I too had a great experience renewing my CA drivers license with the new Real ID. I uploaded everything online beforehand. When I arrived at 8:45am, there was already a long line snaking down Sherman Way! Fortunately, there really IS a separate line that you can join if you've already uploaded your details online. There were only 2-3 people in front of me in line so I was in and out in under an hour. The security guard outside were very good at organising people, advising, answering questions, directing human traffic and ensuring everyone wears a mask. The staff processing the paperwork and taking pictures were very friendly, polite and efficient. Overall, a very pleasant experience. read more

I am so pleased and shocked that I feel I must post this. I had an appointment. Parking was convenient, I was in and out of the DMV in....TEN minutes! The lady I dealt with (wish I had gotten her name (she was in kiosk 13 around 11AM) was pleasant and professional and completely took care of what I needed. I was truly just dumbfounded. What a ridiculous place. After waiting and waiting... And waiting... I finally receive my new ID, and my name is incorrect. I can't believe the incompetence, and I am so sad that this place exists. The 2 people who helped me was incredibly nice, and I appreciate that. But this is inexcusable. I can't believe that I'm going to have to go through another process to get something that is rightfully mine and should have been done correctly the first time. They make us jump through hoops, play by their rules, and then this. To top it all off, of course I can't get anyone on the phone, and "Miles," their online assistant, doesn't understand sentences and didn't provide the option for me to correct the information on my drivers license. The paper that came with my drivers license says that if any of the information on the card is incorrect, contact them by phone or go online to make an appointment. I can't do either of those things, because when I go to the website to make an appointment, there is no option for correcting information on an ID. And I know how this place works... If I were to make an appointment saying that I would be there for something else, that wouldn't fly with them. Since I can't get through to anyone, I would very much appreciate A response from the DMV to this post, so that we can make this right. read more

If I could give 0 star I would, I came to this place 4 weeks ago to get a real state id and it still hasn't came in the mail yet so I called to see what was going on and they said they made an error and it hasn't processed yet. It's ridiculous because if I haven't called I would've not known the situation AT ALL. Now they said they will call me if anything "goes well" if not I have to go there AGAIN. Never received my ID in the mail. Out of my control and not my fault yet they still charged me a duplicate fee to receive another one. Blaming me for losing something that I never had in the first place. They are also not compensating for the time lost on permits even though they were closed for several months. read more

There's a line in the morning but if you come around 2 it's pretty calm. They must treat there staff great because everyone is always smiling . Today 7/29/20 my son and I went to get an extension for his driving permit. Getting there at 7:10am and finish all paper work at 1:30pm. Unbelievable how COVID-19 change everything. many hours but the lady helping us with the paperwork at the end very good and I forgot all the waiting. So inefficient. I passed driving test half year ago, and I haven't received, i wen to there and asked what's going on, because I'm moving to somewhere else, and I need to change my address. The desk people told me I have to be in the line, which waiting time for more than 2 hours. I mean it is not my problem for the delay of the driving license, and the way they talk to me were not welcome at all. I just wonder why it takes so long to receive my license while my friends got theirs in less than a month. The DMV is always so crowded, I guess their inefficient ways can explain it. Just took my drivers license test here last Friday with ease! My test instructor was super calm and kind and eased my nerves. I would totally come back to do the test here! The only reason this isn't a five star review is due to the rudeness we received by the security guard. We had never been to this DMV, so we didn't know which line to go in or what to do. The security guard yelled at us to change lines and when we tried to go in, we yelled at us again that only two people can go in. I understand he's trying to make it all run smoothly, but his attitude was not necessary at all. Just know which line is for appointments and only go with two people max! Also, I recommend going in the mornings so the traffic isn't bad on the streets for the test! read more

What a nightmare. I'd give a -10 review if it were possible for the experience in this hellhole. I wish I never set foot in this place but rather have waited to move to Pasadena and then go to that one instead. I had to anyways for the final piece of the puzzle of getting my license plate after doing a smog check AGAIN even though I had one done in April 2020 when the car was purchased (but according to them it was only valid 90 days after the fact- what bull****). The Pasadena office was WAY more efficient, smaller, cordial and I was in and out in 20 minutes. The Armenian woman manager in the Winnetka office is an insufferable c&$* and didn't bother to help out with my outlandish fees that were incurred over the course of the pandemic. I have asthma and an arrhythmia and so wasn't going in during the midst of it, hell no. My life is more important to me than that but I had to waste 5 hours in this disorganized place anyways trying to register a car I had to purchase right before the pandemic shut down the offices everywhere and when people were not being required to wear masks yet. She even LIED about that to my face saying they were open the whole time. Rubbish! They were serving customers with appointments when they opened and I couldn't get an appointment for a long time thereafter. I didn't even have the opportunity to explain that before she rudely dismissed me after I had asked for a refund. I ended up paying $1100 for not going in sooner. Wow. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. read more

I came to this DMV for the first time for my driving exam after failing several times at Simi. I was stunned by the welcoming and pleasant environment. The staff member, Marianne truly made my day. Her sense of encouragement brought all my nervousness at ease. She is a rare gem to find nowadays. Not to mention Jackie was a pleasant driving administrator. I have had my fair share of snarky administrators and you can just tell it all goes downhill from there. Overall, it was truly a wonderful experience and I would definitely recommend it. read more

I was assigned a number which looked like I had 53 people ahead of me. Do not take your driver's test here. Failed because I wouldn't go 40 in the 25mph school zone when there were kids present. The instructor laughed in my face when I brought it up and told me to go talk to his manager. The manager refused to review my cars camera recording when I told her there were kids and said "you people are always making stuff up" under her breath. Im not sure what she meant by you people but I'm not the only one on here to comment about being discriminated against. read more

My daughter is an excellent driver and got nothing but glowing reviews from her driving school. And she has been driving us for months with her permit. This awful examiner said she did everything right but he failed her because "he didn't like her lane change." She asked what was wrong with it and he had no answer for that. But proceeded to mansplain to her for five minutes in the car just to be a misogynistic, power tripping jerk. I almost yanked him out of the car. A 10.20 appointment didn't materialize until about 50 minutes after the appointed time (I got there on time). However the guy that checked me in was most helpful and the lady who dealt with me was courteous, Knowledgeable and friendly. BEST DMV EVER! I came on Tuesday to get my Drivers License and it only took me 10 minutes to get my paperwork in and get in line to take it. MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. It is so much longer of a line without one. I passed my drivers test with only 3 wrong. The route is super easy and not to busy. I had a very nice lady with blonde hair. Like to keep a conversation and was very understanding. I hope this helps people who are nervous. YOU GOT THIS! read more

I went here to do a driver's license renewal test I didn't know I needed to do. The workers were a little pushy, but once you started talking with them they warm up. The lines were long, but they were as efficient as they could be. If I end up needing to do anything about my license or a car again, I'm coming here. read more

I brought my nephew here because they had the closest available drive test appointment. When we got here, I have realized that my insurance card was expired, but luckily I had a renewed one in my email. I am so grateful that the female worker at window 26 accepted the email document as a proof of insurance and didn't not give us a run around. Also I would like to commend the security officer Patricia, who was very helpful, professional and friendly. Finally , this location is very well organized. Lines move quickly and orderly. P.s. Going to DMV will mostly like be a not-so-good experience. Long wait times, long holds on the phone, and nasty customer service reps, disaster! But today was an exception and it seemed like everyone was happy for a reason, which was actually a great thing, just very unusual for a government institution. I just walked in on a Thursday afternoon (2PM) and waited in line for about 15 minutes to check in. Both receptionists greeted everyone with a warm welcome which I think was fantastic! Waited for another 40 minutes to get called. The guy who updated my record was also nice! I got everything done within an hour which was quite a record! I highly suggest that you get an appointment online and you'll get things done even faster. read more

Great experience getting my real id today. No appointment; arrived around 8:30 am and out about an hour later. Had all my documents and the process was seamless. By the time I got to the front my number was already being called. The only wait was the initial line they sort you into if you don't have an appt and even that was pretty quick. If you for some reason end up taking your drivers test here, do not take it with a man named Carlos, not only will he try to intimidate you but he will have unreasonable expectations and will fail you without an actual reason. Two different people that I know of have gone with him, despite being perfectly good and safe drivers they have been failed, yet when going with another tester they passed.
