It seems to be a very well oiled machine after so many years! The race draws a huge crowd which made it fun but also a little challenging to run from a later start group-kind of like a lively game of frogger hopping around walkers, kids and adults, groups big and small, and navigating roads, curbs, grass and sidewalks for at least the first mile. The course was crowded the entire race so prepare yourself. A fun time overall and who doesn't love a good finisher t-shirt at the end! Definitely worth doing at least one!

Race day for me began ten minutes after midnight. The room I stayed in came with the 12:10 'car…read morehorn-alarm' wake up call at no cost. This is my first gripe about CdA: it's extremely hard to get a decent hotel room. It's called GOUGING and it's in full effect as 2500 athletes and their irritating spouses come rolling into town needing a place to stay. A craptacular room can run you $350+ (if you can find one). Out of bed at 3:50am, 1200 paleolithic calories and one shower later I was out the door. Transition is well organized, though I wish they'd put up gear bag racks instead of just stacking the bags in order on the ground. Check bike, inflate tires to 120psi, reset computer, hit up the honey pot and lube up for the wet suit. 5 minutes later and I'm on a very narrow beach with 2300 other people dressed like seals, ready to take the 58 degree plunge. I decided to pick an inside line to avoid swimming more miles than I had to, but it was also the most crowded line. To give you some idea of the mayhem....imagine being in a building flooded with 10' deep icy cold water with thousands of other people. Then imagine the building is set on fire. And then imagine there being one exit that's about 8' wide and 2.4 miles long. Mass hysteria, total anarchy. The fact that people rarely ever die in triathlon mass-start-swims is a fucking miracle. After roughly an hour and twenty minutes of kicking, punching, near drowning and eye gouging I was in the T1 Tent tearing my swim stuff off and putting my bike gear on. The bike course....well, aside from one hairpin, I thought the course was pretty boring. Everyone remarks on how beautiful CdA is, but I just wasn't feeling it. Water, trees, some mountains....oh it's all nice, but spectacular it is not. By the end of two 56 mile loops boredom more than pain became the thing I had to battle. T2: Same as T1. The run....well, the run was great. The spectator support was exceptional, the weather was cooperative and the course is relatively flat, plus there were a lot of places to throw up with a decent amount of privacy. The end....amazing. If there is one great thing about doing an M-Dot vs. a non M-Dot branded race of the same distance, it's the spectator frenzy. Though I'm still holding strong on a couple dreams of mine, I know I'll never compete in the Olympics, I'll never be a great political figure (yuck!), famous actor, cult leader, dictator or flash rock star. But finish an Ironman and you can indulge in your own peculiar brand of megalomaniacal fantasy.

My friend did it in 12:41 and I am totally proud. His first time doing any of the three and he does it all at once- crazy! From the bag pickup to the many stations, the volunteers were great and helped direct us to where we needed to go and it felt like organized chaos. It was a bonus that we got to see him at each of the transition areas and also during competition. Great gjob everyone and we all had a great experience!

I do recommend getting the picture and video package because of how fun this was. We got our deal on Groupon, and I got 5 laps, which was definitely fun, but YOU'LL WANT MORE LAPS, so get more if you can afford them. I didn't give 5 stars because my car broke down twice during my 5 laps, and they said they gave me 2 extra laps as a result (but that's not true), yet I'd do it all over the same again, even with the breakdowns. This was ABSOLUTELY FUN!!! The ABC's: 1) Show up on time, and you'll register, where they pressure you into extra ($60) insurance, or you pay $15k "on the spot," if you wreck/damage the car. You don't need the insurance IN MY OPINION, then 2) You attend a 15-20 minute class where the bossman explains all aspects with plenty of emphasis on safety, then 3) your group, as a group, makes way to the track/pit, after the previous group is done & walking back (EVERYONE SMILING), then 4) you suit up, helmet off for pictures of you sitting on the race car door with feet inside for pics, proceed to get inside, put helmet on, an assistant buckles you into the 5-point harness, you put the steering wheel on, then 5) (most impressively) you put "your ears on" by sliding your "spotter radio" speakers in the helmet and follow your spotters instructions for the rest of the race, 6) as you enter the raceway with other race cars (some solo, some ride-alongside), GOING FULL THROTTLE at the explained parts of the track, passing (when given the okay by your spotter), and allowing others to pass (when instructed by the spotter). PLAIN & SIMPLE, THIS WAS AN ABSOLUTE BLAST!!! Thank you to all staff, crew, and other racers!!! Unreal, lifetime, bucket-list experience!!!

This is my favorite track to race on…read more The facilities are OK. Bathroom is large and clean. Showers are available. Food leaves something to be desired. As far as the track...I love it. There is not a turn on here that is not fun. T1 full tilt on an SV....scary. T2 down around left. I LOVE T4 through T7. I wanted to figure out the T8~T11 combinations. Unfortunately this track is up for auction and we won't race here. But I absolutely loved this place on a motorcycle.

We consider ourselves to be at intermediate riding level so 2 hours of very slow riding was a bit boring after a while. This is absolutely perfect for beginners. If you're an advance rider you'll be bored. Horses were gentle and friendly. They were well groomed and appeared healthy. The ride is somewhat scenic. Most of the ride was through the forest trail . Our guide could be more personable. I didn't really care much for interacting with her. Also, horses are trained to be walking very close to one another which personally I didn't like. I prefer riding some distance away from the horse in front of me. My horse's head was almost in the butt of the horse in front of me.

It was a perfect mix of a little uphill, downhill, very scenic with the mountain views. The horses were well behaved and we had a pretty big group too. The kids rode up front behind our trail guide and then my husband and I were behind them. My stepdaughter who's 11 had Gravy who was such a well-trained horse. She barely had to steer. I had Emmy Lou and she also was amazing, barely had to steer her. My husband had Shiner who took every opportunity to eat which was funny. Our trail guide was great! We also met the owner who was really nice. They have a lot of horses. Overall, highly recommend this horseback riding trail!

I had to go horseback riding because my stepdaughter is only 12 years old. The rule of the…read morehorseback riding trip is if the rider is a minor, then there has to be an adult accompanying him or her. My husband is probably scared of horses, so he made me signed myself up, knowing I am not fond of horse riding (the first time I was on a horse was when I was 9 years old). It was an easy find to go to the ranch. We walked into the meeting area, where we were briefed by the 2 guides about the horse and basic steps on how to maneuver with the horses in case they decide to stray off or something, but keep in mind these horses are able to keep up with single trail walking as long as they're feeling it and you as a rider aren't too nervous and tense because animals can sense your emotion, too! My horse just decided to stray off on his own for a bit, but I was able to guide him back to the group with the guide's help. My horse also decided that it was fun to run up the hill for a bit, and I was able to pull back on his reign to make him stop. Not the horse'a fault. It's animal's instinct. The part that really freaked me out most was when we all walked single line along the steep hill. I didn't want to look to my left because I didn't want to die. The horses are smart enough to not stray off from the path, so that was good. The ride is really 1 hour long like advertised in the payment. Remember that you will be greeted in the beginning, be introduced to your riding horse, be saddled up, be riding the whole way with 1 guide in the front of the line and 1 guide at the back of the line supervising, and be gone for about 1 good hour (ground level , up the hill, down the hill, then back to the ranch). The guides are really good about keeping up with the safety of the group, and the horses are good with their temperament. After the ride is over, the guides will help you get down from the horses and ask if you'd want some water and you are finished with your horse riding adventure. The horses around this ranch are muscular and well-taken care of, so .... No complain from me! Yes, my horse also wanted to snack some hay after the ride because he saw some hay from one of the stalls. I also got to see horse pooping and urinating, so how glorious was that ?

In my opinion, it's not really worth the price. While the views are nice, they aren't significantly better than what you can see by simply walking along the park paths.
