Dinner here was fine, but not the 4.5 star experience Yelp led us to believe. Yelpers so…read morerecommended this place that we tried to go our first night in town, and were advised that it might be a 30 minute wait -- but the staff *also* told the 7 parties ahead of us that it might be a 30 minute wait for them, too. So we went elsewhere. We went back the next night at an off-hour and while the food was fine, I would have been highly disappointed had we waited in line for 30 minutes, let alone 2 or more hours. This restaurant has a prime location and a strong online reputation. And perhaps our experience was impacted by the fact that we went at an off-hour. Still, there are much better options, with equal character, available across the city. Consider branching out -- and check my other Salzburg reviews for other alternatives.

If you're planning on having dinner in Salzburg and it's not at the Christmas market, I highly…read morerecommend eating here. We came in around 5pm for an early dinner before our train back to Munich and was able to grab a table for 4. We got incredibly lucky because the restaurant really filled up and by the time we left, there was a long line down the block. Of course we had to have their Original Wiener Schnitzel, which was so crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. We also had a Salzburger Nockerl, which is a classic Austrian soufflé dessert that is considered a culinary symbol of Salzburg. You do have to order this about 20 minutes in advance, so we ordered it when we made our entree orders. This was really good and honestly, more than enough for our group of 4. I also highly recommend their house beer, which was one of the best beers I had during our 10 day trip.

This was our first meal in Austria, we searched for a genuine restaurant where we could experience…read morea more authentic regional experience, not necessarily catered to the tourist crowds. Mildly jet lagged from a 10 hour flight & 2 hour drive, we found a place we could walk to, as we needed to stretch our legs. This place was hard to find, simply because Google maps was slightly off on how to get there, and the Yelp page had it listed as a hotel. In general, the online review world is much more limited in the Innsbruck area, so let's see if I can help that. Menu here: https://www.gasthaus-bretterkeller.at/speisekarte/ We stumbled into a smoky bar full of a few groups/family's having meals and the general feeling was overwhelmingly positive and happy. With our extremely limited German, and the waitresses limited English, we were able to navigate the menu and get a recommendation easy enough, and got our meal & drinks ordered. New to us, we asked about a bowl of breads/pretzels and were told we could pick and pay for what we wanted. Our meal was fantastic. Not light or the most healthy, but delicious nonetheless. Zwiebelrostbraten mit roestkartoffeln (Steak with Crispy Onions with roasted potatoes): The Steak with crispy onions & potato is apparently a pretty traditional dish, it was indeed a hearty and filling meal, the flavor was definitely great, the meat wasn't the leanest cut possible, but that's fine, to be expected. Steirischer Backhendlsalat mit Kernol (Fried chicken salad): The salad was very good too, fried chicken pieces over a green salad (over a potato salad). Once again, not light, but all tasted great. Not a huge place, but definitely felt like it could have been there for 100 years. The patio had a great view over the valley to the north, but it was a cooler evening so not many patrons out there. Only warning I give, as a visitor from another country, smoking indoors is still very common in Austria, so be prepared to walk into a smoky bar/restaurant/shop, otherwise we absolutely loved our meal here! Had we not wanted to try more places, we would definitely return again!
