to take my coins. The fact that two people looked at the coin and STILL made a mistake even though the coin is graded and has the title in clear fine print on the coin holder by PCGS shows the pompousness of the staff. Original (9/15/23): Unfortunately these guys are willing to waste everyones time including their own. I called in because I had two gold coins I was looking to get a quote on and they said they were too busy but they would be happy to look at them if I stopped in. I specifically asked them over the phone if they only pay spot price or if they pay the value of the graded coin and they said they do pay the value of the graded coin if its graded by a well known company like PCGS. I go to their store and I show them my two coins and they gave me a quote for $2065 on my PR69 2020 V75 1 Oz American Eagle and $2345 on my PR70 2020 V75 1 Oz American Eagle V75. Any quick google search will show you that these prices were worse than lowballing. They were entirely scam prices and if you sold even JUST the lower grade PR 69 they would have 1.5x their money on the sum of BOTH offers they gave me. These guys are supposed to be professionals but its clear that they are here to scam you on pricing and waste peoples time when they could have just told me these prices over the phone. I understand stores need to make a profit but it's one thing to give a quote while having room to make a profit but it's an entirely other situation to give scam quotes hoping that the seller doesn't realize what they have. Other than that the place is well secured, clean and nice. Only two parking spaces so look for street parking if parking is not available. read more

So, I went into Wilshire Coin last Monday at around 4:00 PM and was greeted by Dan the smelter. He seemed friendly. I brought in some gold bullion parts. He said that it was real simple. He would test and smelt down the product and pay 90% of the going rate which was $3,005 Monday 03/25/2025. I weighed my product on a gem scale in grams and had 36.6g. He said that they pay in Troy oz. I agreed and the deal was done. I called up the following morning and left 5 messages because I had some follow-up questions. Dan was not able to return my call because they have been quite busy with the Palisades fires. The manager, John, replied and was able to answer my questions. My only complaint is contacting them.
