I love a good pedestrian area, and we as consumers are more likely to go in places when we can leisurely stroll. There was a music stage and a small area for performers, and a few areas with kid centered things. I really enjoyed that all the businesses were open at one time. I've been walking through Nulu before and tried to stop in a shop during the middle of the day only to discover its closed. This really welcomed people in but also made some areas a little crowded. Overall I'm looking forward to next year to see how they continue to expand.

I tend to shy away from this sort of thing because they tend to be overwhelming, and having so many vendors makes it hard to leave with a clear impression of any in particular. Also, if you're looking to try a new restaurant, why not just read Yelp reviews? That said, I think Taste of 502 makes a good effort. Events like these can be variable, even from year to year. Will it be crowded? Is the price point reasonable? And will I even get enough to eat? Our experience this year was that it's a lot of fun. We were already familiar with most of the restaurants and shops, so we weren't just running around in a fog. And there was no danger of going home hungry. Even as the (reasonable-sized) crowds dissipated, most of the vendors still had plenty of food. Lines weren't much of a problem, and you can walk around without clutching your plate near your chest. And true to the local spirit, more than half the room was dedicated to sugar, fat, and alcohol. In short, it was at least as much fun as a standard night on the town would be, and a fine way to have a good time, all in the good name of community spirit. I may or may not return for this event, but I certainly will return to many of the eateries it showcases.

An equal amount of food, drinks and desserts samples were present from what I could see. Wild Rita's had one of the tastiest desserts I tried. Shout out to Rye for their pork samples that were fabulous, and Cake flour for the a-mazing bourbon chocolate fudge brownies. There were pasta dishes, tons of savory treats, appetizers, salads, shrimp kaboobs, cookies, pie, cakes, ice cream, and brownie samples! And of course, a large variety of drink samples from wine to vodka mixes to bourbon. After being stuffed from trying all that food, we stopped to take a picture in the complimentary photo booth. Plenty of seating, easy to socialize, leave and join another table. It was crowded but not uncomfortable and vendors not difficult to access. It was a cool local event and fun getting to try out the treats of different businesses around Louisville. I definitely found 3 or 4 that I'm enthused to go visit. I look forward to attending this event again next year.

However, I won tickets this year through an Instagram contest and had to check it out. First of all, the weather was gorgeous. A friend and I headed downtown after work and parked at the Kentucky Center for the Arts. This made it super easy to leave when we were ready. Getting into the area was a bit of a hassle. There was a person checking IDs. A person to scan your ticket. A person to hand you wine tickets. A person to hand you your glass. And then a person to put your wristband on. Seems that this could be combined somehow. Once inside, there were 16 wineries, multiple food vendors, and several food demonstrations. We made a point not to get the same wines so that we could try each the other. This way - we actually got to try 30 wines. There were plenty of people walking around with cheese and crackers, which was nice to absorb some of the wine. Most wineries were not skimping on the pours and I was definitely glad to have a designated driver. I also loved the photo booth. Such a fun way to end the night! I feel like I've overlooked this event due to being spoiled by Indiana wine festivals. I had such fun that I could absolutely see myself buying tickets to this event in the future!

We got to try a few wineries that were there, some I never even heard of. We stuck with mostly wine slushees. 502 winery in my opinion had the best one. There was also one called Jesters Winery that had good slushees. My favorites were 502 Winery and Brooks Hill Winery. The ones from Brooks Hill was Black and Blue and Lillie's summer wine. There was an abundance of cheese, crackers and other fruit to pair with the wine. My reason for 3 stars was I felt there was not enough selection. Only 16 wineries there. Not sure if I'll be back to the wine festival next year or not. We did have a great time.

These businesses are local and offer products that are right up my alley! Local farms with grass fed beef and options that are better than what we have at those commercial chains. I walked away with 5 different kinds of meat, info on my newest probiotic drink, and lots of vitamin D because it's a perfect day! Yelp was here and with a check in you earn a few reusable grocery bag. This came in great use today! I will keep this bag in my trunk to use when I attend other events like this. This was my first time at this venue and I have to say I love the open are courtyard feel! Looks like a fun place to visit in evenings too! Will be back soon for a tour!

Wow. This was a great local event…read more My fiance and I were wasting time, I mean, spending time together before we had to tend to some wedding planning stuff and we found ourselves at Copper & Kings on a brisk Saturday afternoon. I had never been to Copper & Kings, I only called them once about their venue space and then stared longingly while shopping at Work the metal, so it was a two treats in one! The outside space was filled with booths and vendors, all local and mostly Butchertown based. The Yelp booth was ready to greet visitors handing out much needed gloves and sunglasses in trade for a check-in. You know we did it. There were food trucks and coffee, and ice cream, and beer and soda, and hot sauces & jams, and bacon, and tacos. The list is endless. We tend to 'split' things so we can try more of everything so we went all in. We stopped at Johnny's Diner Car where a friend of ours greeted us with a smile, and pork buns. Can you say OMG?! They were little steam buns packed with pork belly, bacon greens and pork rinds sprinkled on top... my mouth is watering thinking about them. We also got some truffle Parmesan fries which were fantastic as well. Our venturing then took us to the top part of the event where we met several locally owned establishments that were greeting us with samples and pamphlets. We couldn't try everything, but that didn't stop us from trying. We had two handmade sodas, a taco from Decca and we left with 2 scoops of icecream from Louisville Cream #savages, ha. Needless to say the event was fun and filling for a nice Saturday afternoon. We ended up walking off our splurges as we found ourselves at the Flea off Market for a pit stop and walk. But we will be back as long as Butchertown businesses are going, we will be there to support them. You should too!

It is amazing how much detail and work they put into making it feel like you've time-traveled back a century. Everyone's dressed up, there are vendors and shows of all sorts... There is just so. much to do. I really love how every weekend there is a different theme. I believe the day we went it was Christmas in July. If you go towards the beginning or end of the season, there is a big opening and closing ceremony with the king and queen. Turkey legs? Check. Have a glass of mead? Check. Watch some jousting? Check! It was honestly impossible to do everything we wanted to do in one day. This will easily become an annual summer event for us. It is a great nerdy escape that you cannot find anywhere else in Kentucky!

Band was excellent as always. It truly does look like an Enchanted Forest, with lots of trees, natural (stone seating) with a magical atmosphere. We had already eaten prior to our arrival and aren't big drinkers but they had water stations set up which was really handy. Spinellis Pizza is located in the front of the outdoor area so that is the food option. Full bar offerings located in several spots around the inside and outside areas. Street parking and a huge, free city located a block to the east. Highly recommend if only for the atmosphere.

My husband had the bison burger, and I had the Caesar salad with salmon and we were very satisfied. But the best part of the night was watching excellent live theater in the Enchanted Forest. Another great experience at the Kentucky State Fair!…read more Going to the fair isn't the cheapest, but you're guaranteed to see some funny, awesome, one-of-a-kind things. This includes: * The cow costume contest! I know I wrote about this in my past review, but this seems to be an overlooked aspect of the fair. Cows and their kid handlers dress up in coordinating costumes. The creativity, the uncooperative cows and inopportune moos, the announcer just trying to keep up with it all -- it is a sight! * All of the livestock and animals you can get up and close with. These folks really take pride in their animals. Love to see it! * The great arts, crafts and other odd bits entered to win ribbons. I love it with people go big on their niche interests, and this is the Super Bowl (or at least the state version) for this. * The food! Every year something more and more adventurous and out there gets introduced. I didn't get to do as much epicurious exploring, but you know it's all there. * The rides. My kids are getting old enough to look forward to this. While this is sure to make an expensive experience even more so, I know we'll be spending more time here in years to come. There was construction around the fairgrounds this year, which made getting to where we needed to go a bit difficult, but I'm excited to see what the expo center expansion means for the fair in years to come. The state fair is its own thing, and I'm here for it.

St Rita Summer Picnic is a yearly Catholic Church picnic that traditional runs the 3rd Thursday,…read moreFriday and Saturday of July with Thursdays being a ride night only and Friday and Saturday featuring the whole picnic. As an actual parishioner of this church I've attended this picnic since a young child and been to over 30 picnics and I've actually worked/volunteered at the picnic since my 7th grade year and for over 25 years. As mentioned Thursday is strictly a ride night. In the past they have had carnival rides but recently they have switched over to inflatables. They usually charge $15 an armband and you have unlimited usage on the inflatables. They offer the this same package during the picnic on Friday and Saturday nights. The picnic itself consist of place a dime on a number and spin a wheel type games for prizes from booths such as cake, plants, fruit, and toys. They also have booths and games aimed for younger kids such as duck pond, 4 in a row, sand art and even have a used book sale located inside the church. The picnic also features a beer garden out on the baseball field that offers beer tickets (usually $4 a ticket) gambling options like showdown poker, over/under dice game, big 6 and pull Tabs. Food wise they usually have a few carnival style food trucks that offer pizza, pretzels and nachos. They also have a sandwich booth worked by volunteers that sells fish sandwiches, brawts, hotdogs and French fries. Their is a super popular Mexican street corn/elote booth and a taco and fajita booth that is really tasty. To add even more to the great food options the picnic on Saturday only from 4pm-730pm have a chicken dinner inside the gym. This is extremely popular and usually on Saturday at 4pm the ticket line is wrapped around the whole Picnic. Tickets are $13 adult and $10 and you get two big pieces chicken, with unlimited sides featuring noodles, cole slaw, cucumber salad, green beans and tomatoes. It also features unlimited refills of tea, water or lemonade and a ticket for an ice cream. The dinner is worked by the parish members kids and they always work real hard and take care of the customers. The reason the line is so long is they chicken and sides are great. Very filling and tasty meal. Overall a very fun and busy picnic. Friday nights are the more mild nights as Saturday's can get jam packed crowded. Very popular picnic in the area and many refer to it as an okolona (community it is located in) reunion. I'm a bit biased being a long time visitor and worker but me and several others have made very fun and life long memories over this 2-3 day picnic.

I…read moregrew up in this area and I've been to this picnic mini mini years many times I've had a lot of memories and ever since I've had children it's been more difficult to get out to the picnic because I don't really have babysitters and things I have taken them to ride night and they enjoy that but the days in my teens and 20s of going here and just having a blast with all my buddies are long gone but the memories are still there.
