This is a fun activity for a group of friends. We have done a couple times and it's always well worth our time and money. I highly recommend paint your pet class. They offer it monthly and the canvas has the picture of your pet printed on the canvas in monochrome gray. They show you step by step how to paint your individualized picture of your favorite fur baby. The class sells out quick, so sign up early. You can do everything on the website and send in the picture of your pet, while they do the rest. I was pleasantly surprised that my painting turned out well and looked just like my dog. I've taken a few other classes here and they all turned out great and was lots of fun. Will do again. The calendar on their website shows a month preview of all the paintings planned for that month. I'm not sure where I found this place originally but in February, my daughter Livia and I went to a "mommy and me" paint together for the first time, and we've been going to them ever since bc we love it so much. I didn't know I was artistic or even liked to paint, but Wine and Design has given me a whole new hobby and love for painting. I love going, it's relaxing, it's just an all around wonderful time! I have been to 2 of these types of paint and drink places in the past, both in Austin, TX before coming to paint here. I have just moved to the area and thought this would be GREAT for me and my visiting friend to do! The class was great, the wine was great, the group of people we were with were great. Pros: Great positive space, assistants are very helpful and friendly, walls are covered with previous paintings they have had, wine selection was great, they offer groupons, the instructor was pleasant (needed to be more flexible-see cons), Loved the red chalkboard wall that the instructor uses to show steps that might be hard to see them paint on the actual canvas, love that they take a group picture at the end and post it to the facebook page for everyone to see, they provide aprons for everyone, each painting station was well organized with paints, brushes, paper towels and water for each individual-no need to share, employees were offering to take photos of guests after our time was complete if guests had brought cameras, Cons: Instructors: *Instructors need to be more flexible, especially since there were a lot of first timers to painting in general in our group. Our instructor would not slow down when asked on more than one occasion by a few different people saying he was on a time limit. He also would paint and not let the class know what he was doing. So unless you looked up, he had moved on to another step, which I think is why so many people would ask him to slow down.- we were last last class of the night and if the time runs over a few minutes in order to help the guest create a better quality painting instead of rushing to keep up, you should do it. It's all about creating a raving fan of the business. *As the night went on, our instructor would tell us to make a certain color but wouldn't tell us what colors to mix telling us, it's purple, you know what colors make purple.... that's not ok. You are a teacher, and as a teacher it's your job to help your students feel comfortable to create without worries. A lot of guests had to rely on each other for help mixing colors. *The tables needed to be spread out more as if you were sitting near the front you were pretty squished- back to back with the person behind you- Overall/Suggestions/tip: Overall we had a great time and I would totally come back and paint again. We loved the step by step (for the most part) instruction, the cheerful, bright colored room we were in, the support staff, and just the overall experience. I have definitely shared this place with my friends on facebook and just in passing. Suggestion: build a platform for the artist to create on. It will make it easier for everyone to see the painting the instructor is creating, especially the guests in the back, it will be easier to turn the painting for everyone to see, and easier for the instructor to project their directions out among the chatting group of wine drinkers. :) Tip: Look to see if they have a Groupon running before you go. They are totally worth it...2 painters 2 glasses of wine for almost half the cost. read more

Wow, talk about multiple personality. 1st time I spoke with Julie, (I believe that's her name) she was so polite that I was excited about having this for my daughter's bachelorette party. I was told there wasn't a travel fee and she's the one that gave me the price that if I had 10 people it would be $30pp as oppose to $38pp. I specifically asked how soon I would need to return the contract and she said not to worry since she had plenty of artists ready to go. A week and half later, I go to fill out contract and I see there's a $40 travel fee on there, when I called to check on that, her tone was nasty and so rude. She was kind enough to honor the no travel fee but then states how she's all booked for that day. Wow, how disappointing! read more

Wine and Design is a great place to relax and have some fun! We have come to many of the painting sessions. Julie and her staff are always very friendly and accommodating (even through COVID). If you don't drink wine or beer, there are non alcoholic libations as well. The sessions are fun, yet fast paced, so come knowing that there should be minimal distractions...for the respect of the teacher and other guests. I would NOT recommend bringing small children or infants as the venue is an adult art studio. There is no babysitting. Julie does offer painting / crafting sessions for children; however, there is an age limit understandably. What I would recommend:. First time trying the whole wine & sip here in this location and it did not disappoint. We came on a Tuesday which they do $25 Tuesday's which is $10 less than other days during the week. Reservations are easy to make, just reserve online and pick day and time. They do offer morning and afternoon classes so it works out great. We did arrive 15 minutes early so gives you time to check in, get ur drinks and pick ur seating area. Location is small which is ok but not a lot of room if you pick a busy class. You can take food and drinks as long as it's not alcohol which is nice if u don't like the wines they serve. I didn't get to try the wine or beer so can't really judge. Angelica was our instructor. She is great at giving directions but just beware you might fall behind if you don't pay attention. It was fun painting with her since she goes over different ways to make your art yours. There is no mistakes. You are provided everything you need like brushes, paint and apron so you won't get paint on you. At the end they take group picture and upload to their fb page. I paint here at LEAST once a month and have enjoyed it every time. The vibe is always upbeat and fun. It's colorful and all of the instructors are so helpful. I'm not a great painter without their instruction. I highly recommend Wine and Design Santa Maria for a girls night out, they even have date nights! I love the range of painting selections they have through out a month. A favorite is when they have open studio including when it's available in the kids buzz studio so it's open to families. I had a really great time at Wine & Design. The wine that came with our session was excellent. I choose a red but there were other options. Our instructor & assistant were fun. They walked us through the painting process fairy well. I was sitting in an area where the instructor's back was facing toward me so I wasn't always able to see what he was painting. I'm a little bummed they don't offer anything for teenagers. You have to be at least 21 to be in the art studio so my 15 year old & I can't do this as a Mother/Daughter date as I had hoped. They do offer family friendly sessions but so far they've all been directed at small children. I'm hoping they'll offer classes for teens+ in the future. I would love to come back and paint something else. It was very gratifying to go home with a finished work of art. (Even if my tree does look like Ursula from The Little Mermaid!) ;-) read more
