Overall this is a good DMV. Most employees are fast and efficient, and friendly for the most part. I was able to get through applying for a Real ID and I took a new photo, with zero complications. I was then sent to window #30 for a temporary license. The Employee, at window #30, named DOLORES (she refused to give me her last name ), was not only unfair, but rude and condescending as well. It was my turn in line and when I arrived at the window Dolores started helping other customers, that were in line behind me. These were mainly customers with much more complicated issues. I stood there quiet for a bit, and when I noticed that she had zero concern for my time, I finally said, " can you please attend to me, because I was in line before all these other people?" At that point she started calling me " honey" and "sweetheart" in a condescending way, and she acted as if I was the one out of line. I said, " I waited in line like everyone else, and now that it's my turn you are asking people behind me what they need and you are trying to solve their dilemmas, it's not ok." She blew my off, while saying " I know honey, I'm helping you too, I didn't send you away. " I then said, " why would you send me away? Im in the right line and it's my turn. I just ask that you stop multitasking and take care of me." At that point she grabbed my paper work and then stated, "please sign" as she threw them back at me, in an aggressive manner. I signed the papers and asked if I was done. She then said " yes you are!" while rolling her eyes and huffing and puffing. My task at window #30 took approximately 2 minutes, after all Dolores' nonsense. Basically I'm just here to say that nobody deserves that type of treatment from any business. Dolores has no customer service skills whatsoever and she is a very rude person. I hope the Winnetka DMV keeps up the good work, but please provide customer service training for this employee, who does not value the customer's time and talks down to her customers, as if they are children. read more

Came in without an appointment scheduled to get my read ID for the first time. I had completed the online registration form beforehand, which helped to expedite the process. The lines were fast; I was probably 10th in line, out of three lines. More importantly, the employees were incredibly friendly and efficient! They engaged in small talk, and were upbeat even at 7-8 in the morning. I came in at 7:30 am (30 minutes after opening), and was out in less than an hour. First of all my son passed his driving test with only three errors but his instructor Jackie was incredibly rude. I've heard many things about her from my son's friends and how rude she is to other new drivers. She scolded my son not once, but twice after making a "mistake" that honestly I myself (driver for 40+ years) would have made aswell. Hopefully she didn't scare any one else with her obnoxiously long intimidating trench coat she is notorious for wearing.(according to son). She was just very rude. P.S. REAL I.D. HASSLES, REAL IGNORANT EMPLOYEES! The easiest damned thing in the world is to complain about the DMV. It is almost a cliche of a cliche. But the reason it is so is because the California Department of Motor Vehicles is a mess...and the people who work there DON'T CARE! Moreover, some of them do not know there jobs. This specific field office seems to be ground zero for that. I had an appointment this morning at 9:20 to get my Real ID. At 9:18 I got on the line dedicated to people with appointments who need to check in. I was a little later than I'd have liked to be, owing to having to park three blocks away. Four people were in front of me, yet I did not get attended to until 9:40. As bad as that is, how about the fact that the person who did attend to me - a fellow wearing a medical mask though I did not get his name - does not know the specifics of getting a REAL I.D.! The first thing he asked me for was my passport. I did not bring my passport. So he pipes up in a smart-alecky tone, "Sir, the first thing on the list of required documents is a passport," and he proceeds to show me the list. Well, sure enough, a passport does show as the first item on the list, but the list is a sort of a la carte menu of identity documents from which applicants are to SELECT ONE. Here is the precise wording from the DMV website: "Identity (one document) Ex: certified U.S. birth certificate, U.S. passport, permanent resident card, or unexpired foreign passport with valid U.S. visa and approved I-94 form." In other words, a passport COULD BE used for this part of the authentication process, but so too could a birth certificate, permanent resident card, or even an unexpired foreign passport with valid visa, etc. This sort of thing is really infuriating, especially when I think of all the people this idiot has turned away who went, perhaps, to the trouble of getting a passport just so they could get a Real I.D. And all he had to do was read the language on that section of the list he showed me to know what was required. This complaint will, of course, come to nothing, since the most unaccountable bureaucracy in the state is the DMV. But at least you might be forewarned: 1. You DO NOT need to have a passport, or have one with you, to get a Real I.D. It is simply one of five specific documents from which ONE will suffice for this section of the process. 2. If you get the guy with the mask, bring a print-out of the required documents from the DMV homepage, just in case he still doesn't understand his job. read more

Tonight , a few minutes ago , literally at 5:00 I was refused RE-ENTRY into the dmv because at 4:55 I exited to get some papers for my mother for registering a car and when I came back every door was closed and I get it but then to make things worse I go around back to an exit and people are exiting , this hilarious dude who didn't even work there as staff or security told me I couldn't come in (dude you're a punk, I hope you have to pay 10 years of registration lol) anyways a security guard came up and I explained I was just in and literally just went out for important paperwork for my mother to submit to the dmv ... that's why we're here right ??? He told me sorry , no way , blah blah blah whatever minimum wage script he's paid to go over , I said the policy is stupid and walked away and had to send pictures of the info to my mom who is still inside . Go to this DMV! They're very nice and helpful and not super long line. I went 25 mins before they opened & there was a line outside the door but i only waited 10 mins inside. It took about 2 hours to get my out-of-country car registered, and to get my California drivers license. The process is typically longer for out-of-country vehicles so I was expecting it to take much longer. I was also missing an international document and they let me go print it and come back and skip the line and go back to the window I was at. Very nice people! Also save yourself time and go online to see if you can fill out your forms before coming. DL form can be done online. read more

She marked me for speeding but I was driving 40 mph in a 40 mph road. It gets worse. She marked me for not stopping at stop signs. I didn't have to stop at red lights. She said I wouldn't stop being the limit line. Here's what I did, I slowed down, stopped BEHIND THE LINE, waited 3 seconds, looked both ways, and then went on. I had failed my first driving test and when you've got anxiety you freak out about your second try, that had been the case today. A lot of the people who work at this DMV have an extremely bad attitude but I got lucky, Debbie who helped with my paperwork was very kind and was full of advice to keep calm during the test. I just came to take my driving test for the first time here and compared to other DMVs I've been to, this one has been the better of the bunch. It was a Monday morning and it wasn't as busy as I would have expected. Eventually it did get busier but since I had an appointment, I was ready to take my behind-the-wheel test right away. The lady who rung me up was very pleasant and my examiner was kind and understanding. He didn't speak much but I prefer that than someone who freaked out easily. The course was very simple, probably took only 10 minutes. I have yet to wait for my ID card but I'd recommend this place for anyone looking to take their behind-the-wheel test. read more

I mean it's the DMV. What more can you expect than to show up wait in line and wait hours for your number to be called. Well here in Winnetka I have to say I had a good experience despite the stereotypical challenges that is going to the DMV. I love that there was someone going through the line letting us know that if we were here for ID's or a drivers license renewal (I was) that we did not have to wait in line and were given a shortcut to another window. I was quickly taken care of and there were computers available to those who didn't register ahead of time. The staff were all friendly and even when I mentioned I couldn't get an appointment, they quickly gave me another for the next time I needed to come in. Also there is now a system that allows you to get a text before your number is called so you don't have to sit there all day. I got my text a little over ten minutes before the number was called. Not overly packed and a decent amount of parking. Happy to come back here. read more

Went in for a 3:40pm appointment time for a driving written test. Yes I had an appointment time. Yes I completed the online application but somehow was told to complete the application again. Was in line after line and at 4:50 the receptionist says to us that we will need to leave and come back another day because they are closing. What's the point of offering appointments after 3pm when you can't complete the task by 5pm? A different issue, can you have Saturday hours in order to serve your community? Most 99% of the community here are working families. I now need to take two half days off from work to go thru the DMV for something that really should have taken at most one hour with an appointment. With all the tax dollars I give this state, they can at least serve our community by opening more DMV's to accommodate the never ceasing apartments and housing being built in the San Fernando Valley. Great service! Went on a Wednesday around 12pm to renew my license to the new Real ID. Wait time was approximately 3 hours with no appointment. They have chairs outside the facility while you are waiting. Once inside, it took about 15 minutes for me to check in and receive my number. From there it was about an 1.5 hour wait to be called. They have a large screen that displays the the numbers and the station they are currently being helped at. No vending machines or snacks, so come prepared! Staff was friendly and worked diligently. read more

The DMV constantly gets negative reviews and I'm definitely not the one who is going to step outside of the normal. The DMV in general sucks but this one in particular is probably the hottest garbage of them all. The service is down right terrible. From the initial line when you walk in, to the second line where I personally needed to get my bill, to waiting two hours for my number to be called just so I could pay my registration fees. To make a long story short, I had to step in hell on earth (DMV) because for some reason my registration forms for both of my cars did not arrive. The DMV tells me "your address is not updated so the forms were sent to your previous address". I changed my vehicle address and home address (yes they are different, smh) when I moved from Simi Valley to Camarillo a few years ago. 2016, and 2017 forms were sent to my current address but 2018 reverts back to my previous address and then the DMV wants to punish me with a late fee. Oh, you better believe I got that late fee removed or else I would have gone gangsta up in there. All in all, if you can do your business with AAA, do it. It's worth the cost. It's not worth losing your sanity over an emotionally stressful environment that quite frankly just doesn't care about you. read more

Oh my, where do I possibly begin? Of all the DMV locations I have been to, this one is by far the worst. Such horrible customer service, it's actually really saddening to see how poorly humans will treat other humans because of a tiny bit of power in their hands. I had a minor issue, I called the DMV multiple times and they said they can't help me over the phone and need me to physically go there, so I did. However after waiting in line for 3 hours, because of course the next available day for an appointment is in December, anyway after waiting for 3 hours I tried to kindly explain my situation my situation to the manager, and she doesn't even wait until I'm done with my story and just says "no" I said, but you haven't listened to what I'm saying, she continued to just say "no I can't do that" Okay so my tax dollars are paying people who don't even have the courtesy to listen to a situation I waited 3 hours in line to tell? And no matter what your problem is, their response is always "no". The employees here are basically robots with no empathy, who read off a page that has generic responses to questions they might get asked, and the answer is always just "no". In my career I actually have to care about people, im a nurse, it's my job to take care of others and listen to everything say and need. You guys are working in CUSTOMER SERVICE, if you're going to be rude to people than get a different job! I'm so angry about my experience, she made me feel worthless, as if she's some powerful ruler and I'm a peasant seeking her approval. It's a DMV; how can it be awesome? There are some positives, it's true, but overwhelmingly things are negative. Positives: If you make an appointment (and WHY don't people make them??), the process doesn't take all that long. Um, I'm out. Negatives: -There is no parking; thank God I got there early. I literally drove around the small lot for 15 minutes before I found a spot. -The workers aren't all that friendly or helpful. The lady checked me in and handed me a paper and didn't direct me at all. Who hangs out at the DMV and just knows the process? Maybe all those other people, but not me. Also, the dude who took my photo made some weird comment about how it's "hard when you do that horizontal thing...well, it's fine." What does that mean? What horizontal thing? I too had a great experience renewing my CA drivers license with the new Real ID. I uploaded everything online beforehand. When I arrived at 8:45am, there was already a long line snaking down Sherman Way! Fortunately, there really IS a separate line that you can join if you've already uploaded your details online. There were only 2-3 people in front of me in line so I was in and out in under an hour. The security guard outside were very good at organising people, advising, answering questions, directing human traffic and ensuring everyone wears a mask. The staff processing the paperwork and taking pictures were very friendly, polite and efficient. Overall, a very pleasant experience. read more

I am so pleased and shocked that I feel I must post this. I had an appointment. Parking was convenient, I was in and out of the DMV in....TEN minutes! The lady I dealt with (wish I had gotten her name (she was in kiosk 13 around 11AM) was pleasant and professional and completely took care of what I needed. I was truly just dumbfounded. Even when i came back to check in at 10 min prior, the lady had to call her frakin supervisor to confirm it was ok?!!! R U SERIOUS!? it's great that they think 'appt schedulers' are so on-point that we can perfectly time driving there and parking in there busy lot and arriving at the front of the line at exactly our appointment time but let's get real and face the reality that 10-15 min prior IS on time! What a ridiculous place. After waiting and waiting... And waiting... I finally receive my new ID, and my name is incorrect. I can't believe the incompetence, and I am so sad that this place exists. The 2 people who helped me was incredibly nice, and I appreciate that. But this is inexcusable. I can't believe that I'm going to have to go through another process to get something that is rightfully mine and should have been done correctly the first time. They make us jump through hoops, play by their rules, and then this. To top it all off, of course I can't get anyone on the phone, and "Miles," their online assistant, doesn't understand sentences and didn't provide the option for me to correct the information on my drivers license. The paper that came with my drivers license says that if any of the information on the card is incorrect, contact them by phone or go online to make an appointment. I can't do either of those things, because when I go to the website to make an appointment, there is no option for correcting information on an ID. And I know how this place works... If I were to make an appointment saying that I would be there for something else, that wouldn't fly with them. Since I can't get through to anyone, I would very much appreciate A response from the DMV to this post, so that we can make this right. read more
