Two of my friends and me joined 2.5H wind surfing lesson through Groupon. There are some people who joined our lesson. 6 students and 2 instructors. First we needed to check in in the office which is located at ground floor on 2 stories white building. Sign up waiver, pay tax $4 and then head to rental desk. Before we change the clothing, the instructors teach us basic method about how to sail on the sand. Lots of things to learn but very enjoyable. After real sailing lesson started, I learned the beach we were practicing was public and there were lots of small boats and kids. I'm not sure because it was Sunday but quite busy spot. To avoid hitting anyone and anything and walk by in the water was a little stress. I hope weekday lesson would be more smooth. The lesson was fun and hard. Even you struggled in the water, the instructors will come to help you on the paddle boat. Which was very helpful. I guess total 2.5H lesson was decent too. read more

The perfect introduction to the friendly "on the water" community at Jericho. I headed out afterwork to try stand up paddle surfing. ($17/hour) There's basically no red tape, and you can just grab a board and head right out on the water to try it. The staff are really friendly, so be sure to ask them for tips and advice. (Especially if you're a bit more experienced--they can recommend other places around the coast to try out). The surfing itself is phenomenal. I enjoyed a decent workout while taking in the sunset up to the point at Spanish Banks. I didn't try it out, but I hear the Galley at the Sailing Club is a perfect post water meal. Oh, and they rent kayaks and wind surfing equipment if that's more your thing. read more

Windsure is the go to place for renting stand up paddleboards. Jericho Beach is the perfect location too. We love being able to rent SUPs and get out on the water whenever we travel to Vancouver. It's not cheap but we like going on Monday-Wed, where they have a special where you get an extra hour at no charge if you rent for 1h. Don't worry about the old comments about unhelpful staff - we've never encountered anyone who wasn't helpful in our last couple years there. read more

My partner and I got a social shopper deal for a 2 hour windsurfing lesson with a group. The windsurfing itself was fine, the equipment and rental wet suits are in perfect condition. My bf took to windsurfing like a fish to water .. I did not. I doubt I will be trying it again, but that's not why I rated this place so low. 1. When we first entered the reception in the main sailing house, we asked the gentlemen in the entrance if this was the place for lessons. And very rudely and abruptly got a "Yes" where he proceeded to ignore us and just walked rudely by us. Later we find out this is the owner. 2. Once we signed our waivers and walked over to the rental hut we were barely greeted by a 16 year old who seemed not bothered to speak to us. 3. She handed our wet suits and said go change in the change rooms around the corner. It would have been nice to be told which way the suit should go. Between the 4 of us we all managed to put our suits on either inside out or backwards as we had NO IDEA! Little annoyed by this. Especially when you just put your suit on, walk proudly up to the counter to get your life jacket, and all you get from the staff is "uh, you can't wear your suit like that. RENTAL is not a brand," which is written across the wetsuit. Apparently it was inside out ... Had to change. 4. Finally lesson starts. We have two instructors. Both no older than 17 years old. The one guy was very knowledgeable but did not seem interested in really teaching us. After a very short run through, and how it works we are out on the water. I have not absorbed the knowledge; which is down wind and up wind or my 6 or noon ... ah! 5. One instructor left half way through the land training as the remaining 9 people that were half an hour late for the group lesson showed up. So they started the lesson over for them. 6. When we were on the water, we had one instructor on a paddle board giving us instructions. He gave attention to people that picked it up quickly it seemed. Those who were struggling did not get the instruction they badly needed. I struggled completely and could not get the hang of it. At that point I had enough as I was not understanding or enjoying myself. All in all. Instruction was poor, experience was poor, customer service sucked. We want to try paddle boarding next and would also like to try windsurfing again but somewhere else. read more

Go here with the groupon! My friends and I bought the Groupon for the windsurfing class and enjoyed ever bit of it. The instructor was relatively new, but he was very knowledgeable and patient with my group. This was all of our first time trying it out. Be prepared to get soaked if your balance isn't so great. It took me the longest time to try to stay on the board, but after a few tries, you get the hang of it. I would hands down do this again! read more

I used a Groupon for a 1-hour group lesson for Stand Up Paddle Boarding. The check-in process was smooth and easy, and the staff member was kind enough to ask whether I needed to change and offered me a pass for the washroom (as there are no washrooms where we meet for lessons, just at the building where you check-in). Niko was our instructor, and he was really nice. He was thorough in his demonstrations both on land and in the water. He was so encouraging and overall had a really nice and positive attitude. We paddled together as a group, but if one of us ended up drifting away, he took the time to paddle over and help the person out. If anything, I wish there were proper lockers for our belongings. Staff can take your valuables like wallet, keys, etc. to keep safe behind the counter, but anything else goes in a communal cupboard (so try to bring as little as possible with you). But overall it was really fun. Paddling while standing can be a challenge, so if you don't have the best balance, I recommend doing some balance exercises for practice a few days prior (that's what I did and I didn't fall in the water once). The class was very simple, yet good enough for someone doing it for the first time. The equipment was fairly good, the instructor gave us all basic info...We had a great time. The bonus was seeing sea lions swimming close to us. Well worth the experience. read more

I was part of a group of 3 who got the Groupon deal for paddle boarding group lesson. On the day of the class, a friend and I were driving but couldn't make it on time because of very heavy traffic. Our other friend who arrived early talked to the customer service rep to explain the situation. After a call with their boss, she was able to reschedule us to a later time and it was a private lesson to boot! I really appreciated how accommodating they were, especially considering our original lesson time was already the last of the day. The paddle boarding lesson itself was fun :) Our instructor gave us clear instructions & demos before we entered the water with our board. Came here through a Groupon. The paddleboarding itself was alright: a bit difficult when windy and sunny, and tricky to stand, but fairly manageable. Going far is quite hard as well as the waves make coming back more strenuous. I echo the other reviewers in the the service is terrible: there was a lot of miscommunication as to the taxed amount, who had to sign a waiver, that they only had a tiny cubby-hole for valuables, etc. I understand it's a small business employing students, but I expect at least that everyone is given the same training and instruction, and to help their customers carry the heavy boards up to the beach. Seriously?! What company requires paying customers to carry the equipment when finished with the lesson? Our group was given 2 min of instruction that ended with "there's basically not much to it, it's really simple" when another instructor was actively giving tips to passerby's on the waters. Would not come again even with a Groupon. read more

A group of 5 friends and I booked a "group lesson" in beginners' SUP. This group lesson (at $42 per person for 1 hour) turned out to not be a group lesson exclusive to our group, but us 6 friends, plus 6 other strangers with two instructors. Customer service here was patchy (2 of the 5 members of staff I encountered were switched-on and ready to help, the rest seemed irritated by our existence). The lesson was also patchy in terms of instruction. Before we hit the water there was a little guidance/advice, but very little help from that point on. Maybe this was because of the ratio of students to teachers, but it wasn't what we were expecting, especially at that price. It felt like we were on our own on the water, and only one member of our group said they would be prepared to go back. read more

A few of us bought a Groupon for windsurfing lessons and we were pretty excited to try it. We arrived 15 minutes early and went to the office, where we asked if this was where we check. The lady in the office rudely told us to go to the shack past all the sailboats. When we got there, we waited over half an hour to be attended to only to be told to sign in with the office (where we just were). By the time we got there we were told that we were 40 minutes late for the class and would have to reschedule. We decided to not waste our whole day and just decided to rent some paddleboards in exchange. On top of that our items were locked in a drawer that got broken as they were opening it and we had to wait another extra 20 minutes. I would not recommend this place as it is not worth dealing with employees with terrible attitudes and who don't seem to want to guide customers. read more

I had scheduled a one hour SUP lesson, and I called to reschedule because I'm experiencing symptoms of positional vertigo at the moment, which would probably be quite dangerous for balancing on board in water. The person on the phone was extremely insensitive and inflexible and refused to reschedule me. read more
