This was only my second time dining at Wimpy's Diner, albeit a different location. The reviews weren't great but I was hungry and close to this place. Maybe I should have tried somewhere else. Read on... There was a sign out front advertising a patio and that's what really caught my attention. Walking in through the front door, the place was dark. There was somebody lying down on one of the bench seats and he jumped up when he saw me. He turned out to be my server. He directed me to their patio through the side door. It turns out, I was the only guest at the time but two tables out there hadn't been cleared of dirty dishes. My inner voice was telling me to leave but I was tired and hungry. How bad could this be? My server soon returned with cutlery and a menu. I chose the Hot Hamburger, an old-school dish consisting of a 10oz burger patty with gravy on sliced bread, mashed potatoes, and vegetables. While waiting for my order, I started noticing things in this dining area. It was a mess! There were used napkins, menus, straws, creamer containers, etc. strewn about the patio. One of the umbrellas was torn. Trust me, it wasn't good but no need to post any embarrassing photos about it. After waiting a bit longer than I had anticipated, my server showed up to apologize for the wait and said the cook prepared the incorrect dish so I had to wait a bit longer. My order finally showed up. It looked like a generous serving, kinda like what I was expecting - kinda, sorta. The gravy was very lumpy and salty, obviously made from a mix. The mashed potatoes were dry and cold. So were the veggies. I suspect these were from the incorrect plate that was made earlier. The meat was as I had expected, not bad but not great. This whole dish would have been okay if the sides and gravy were better. The service turned out to be okay - polite and attentive. Would I come back? No. With zero customers, they had more than enough time to clean up the place and turn on some lights to make the place look more inviting. Two customers came in as I was leaving. We had a shower at WIMPY'S DINNER RYLANDER, not a place you would envision BUT, we had it professionally decorated (at the back of the restaurant) we were secluded from other patrons. The food and service was OUTSTANDING. They went the extra mile, including a large greeting at the front door. We had people from under 2 years old to 92 years old and everyone loved the buffet. We a few items to take home but all fit in a little bag - 40+ people ate well. I couldn't believe the final bill - so reasonable, less than expected. Pleasantly surprised by decorum and menu offerings at the new Pickering location. Wife and I enjoyed the eggs Benedict and regular bacon and eggs. Good quality, clean and quick friendly service. I have given one star because the young lady that was serving was quick to greet me as I entered and was attentive during the meal. But I came for a meal and that was very very disappointing. The building was very cool, it was almost like they had the air conditioner still on. The food seemed to take a long time to come and when it did it was served on a stone cold plate which made sure that the food was cold shortly after it was served. I ordered eggs Benedict. The eggs were done just right but the off white goop on top was bland and tasteless. We had a choice of home fries or French fries I made a mistake as the fries tasted stale . This location was my favourite for many years because they did the best eggs Benedict but it has changed hands and not for the better. I will need to keep looking. Don't waste your money ! Hamburger it was the worst. I ordered fries and hamburger , portions are good but the hamburger was bland and distasteful. The first order contained a stone in it and the second one was chewy. Some of the bits of the patty were so chewy that they stretched and stuck in between my teeths and i had to leave asap to brush my teeth. It was so uncomfortable amd mind it that i had my teeth work done about a year ago so jo gaps. Still the patty managed to go intoy teeths. I wanted to ask for refund but the redeeming point is the staff. First time dining here and food was pretty standard fare. There's a good variety on the menu...all-day breakfast, sandwiches, salads, steak, fish and pasta. I found portions were a bit on the modest side. Pretty standard diner taste, nothing noteworthy. There's ample dining room with a very oldies diner ambiance to it. Waaaaaoooowwww. Please run away from this Wimpys. Run far far awayyyyyy. It is awful. Truly truly awful on all fronts that count in food service. We walk in on a weekend afternoon and the place is mildly busy. We stand at the front waiting to be seated and no one approaches us. Not a single server acknowledges us, not even to tell us to take a seat anywhere we want. I'd understand if it was busy or something, but there were many empty tables and the servers were running around as if they were slammed. And there were about 4 servers for a total of about 10 tables TOPS. So I don't understand the shitty ass service we got (or didn't get as we walked in the door). We stand there in some confusion, trying to figure out how their seating works for around 5 minutes before finally taking a seat at a table in front of us. The table was dirty. So they wait until people sit down to wipe down the table in front of you and put down cutlery. Gross. Took around 15 minutes for a server to come to our table and hurriedly take our order. My boyfriend ordered a bottle of Canadian and was served a pint...by a different server. Service seems disorganized and ridiculous, we heard one server yell at others for some bullshit. Everyone just seems panicked for NO REASON AT ALL. It's brunch on a Sunday you guys, and it's not even full capacity. EVERYONE RELAX and focus on decent service. Our food was generally awful, My bacon wasn't even real bacon - it was some weird fake bacon closer to the travesty that is "turkey" or "chicken" bacon. Eggs were rubbery, potatoes were not memorable. The best part of my meal was their rye bread. Which...should say something; that the toast that they likely purchased elsewhere was the best part of my meal is depressing. This place is messy. Messy service, messy food and messy servers. You are better off literally anywhere else. Like honestly, go to the Dollarama next door and get a chocolate bar. read more

Haven't been here in years and this morning, my cousin decided she wanted to go out for breakfast so since there's one just down the street from us, we decided why the heck not. The place was pretty empty so I got seated right away and was asked if I wanted a beverage while I waited for the rest of the party, so I just ordered the water. But once the rest of my family came, the service level just dropped. Not sure if it was maybe a language barrier thing but the waitresses weren't very friendly especially for the type of casual atmosphere Wimpy's brings out. They would either rush us to place our order or would be walking away while we were still speaking with them. What makes things worse or complicated is that we're with an old grump (my Aunt), my cousin who is a server herself, and I myself is in the hospitality industry. Still, we kept our cool and were still courteous. My cousin noticed that the server only started to be nicer when we were pretty much done eating and were ready for the bill. Welp, the server didn't get a good tip, that's for sure. So service-wise, I'd have to rate this place 2.5/5. As for the food, portions were great considering the pretty affordable prices. One thing though is that for a glass of apple juice for kids, refills should be complimentary or at least lower the price (it was $2.99). I'd rate the food 4/5 since I'm still waiting for the honey I asked for and the coffee we were served was barely warm. If I could give this location less than one star I would. The customer (dis)service is the worst I've ever encountered. Wimpy's Diner So we decided to check out this location for something familiar as we had frequented a Wimpy's in Brampton a few times. The service here was very friendly. This place has a 1950's vibe that at this location looked a bit worn. It was also a bit dark which did not add to the place. Some of the plants should be given the heave ho and some of the seats need to be fixed or replaced. I checked out Today's Specials after browsing the menu. I had, as an appetiser, the plate of onion rings. They arrived promptly, hot and tasty. Personally, I could have had a few more which would have made sharing easier as a starter. My wife had Club Sandwich - turkey, cheese and bacon. She liked it along with a side of fries. I find with any club sandwich it is hard to avoid over cooked bacon. Personally the strip should not be 10 seconds anyway from being bacon bits. I also felt the fries were very bland and ketchup did not add anything to their appeal. Stick with the Rings. I ordered the chilli with toasted bun. However, I was told that chilli was no longer on the menu - even though it was on the white board. So as a quick default I had the chicken Caesar large size. The fillet was done nicely but it was a bit salty. The salad portion was decent. Not heavy on the garlic which was fine by me. I figure a 3 out of 5 is a Yelp recommendation so as I can't do that for this place so I gave them a 2. read more

6 of us went here to celebrate Fathers day. we always go here because of the food and the people who run the diner. Today new owners, no mac and cheese,no shepards pie. The roll the chicken was on was hard as a rock. The cheesecake was half the usual size. The only good thing was the waitress who was great. The burgers was good and the size of the patties cut in two you can make a double burger. But I have to say why did the staff and some of the patrons kind of weird. #keepinit100 for real. The place does provide us great memories growing up rummaging the neighborhood in our teens. Any who the food is good but I would recommend a different location. read more

Very nice interior at this location. Very clean and well organized. Staff is really nice and food is so tasty. The burgers are big too, wish they served more fries though. The milkshakes are even better, but is priced high at $4. The food I found to be expensive too. Not somewhere I'd be going all the time but once in a while for sure. Ive been to Wimpys many times. I usually order the original hamburger meal. It was excellent until recently they changed their burger. Why change a good thing?? Now the burger is nothing special. Not enough to come back craving it. One thing I like is you get a good bang for your buck. Dinner for two is like less than $25 if you play your cards right. However I dont think the cooks are that friendly to their employees. One time I had to ask a waitress if she was okay she seemed upset and crying after she was yelled at by one of the cooks. Loved Whimpy's Diner, 65 Rylander Blvd Scarborough and recommend it to families visiting the Toronto Zoo. We visited on July 29/11 at around 10:45am for breakfast, after ditchin' the Delta East for it's overpriced buffet and snobby staff. We came to Toronto from Ottawa to visit the Toronto Zoo and stumbled across this restaurant and are happy we did. Excellent home cooked food with friendly service and very fair prices. I appreciated the fact that although this is a diner the food was not greasy and was well prepared. My son loved the bacon plate and our 3 year old loved everything. Really good food for the price and perfect for families wanting a full belly for their day at the zoo, which is only 5-10 minutes away. We will be visiting Whimpy's again. I wish they had one in Ottawa. read more
