I guess an employee saw my arms getting full and decided he'd help out. He came by with a bag and helped me unload the goods. I was looking for a survival pack from Muskoka Brewery but noticed they were all sold out. The same dude went into the back room and found me another survival pack with a summer ale instead of the winterweiss. He said they cannot display the summer stuff anymore because of the season change. Instead of letting this beer go to waste in the back, I took the case and grabbed a tally of the winterweiss and checked out. I sauntered out of there like a kid in a candy shop, happy as can be! The store is clean and organized and hosts some great employees.

From a larger perspective, Beer stores in general have become less useful, unless you're into picking up larger cases of beer (which I'm usually not). For my liking, in that I often buy only a dozen or so at a time, and often like to pick up a bunch of mixed singles, there are better stores than this one. As it pertains to this particular store, I've found that they have less selection than most other stores, and I also tend to find them less organized (not only are their shelves of mixed singles often messy, the store itself has things all over the place). They also seem to be terminally low on stock of some of the singles. Last time I couldn't find any of the buck a beer options. Not sure if they carry them at this store, but hard to tell. The people that work here are nice, and tend to be as efficient as in most other stores. This is the closest beer store to my house, but I'll often go a little out of my way to go to a different store, or go to the LCBO, who have a far better selection of singles beers.

Located in a not so glamorous…read moreplaza at the corner of Port Union rd and Lawrence Ave, this little LCBO still manages to keep me pretty happy. The staff are friendly and the small store (maybe 1,200 sf) carries lovable variety of old and new world wines with a quaint vintage section. But what I love the most about this particular LCBO is that they are constantly introducing new wines from different vineyards. This way, it saves me a trip and an aggravating 45 min stroll through a 10,000 sf store only to find the same wines stocked in bigger LCBO stores. Oh and if your hands are full, they'll even carry out your case of wine to your car. Now, that's a service you can be happy about. :)

Every time I am there, I look over to my left and see the Beer Store buzzing (no pun intended) with customers walking in. On Saturday, I decided to see what I was missing and joined in. I don't hit LCBO or Beer Store often. When I do consume booze, I am often out with friends and rarely need to bring anything but myself. I liked that the new beer releases automatically stare at you when you walk in. It's like walking into a Best Buy and seeing the new DVDs out for the week. The selection was impressive. I walked into the main cooler section. There were a ton of single beers. I like that I could pick a few beers out and see how I feel. I don't have to commit to at least a six-pack. There was a decent L-shape aisle of beers to choose from, which constitutes a decent full aisle of selection. Naturally, I walked the whole store. I loved the Shandy Carib and Red Stripe beers, which made me feel all ready for spring and summer. Take me away from this winter! It's cheaper than booking a trip to the Caribbean by letting the alcohol kick in. I saw my dad's old favourite, Carlsberg. I can't drink it. As a kid, I once sniffed an empty bottle of it. Bad memories. I got a can of Kawartha Lakes raspberry wheat beer and a can of Waterloo grapefruit radler. I like fruity notes in beer when I am not drinking my usual, Stella Artois. I went to pay for my items. The guy helping me check out looked at my selections and said that Waterloo has a new raspberry radler. Cool! I wanted to give Kawartha Lakes a try and see if I like that raspberry. I appreciated his astute recommendation and will give it a try next time. He asked whether I needed a bag. I declined, as it was only two cans. I walked with them to my car and put them in my cooler bag. After being out and about for a few hours, I was impressed that my beer was still chilled. I cracked open the Kawartha Lakes raspberry wheat beer. It's pretty good. You can taste the raspberry. It's subtle, but it makes the beer notes stand out. I'm glad that I got it. I haven't tried the Waterloo grapefruit radler. I tend to enjoy radlers, so I expect that I will like it. There is plenty of parking in front of the store, even with the piles of snow melting away. This LCO in the Beaches used to be great, but a recent renovation has ruined it. What used to be a…read moreconvenient Vintages section in the back is now a beer store. The new Vintages section is meaningless, with cheap plonk mixed in with expensive bottles. The national sections are larger but the wines are stacked up to the ceiling and very tightly packed together. I am 5'5" and was afraid the bottles would come crashing down when I stood on tippy-toe while trying to reach the one I wanted. As it happened I grasped a similar-looking bottle and came home with a Pinot Grigio instead of an Orvieto Classico. I sincerely wish the LCBO would go back to large cabinet-style compartments for each bottle of wine instead of putting my safety in danger. Not everyone is six feet tall! I cannot comment on the new beer store as I never buy beer. On the plus side, the staff are friendly and there is ample parking but it is time for me to find another go-to for wine.

There's parking (not that I need it for my bike). It's conveniently located right on Queen, near a streetcar stop. But most importantly, it has the best selection of beer I've seen outside of the Summerhill LCBO. A large craft/micro section with many seasonals and rare brews you can't find at every LCBO. I went in two days in a row and found amazing things both days. Definitely the place to go in the area if you're a beer nerd like me.

Medium body on the tongue and crisp & fresh sensation on the throat. They have good quality cocktails as well. I had Margarita and Caesar today. Their cocktails are well balanced. Each element harmonizes, and no single flavor dominates the others. Most importantly, good booze kicks! We had Jalapeño popper dip $12 for snack. Perfectly modest and perfectly enough to bring out the best flavors of their beers.

The wine we made was a 6-week Malbec. We chose it, even though it cost slightly more, because the owner (I assume) Russ was super nice and let us try a few samples and we liked that one the best. He was really fair about letting us try things in the entire price range and was never pushy about up-selling us on the more expensive stuff, we chose it entirely on our own. I think it tastes as good as most wines in the $10-$15 range at LCBO, which is what I usually drink. We also have picked up DIY 2L beer kits ($6) from here in the past, which I also highly recommend. So simple, just drop a vial of yeast into the bottle, leave it on your kitchen counter, and in 7-10 days, BEER! We already have our next batch of wine picked out so I can't wait to go get it made.

Employees are friendly, but can come off as lazy. A couple of times they've told customers ahead of me that they're "out of change". Well, there's two of you, and there's a bank 150 feet away. Go get some!! A few times I've had to call out a "Hello?!?" to get someone to come out from the back room to check me out. I don't like being in a liquor store alone - the plaza is a little shifty - any weirdo could walk in.
