This is an update to the review I wrote in 2019. I have since had 2 neck surgeries as they were inevitable. Thanks to Dr. Chen we were able to put them off for nearly 8 years. Fast-forward to now. I have almost full mobility in my neck (was promised 50% at best by spine doc). Dr. Chen is simply part of my wellness team. If I have any type of an issue he is my first line of defense. What I love about him is he is honest. He will tell you if he can fix it and he will tell you if he can't. I'd much prefer that to "sure I can fix it" and then lots of money later nothing. I was having wierd painful spasms in my right lower back area and above the buttocks and it would happen everytime I would get up from sitting down. One week into it I went to see my Chiropractor to get it checked, but after a couple visits (2 weeks) it still wasn't healing and my Chiropractor recommended an xray - and asked me if I was open to acupuncture. I have never been to one in my life, but was definitely open to it, and so I saw Dr. Winson Chen immediately to get my treatment started. Dr.Chen has a sense of humor, we Chit chat before we get started and assured me that things will be better. It also helps me set my mind to healing. Everything is sanitized and clean, so that gives me comfort too. The needles didn't feel painful at all, and the most I felt was a warm current when he would go deeper. There's relaxing music in the room usually and I stay there for about 20-30mins and he checks in with me from time to time. When I am laying there I meditate and pray and imagine that my pain is going away. I keep my body relaxed and light. As a Nutritional Therapist, having a mind-body connection is important for overall wellness. I wanted each session to be a healing connection. Within 3-4 sessions my spasms were diminished and I was able to do more light walking! And as I kept improving I am now able to do some jump rope workouts! I follow his home care advise - to put heat pads on the area of concern, and I do, I am currently on my 4th month and I could say that I am 95% healed (I was consistent) and my painful spasms never cane back. Dr Chen healed my lower back pain last October after Kaiser had recommended surgery!! He was honest about the treatment that may take twice a week for a month then taper off. HE WAS RIGHT!!! I came in not being able to sit for more than 10-15 minutes. Couldn't drive. Only comfort was laying flat on my back on the floor. Winson did a phenomenal job with my back and neck pain. I lived in San Martín for about a year, during that time I saw Winson for acupuncture. Within that time he helped me to diminish what was a constant and debilitating pain to just a few tight spots that occasionally pop when I move. If you are in pain and nothing seems to work, give Dr. Chen a chance to help. I had a bad case of tennis elbows on both arms and couldn't use both of my arms. I tried chiropractic , physical therapy, and took a lot of muscle pain killers but the pain lingered around 8-9. I have never thought about trying acupuncture or if it would work but the pain seemed to get so bad and I needed my arms back. My friend recommended to go for acupuncture and I found Dr. Chen online and got an appointment on the same week. Thanks to Juliet. Dr. Chen asked me to give him one month to get better. When I started the pain was at level 8-9. After the first week, I could move my arms and the pain was down and stay down at 7. The next 2 weeks I could feel I got my functional arms back and the pain was down to 4-5 on the scale of 10 (most intense pain). The symptom was completely gone by the last week, the pain came back intermittently at 2-3 depends on my stress level that week. My arms are now completely back to normal. Office is a little quiet but who cares when the treatments actually work. Pricing is a little on the high side compared to similar providers. I would definitely go back. Office is clean and treatment rooms are too. Parking is ample and location is a little off the beat and path however it's very easy to find. I could not give Dr. Chen a higher recommendation. I am an acupuncture enthusiast, have studied acupuncture casually in Japan many many years ago, and cannot say enough about it as a treatment option. Dr. Chen is one of the best, and is a complete master. He is something like a 4th generation acupuncturist, and has a uncanny knack/intuition about the right thing to do.
