Vacation trail rides is my son and my favorite thing to do. A few of the most important things I…read morelook for are healthy horses, happy horses and safe guides. I'm relying on them to keep my son safe. I enjoyed Big Horn. Luckily this is a location (mother in law lives close by) that I frequent so we will definitely be back. We opted for the s'mores before the ride. Great thought but terrible decision. This should be after the ride. Both my son and I had a terrible stomach ache during most of our ride. Only outhouses available. We powered through because there were 2 other people in our group and we won't be party poopers (pun intended.) If I remember correctly, this is inside a park. Budget 30 extra minutes (+ the 30 min early check in) because the line to pay to get into the park can be really long. Hopefully the horse ride and the front check in people are able to talk soon so reservations are allowed to enter for free with your service receipt. Overall, besides the tummy ache, we had a great time.

However I wish our guides (Skylar and Stella?) would have been more informative and interactive. We informed them we are beginner riders, 4 out of the 6 of us had never been on a horse and the other two had only been on a horse once many many years ago. I wish they would have told us (before the ride, not as it's happening) what might happen on the ride and how to handle it or how to calm a horse if it gets a little antsy. Over all I would recommend this place, perhaps maybe just ask a million questions before they have you get on and take off.

The kid wanted to do horseback riding since that has become a "tradition" when we are in Estes…read moresince she was 2 years old. We went to one place and they had a defined schedule for rides and were all booked. So drove over the Sombrero and were able to get a horse right away. We like Sombrero because horseback riding is "on demand." They don't have a set schedule. You get a horse whenever you are ready. They have great flexibility. Not only can you leave on the guided tour on your schedule, they offer different lengths of time. In July 2026, $50 for 30 minutes, $100 for an hour, and $135 for 2 hours. Cost is per person. There are longer trips too but I did not pay attention to that pricing. The kid and wife did 1 hour and really enjoyed it. Age requirement is 6 and up for a horse. They also have pony rides for kids under 6. The guides tend to be college kids who work for tips so be sure to tip them. Everyone who works here is super nice and friendly. The horses seem to be well cared for and happy. We were very pleased with the experience and undoubtedly will return the next time we are in Estes.

Authenticity - The old west comes alive here. There is no corporation running the show. This is the real thing. Trail rides to spectacular places on horses that want to ride. Led by read and local people. Friendly - A local family that has owned and run Meeker Park Lodge for-ev-er comes out to greet you and welcome you to their little piece of paradise. On-site staff often feature Ms Dever's herself, but you may also meet Chloe, a local high schooler who has been working with horses since she was 13. Barb may lead your ride...and she may sing you one of her cowboy (girl?) originals. Affordable - $35/hr (summer 2017) per person is a very good price for a spry horse, expert guides, and a lifetime experience. Beautiful - If you want Rocky Mountain beauty as it was intended...this is it. We've been on 1hr and 2hr rides to stunning places at Meeker Park Stables; from babbling brooks to rocky topped mountains and beautiful wildflower meadows to scented forests. These are real trail rides....not nose-to-tail dusty marches. You may get some trotting or even cantering in.

My wife bought a groupon for this company for our anniversary…read more My wife scheduled a ride for Her, I and our 2 kiddos for June 9th, 2019. We drove an hour and a half to get to the place and we of course showed up an hour early, met with Mike one of the wranglers and he invited us to take a stroll while we waited for our ride, we did all the paperwork and got the kids helmets picked out, went for a beautiful walk and returned for our ride. Sadly Mike almost in tears says we were not on his schedule, said it happens quite often and hes left as the face to be the bad guy, we tried calling the office line but no answer, we were turned away to drive an hour and a half back home, great anniversary right? So not a single call from anyone in the office to appologize for the error, we contacted Groupon and got a full refund but still, not even an apology from the company for basically ruining our planned anniversary! Mike was great and it wasnt his fault clearly and the fact he got emotional made it all the easier to walk away friendly even tho my wife was really upset and my kids disheartened. I sure hope this company has more people like Mike and realizes they have very poor customer service to at least reach out to a customer and apologize for the inconvenience but I guess they just dont care. I wont ever schedule with this company again, and surely wont ever recommend them to anyone because of this situation. I'd recommend people to just go a few miles to Estes park and visit with Sombrero rather than deal with this irresponsible company. Thanks again Mike for your empathy and I hope you have nothing but great rides and the very best in life, you clearly deserve a great life.

My daughter is an experienced rider and she enjoyed it. I was simply along for the ride. We had to change our day and time due to an injury, but were so accommodating and changed everything for us. No fuss about the change. You don't see service like that anymore. The trail is along a path and you get as far as your time allows. We didn't get too far because we had some slow riders. I would highly recommend the for beginners. If you have a larger group you'll have better luck at setting the pace and get farther along the path. It's not the guides fault if folks are slow. Keep that in mind when going. Be on time as this activity starts at the parking lot of the head of a trail. We enjoys the horses and the guides.
