Sycamore Commons always feels like one of those places that looks perfectly manageable from the…read moreroad, and then the moment you turn in you realize you've entered a different ecosystem entirely. I was here on a Saturday morning for Costco, which in hindsight was a tactical error because on a sunny weekend this parking lot turns into pure chaos. It was the kind of morning where every lane felt like a slow‑motion near miss, and I'm honestly surprised I didn't hear at least one honk or the unmistakable crunch of someone misjudging a turn. The layout doesn't do drivers any favors. The whole plaza sits on uneven grading, so you're constantly moving between slightly higher and lower sections, and the internal lanes twist and narrow in ways that probably help keep speeds down but also make it harder to get your bearings. Finding an exit becomes its own little quest, especially when you're trying to thread your way around people circling for spots or pausing mid‑lane to decide whether they're committing to a turn. It's a classic big‑box cluster, with plenty of major anchors pulling in heavy traffic, and thankfully there are directional signs scattered around to point you toward the right corner of the property. Even so, the combination of volume, terrain, and design means you have to stay alert the entire time you're here. Once you're actually inside the stores it's fine, but navigating the exterior feels like the price of admission, and on a bright Saturday morning that price is definitely higher than you'd expect. I never thought a neighborhood shopping center would warrant a review, but I have to say Arboretum…read moremanaged to pull one out of me. The amount of food choices is ridiculously good... from nicer restaurants (Mickey & Mooch, New South) to mom & pop shops (Akropolis Cafe, Charlotte Cafe, Sushiya Japanese etc) to chain (Qudoba, Nothing but Noodles, McAllister etc) to fastfood (McD, Chick-Fila, Taco Bell) to dessert (Ben & Jerry, Pinkberry), there gotta be something that will feed your belly within your budget. I stopped by yesterday at 2pm to get a late lunch (teriyake chicken plate at Sushiya for $5), came back at 5pm for an early dinner (gyro at Akropolis for $5.25), and back again at 8pm to satisfy my frozen yogurt craving ($3 at Pinkberry). And on top of that, I stopped by Walmart to get ingredients for mimosa. Where else can I stop by 3 times in 6 hours for all these different things in one location?! Bravo Arboretum, bravo... (and yes, beware of crazy driving and gazillion stop signs that no one follows)

As developers are more geared towards the "outside mall" theme for convenience, these modern day amalgamations of mall and strip mall have seemed to be the flavor of the day. Moreover, the ease of getting in and out of the area is easy considering the two main streets it resides on within a stones throw from the highway. Obviously the anchor store or interest point is Stone Theatres Sun Valley Cinema. This facility is clean and most of the auditoriums have very up to date audio and video equipment. The movie theatre is immediately flanked by restaurants on the right and left, catering to those families that may want to grab a bite to eat after the flix. As for the kids, there's a frozen yogurt shop and moving further out, a "lego" type of store and a pet groomer. There are more restaurants of a few different cuisines as well as a tabacco shop, hotworx, bridal ware, nails, you name it. Further out, a CVS is there, more nails and restaurants including live music at a few places, fast food, spa, salon and so on. SunValley has a lot of what most families need in a very small area. So if you're with the kids or a couple looking for some fun on a Friday night, chances are this area has you covered. Drop by and stay for a while!

More than just a shopping center, it's a place for shopping and eating and entertainment. I'd guess that just about anything you need is here, short of a car dealership. The 14 screen movie theater is at the apex of the shopping center, surrounded by casual and fast dining restaurants. Two coffee shops, beauty shop, pharmacy and two separate auto repair outlets are here. Urgent care, wedding wear and even a funeral home. Yep, everything. Easy access from both sides with a very large parking lot that is designed to keep folks from going way too fast. And there's still room for more development.
