Some of the good companies I found do not cover Gainesville area. Then one my of neighbors recommended Retex. She had the roof done in August and Retex was the cheapest quote. So I called Retex, and the phone was answered right away (not like some other places I called). Wes met with me over zoom and went over the whole re-roofing process with a powerpoint presentation (what would be replaced and what might be extra). The quoted price wasn't the cheapest, but I liked how Wes went through the whole procedure, so I decided to go with Retex. The job was done promptly, the crew was courteous. Wes was very communicative during the whole process. What I liked the most is that whatever concern I had, Wes would address them until I am satisfied. Looking back, it would be an even better experience if I told them my expectations in detail before the job was done. There isn't much rain yet, but I believe the roof will hold up in heavy rains. Even if there is a problem, I am confident that Retex will come back and address it. I would definitely recommend Retex to friends.

During this time, I learned that not everyone likes a do-it-yourself like me. Some even said I wanted, "free work." Not true! However, the current installed prices spoke to me. I grabbed my tools! Pulling a local permit as a home owner/builder in Florida, I installed a 2 ton (24k) ACIQ-24-HP32 condenser and ACIQ-24-AH32 air handler, and related mechanical. This system replaced a 26 year old 1.5 ton (18K) Trane XE-1000 condenser and TWGO18A air handler that was showing its age -- like me. One of my main hardware vendors, HVAC direct, patiently worked with me as I learned the new system requirements. With help from Isaiah Luke Appliance Repair to do the final commissioning of the system, the new ACIQ inverter system passed local inspection! The new system is a noticeably quieter and produces considerable heat split by comparison with the previous system. The fact that the ACIQ has a higher BTU rating, (24K) a higher seer rating (18), and yet uses smaller breakers, 30A down to 25A on the outside unit and 30 down to 15 amps for the inside unit and doesn't dim my lights when it runs, says it all. I paid an additional $180 for the part and labor in January 2025. Despite repeated, polite follow-ups, he never returned to do the work and eventually stopped responding entirely. Now, in June 2025, we've discovered water stains on the kitchen ceiling -- directly under the same shower -- confirming an active leak and likely structural damage. If he had followed through promptly, we could have avoided what may now be a far more expensive repair. I'm out nearly $500 for incomplete and ineffective work, and I'm incredibly frustrated by the lack of accountability or follow-through. I would not recommend this handyman to anyone.

Then I got a few more emails from him, each very rude. I wrote saying to never mind and that he'd lost a job. DO NOT USE THIS MAN. If there was a negative rating, he would get that!
