I currently have my youngest niece enrolled at Hofstra, who also had her HS graduation here, and my other niece had her college graduation held at Hofstra. I've been to the university several times, for graduation ceremonies, and to help cousins move into their dorms and moving out. The school is very easy to navigate. There's clear signs all throughout, and the parking lots of heavenly lit at night. There's always onsite security cruising around, which is a plus and gives that extra layer of protection that you, and your family who are attending are safe. The events, and student get togethers that I so often hear about are all planned by the student council, and they always seem well organized and though out, and fun might I add! You can always find something going on at the campus, planned and hosted by the students themselves. Emily, loves it here. She's forever ranting and raving about the events, meetings, after school events, bake sales, culture nights etc. All of which she helps to plan as she's the head of the student council. If you're a parent thinking to send your child here to further their education, no need to think twice. It's a great private school. The beautiful and historic Dutch estate has been ranked as a top schools in the US for many years in a row. You and your child will love and appreciate the history Hofstra has.

Most of the professors here aren't qualified to teach & are extremely unhelpful & sometimes rude. The Bursar & Fin. Aid office are the worst b/c nobody wants to do their job & they will have you running in circles trying to find answers for anything, I have had so many issues w/ both departments & had to harass them just to get solutions. The dorms are dirty & are never redone & maintenance never comes to fix anything. If I could write a book about how bad this school is I would. Pro's: -Large, quiet campus.. 2nd largest on Long Island, 2nd only to Stony Brook in acres. -4 day school weeks. They only have classes Mon-Thurs, though a handful of Science majors will have lab on Fridays. -For the most part, understanding and hard working faculty, who do try to provide a good and competent college experience. -The past 2 years, the school has been renovating its academic buildings and facilities. -The campus is located a short 5 minute drive from restaurants and convenience stores in nearby Hicksville. Cons: -A handful of professors who make college absolutely miserable for their students.. (from personal experience) -As one reviewer put it nicely, f**king Nazi campus police who write tickets to the drivers who try to obey the speed limits and let the road ragers go. -Awful shuttle bus service who almost never follows the normal bus schedules. -Come nighttime, lots of wildlife in the area..deer, rabid raccoons, possums, skunks, snakes, etc.. -The dorms are poorly maintained, and many times, in the middle of the night, some random inebriated (OOH SNAP, BIG WORD) idiot will pull the fire alarm, prompting everyone to evacuate and campus police to come, physically check all the rooms and then let everyone back inside. This happens AT LEAST 1-2x a week. Simply put, this is a "commuter" school. 75% of their students do not dorm. From Friday to Sunday, this place is a ghost town. The college has an excellent Education program, as well as, competitive Psychology, Criminology, and Accounting programs. I graduated in 2012, and I can say that I didn't waste 4 1/2 years here.. loll

Mind you they didn't stop us or anything, we came in because we were a bit lost around campus. Real helpful guys. I'm sure that while the 8 of your are lounging around, someone was urinating in the bushes around the corner. Then I gladly used their makeshift bathroom and tore paint off the walls after that horrendous "taco bell didn't have a bathroom" experience 20 minutes earlier. Take that rent-a-cops. I hope Hofstra runs amuck with hordes of wild boars.

Only came in here to get my parking permit since I was visiting someone, which turned out to be pretty easy. I was asked why I was visiting, how long (as in days) and what my plate number was. Then I was handed a card to put on my dashboard that showed the length of time the permit was good for and my plate number. Much easier and less rough environment than most places you can get permits.
