Tiny, shabby, overpriced rip off We made the mistake of booking this hotel for an anniversary weekend. It is not a luxury boutique hotel. Here's what you need to know so you won't be disappointed like we were. We stayed in a "Queen, East Wing, Stair Access" room. "Queen, East Wing (stair access)" Room - this is the smallest hotel room we have ever seen. The room is a measly 178 square feet. It is described as "intimate" but a better adjective would be "miniscule". The room has a queen bed, two night tables, a tiny 12"x18" console table, a mini fridge, a useless and gross boucle covered arm chair and useless foot stool. It is jammed with furniture, and there is no room to put anything, let alone move. Dorm rooms are designed with better functionality than this room. The real horror was the bathroom though. The bathroom was tiny. It contained a mini sink (about the size of a small roasting pan), a toilet, and a shower. There are no counters for your toothbrush or toiletries or makeup, and the lighting is horrible. There is no exhaust fan, so the room smelled like a poop sauna in the morning, and of wet towels in the afternoon. The housekeepers apparently don't make up the rooms on the third floor (laughingly called 2nd floor with stairs), so our bathroom was constantly wet and smelled bad. But the worst feature of the bathroom was the lack of space. There is approximately 20 inches between the toilet and the sink. We are small, slim people at 5'5" and 5'7" and we felt claustrophobic in the bathroom and had to contort to use the toilet. We can't image how anyone over 5'9" is going to fit in the bathroom. The bathroom fixtures were ancient, the paint sloppy, and the corners grubby. The last bathroom reno was clearly in the 1950's. And to top it all off, our room was decorated with...nothing. No pictures, no art, nothing. Just plain ugly grey walls. Once again, I've seen nicer school dormitories. Here's a few comments from information posted on the hotels website. "Divine beds to sink into" - the bed was lumpy, and the yucky boucle covered headboard jiggled. The sheets were not cotton, but sweaty, cheap microfiber. The 'duvet' consisted of a cheap polyester quilt sandwiched between two flat sheets. Such a mess. "Black out drapes to help you doze off" - black out drapes didn't actually black out the light "Luxury bath amenities by Ortigia" - smelled like bad old man cologne. We couldn't wait to get home and wash that stink off with a bar of white soap. "Daily housekeeping" - we left our room at 10 am and when we got back at 5 am, the room still had not been made up. We had to call for clean towels, and clean the room ourselves. At over $300 per night, housekeeping and clean towels should be included, don't you think. The water at the hotel is softened and undrinkable, so the hotel will SELL YOU drinkable water. Classy. Note - it was our anniversary. My husband made arrangements with the hotel for "something special". "Something special" never happened, even when my husband followed up with the desk. Maybe our room not getting made up was the "something special". Who would this hotel be perfect for? Single travellers who are hobbit-sized and like small rooms with smelly bathrooms, bad service, and high rates. Save yourself the money, get a nicely appointed room at the Best Western (or literally any other hotel in Stratford) where you get a roomy bathroom with a nice counter, a bathroom fan, a comfy bed and great service. read more

Loved our stay at the Windsor Hotel. We stayed here for the weekend (2 nights) to see Chicago and to enjoy the town of Stratford. The lobby of the hotel is simple but clean and gets the job done. I would like to highlight that the staff members we encountered here were unbelievably kind, attentive and thoughtful. It is truly difficult to find customer service of such high standard anymore. Our room had two double beds as we were a party of 4. The room again was simple, but had a real character and vintage quality to it. The beds were comfy and the room was very bright and airy. Beautiful heritage wood floors. The bathroom was clean and the shower was nice (had good pressure). Some of the light fixtures were faulty but it was easy to overlook. Being at the heart of the city and the historical feel of the Windsor made for a wonderful stay and we will be here again. If you are looking for a Marriot-esque uber sterile and clean hotel with zero character, stay at the best western down the street. read more

What a joke The blonde bimbo came to our room .. lifted up the mattress with us.. and saw Empty spots.. meaning the mattress was sitting on just slats .. like 2 ... when there should be 20... She then sat on the bed .. saw there was a hole.... Ok so ur thinking .. shes gonna do the right thing.. wrong ... the "space cadet" and the lady at front desk blew us away when she said.... No no refund.. no discount.. she said .. the bed was NOT broken... u lozers .. thieves... be so ashamed of urself... zzzz... when u look in the mirror know that u all are despicable Zero rating for u thieves.. so many better places to stay at.. dam even a outhouse Damm lozers oh and lets not forget the blood stains on the bed sheets .. dirty pigs.. dont run a business.. without dignity read more

Paid about $300 a night. This was for their "second" location, known as the Wellington Inn. I've stayed in $80 a night motels that were better. One reviewer called it a "university dorm", but I never had a dorm room this bad. Steep, steep, unlit stairs to the room. Cheap, chipped and scarred furniture. Stains all over the carpet. And a special treat - the bathroom door didn't even close. No parking nearby, but for $20 a night they will let you park at their other hotel three blocks away. For the same price and less, you can get far, far, far better places in Stratford. in fact, I am not sure you can get a worse one. And I see I am not the only one giving it a one-star. We were pleased with our stay. Staff at check in were polite and helpful. The bed was fine, cool old room. The hotel is an older building, well located in downtown Stratford, very close to restaurants and shopping. The best feature is the old staircase (there is an elevator). The hotel needs a bit of encouragement I think, it could be awesome. It just needs more atmosphere, and theatrical flair. It is not luxury, but for the price we were satified. read more

Last August 2022, I arranged for a stay at the Windsor Hotel for our 25th anniversary. We were driving to Stratford from Amherstburg, ON, which is a fair trek, and received a call from the reception desk stating that there was no hot water available in the hotel, due to a plumbing issue; we were asked if we would like to get an updated suite (at no charge) at their other location 'The Wellington'. We had tickets to see a play, and I had already paid online, so we agreed. When we arrived, we couldn't find the building. As it turned out, there was no building or concierge on site, not even a proper sign, just a bunch of rooms above a business. We called the number provided, but they could not let us in the room. I called the Windsor Hotel and asked for a refund, because we did not find the situation suitable. The manager agreed, since none of this was our fault. We had to quickly find other accommodations elsewhere. I followed up with over 20 phone calls and emails to The Windsor Hotel, throughout the summer and into the fall, and was assured that I would receive a partial refund of $100. Although I felt this was unfair, I agreed to it, since we were past the cancellation date. We never received the refund! The Windsor Hotel did not provide the service that we paid for, and then ripped us off. It was obvious that they were prepared to wait us out, figuring that I'd just get tired of fighting for my refund. It was so upsetting to me that that they would behave so reprehensibly, when they were the ones who did not provide the service. And now our lovely Anniversary feels tainted by that experience. The front desk was so great! Heather helped us out a bunch, she was kind, relatable and honest. I would 100% stay here again just because the staff was so great. The location of the hotel is fantastic, you can walk to all the theaters, shops and restaurants in town. While the hotel is old, it carries a charm with it. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking to stay somewhere with a friendly staff and somewhere that is close to everything in the town. We ended up staying an extra night because we enjoyed Stratford so much! read more

First off, the location was perfect and the staff friendly and informative. The lobby was lovely but the only place you could pick up their free wifi with any reasonable consistency. That I could live with. I was there to enjoy the shows not play on my smart phone. The low rating is due to the state of the room. For the price we certainly weren't expecting luxury but we did expect clean. There was dust all over the coffee maker (which the inside hadn't been properly cleaned out in ages), all over the top of the TV and the lamp shade was caked with it in spots. The bathroom was hygiencally questionable. The sink was in decent shape though it barely drained. The inside of the toilet had horrible rust stains which shouldn't be an issue if it's being cleaned daily and properly. The shower/tub was old, full of rust and calcium stains, it needed new caulking and grout. The grout that was there was grimy and mildewy and there were stains everywhere. Again, things that shouldn't be if it's being cleaned properly and daily. Last, the comforter was covered in stains as well. I'm guessing taking a black light to it would have revealed so much more. All this being said, we will not stay there again, nor will we recommend anyone stay there. Sorry folks. Find a cleaning staff willing to do their job thoroughly and with a little elbow grease and you'd be set. read more

We stayed here for the Civic holiday weekend and got engaged. We love the character and style of the building inside and out. We were in a renovated room the first night and moved to to another room because I screwed up our dates. The new owner was very accommodating to get us the room. The front staff were polite and gave prompt service. They give you keys to the entrance of the building which is nice so you feel safe and the building is quiet and we took the stairs most of the time, rooms have a keycode and a fridge. It has just want you need. We were in and out often for walks and food, everything is very close by, we did not move our car until we left. The linens and towels are very clean, the rooms have different decor and feel. In one room we had to get the temperature controls right in the shower, but those things don't bother us. We went to the Red Lion (attached restaurant/bar) at night after dinner for a drink and it had a cool vibe, one bar tender was v e r y slow for whatever reason. The new owner seems to be slowly turning the place around and his sincerity for his guest to have a comfortable stay is appreciated. Things take time and we are excited for his venture. We will definitely stay here again. read more

While the front desk staff were very friendly and the location of this hotel convenient, there is nothing else positive that I can add. I certainly expected more for $200 plus dollars a night we paid. The room was not clean, the shower head kept falling off, tiles were missing from the bathroom floor and the mattresses were very lumpy. Because the headboard connecting to two double beds was not secured to the wall (it leant at an angle from the floorboards towards the bed) the headboard banged against our heads every time one of us moved. Since there wasnt a coffee pot in the room, the hotel offered coffee in the lobby but we only saw a filled pot of coffee once over the course of 4 days. Guests lucky enough to get some coffee had the pleasure of walking around piles of bags filled with dirty laundry. When we made our reservations we were told that there was an attached restaurant but when we arrived we discovered that the restaurant had been shut down. read more

If you're looking for value, you won't find any at the Albert St Inn. The Albert Street Inn reminds me of a low-budget hostel, priced like a hotel. (Rates listed on the website, parking extra). Walking through the hallways you may notice some big paint chips off the walls (it's obviously not maintained well), and the rooms are tiny. Main suggestion: Ask to see the room before you decide to pay. Doing so will enable you to make an informed decision (especially since the photos on the website are deceiving). Fortunately I did not end up spending the night here after revealing the lack of value. (The only reason it even gets 1 star). read more

The staff were rude & unprofessional. The rooms smell very musty, and the 'Free WiFi' is only available in the lobby. Great location, but there are many other hotels in the neighbourhood with comparable rates, but much more modern, clean rooms with better amenities. read more

We have stayed here for the past three season of the Stratford Festival. We were happy to see that they had renovated and installed an elevator. However, this year was a disappointment. The young woman at the desk was very rude and informed us that our parking spot (you can reserve a spot if you book through their website) had been giving away even though we reserved it back in February. Street parking was not a problem and we saved ourselves the $9.00 parking charge but that is not really the point. The room was clean but the bed was very uncomfortable and the air conditioner was extremely loud (it was as though someone dropped coins inside the fan) and did not do much to cool the room down. Not sure if we will come back, I would rather pay a little more for superior service. Considering we are loyal repeat customers, we were treated quite shabbily and when I sent a polite email directly to the innkeeper to express my concerns I received no reply. That being said, the location is great but I feel that they charge too much in the peak season considering the level of service offered. I was happy to pay the first few years we stayed here as the staff was helpful and pleasant, this year not so much with the exception of the girl who worked the desk in the afternoon/evening. Horrible, horrible, horrible. If I could possibly give no stars, I would. I think it is incredulous that the proprietor feels it is appropriate to charge $185 (plus $9 parking) for a dilapidated, DIRTY room that they had the audacity to call a 'suite'. The cushioned chair had knife tears in the arm with foam coming out of it and scotch tape on the underside. It was obviously picked up from the side of the road and plopped into this gem of a 'suite'. like a previous reviewer, I also reserved parking and was told there was none upon arrival. Did not take a shower as it did not seem hygienically safe to do so. This establishment needs to be put out of business. Hope this review gets lots of reads read more
