But you have to tinkle, get gas, and get snacks, especially when your trip randomly gets longer. So, we pulled into Steer Stop. Let me tell you: I have never seen a cleaner restroom anywhere. It was like using the restroom in someone's home, that has just been professionally cleaned. My mom and I were so thankful!! They also had a lot of good food. Not just snacks and junk. They had real, honest to goodness, food. I got carrot chips to snack on, since I hadn't had any veggies all day. I was just so impressed with this convenience store, so far off the beaten path, that someone would put so much care into this. The woman working was wonderful, she just beamed from behind her mask when I told her how much I appreciated her clean restroom and healthy fare. We got our gas and I went inside the store with our baby. We desperately needed milk- but the shelf was empty. I asked the cashier if there was any milk. Without hesitation she went to "check the back". She back empty-handed. They were out. As I began to make my way back to the car with a crying baby, she says, "Wait! You can get some whole milk from the coffee creamer dispenser! Just buy the cup and you'll have milk for your baby." I got the milk and our baby got her bottle and fell fast asleep. This may not sound like the most epic review, but I want to give a HUGE shout-out to Crystal for her quick-thinking and for tapping into her mother (soon-to-be-grandmother) instincts. We usually gas the vehicle, regardless of the gas price. We always use the restroom. I think the restrooms are pretty clean for the most part. My husband has not mentioned his bathrooms, so they must be clean enough too. I often will get a Subway sandwich. The Subway looks clean and well kept. The store is decently stocked with all sorts of snacks. The parking lot is quite large, and the store is usually very busy. It will continue to be our half way stop point.

There are not a lot of reasons to make…read moreregular trips to San Antonio, NM, but we make a point of stopping by this little general store nearly every time we are south of Socorro on I-25. We stop for the fudge, which may well be some of the best in the world. The flavors are rich and intense. We pick up a half-pound or so of the Amaretto every time we stop, then savor it for about a week after. I think we got a little more than that this time, and expanded our horizons to Chewy Praline and Capuccino. Yum!! We also expanded to the selection of ice cream. It's not site-made, small-batch like the fudge, but it is very well sourced and managed at the correct temperatures to retain all the soft, creamy qualities of ice cream and sorbet you could wish for. From April through October, this stretch of I-25 is on the order of sweltering, and that ice cream is the best cold treat for about 50 miles in either direction. It wasn't hot on this November afternoon, but the raspberry sorbet and rainbow sherbet were wonderful nonetheless.
