Found this amazing company after doing a google search for plumbers near me and am so unbelievably happy that I did. Many people told me to call a company that has rooter in their name but I didn't want to as I wanted to support a local, family owned business. Everyone that I interacted with was so nice and helpful. They were honest and upfront about what they were going to do and were able to get our issue resolved within a couple hours and for a very fair and reasonable price. We had Wischmeyer's Plumbing Plus (528 Hollenbeck Street, Rochester, NY) come to do 3 simplistic repairs we specified in detail before they came out: a leaking turnoff valve behind a toilet, a leaking exterior spigot (hose bib) and a short PVC extension to exhaust sewer gases (something they had attempted prior that proved ineffective). In the past 5 times we have used them they have given us material price and then labor costs despite having a small notation on their receipts that suggested they are a "flat fee" business. This time JoeB. wrote on a scrap piece of paper what appeared to be estimates of the work. I agreed to and paid for the work not realizing that the details of the materials involved. Joe B. arrived at 8am and under the guise of leaving for parts offered an unnecessary isolation valve to turn water back on in the rest of the house. I refused it. He left for roughly 30 minutes returning to wrap up the job shortly after...roughly 10:30am. THE PROBLEM began when I learned from my husband later that day the limited materials used to complete the job. I then priced those out at retail: less than $100 or parts were used. We then checked several resources to find what an average fair charge for plumbing repairs would be in our area: $60-$80 per hours. There is absolutely no way for Wischmeyer's to justify a charge of roughly $471 per hour labor. When my spouse called to complain the person answering the phone gave excuses for those exploitative charges were numerous and are as follows: "We aren't a materials and labor company but a flat rate company" even thought that had never been our prior experience and "You are paying for expertise and experience" even though all their plumbers are licensed. We suspect the patriarch of this family business has retired leading to new unethical, amoral, exploitative charging policies. She refused any refund other than the $79 service fee. Even though they do good work using flat rate charges as an excuse to exploit customers for ridiculous labor charges is inexcusable and I can not use their business again. read more

We had a main drain clog that had caused a surging smelly backup through the gravity drain of the furnace into our house. After having a scheduled appointment postponed, we grew very concerned as any water usage in the house made the problem much worse. We called Plumbing Plus and was pleasantly surprised by their concern regarding our situation. Not only did they try to save us money by offering an alternative free solution, they were prepared to come out and service the drain if it did not work. The dispatcher sent a text when I made the appointment to confirm the day and time, and I received a text the day of the appointment to let me know the technician was on his way. They just made my day. Literally the happiest I could possibly be right now (in the middle of a pandemic). My hot water heater went out last week. And I called a different company that came up higher on the search algorithm on Yelp to come take look at it. They told me I would probably need a new water heater and that they could take care of it for me for the low low price of $2400. They mentioned there was a small chance it was still under warranty and that I could check that out first but stated they thought I should just replace it since it's not a great water heater anyway. Not wanting to spend $2400 without exploring all options I called the company that made the water heater and discovered that mine was still under warranty. They recommended Wischmeyer's as the local service providers. This is where the first part of their awesome customer service came in. I am a resident physician. And when all of this went down I was working nights leaving no time in my life for anything but work and sleep. I spoke to their 24hr answering service about the issue and told them it wasn't an emergency but that I would be hard to get a hold of during business hours since I would most likely be sleeping. The office staff accepted this challenge and opted to text me updates and requests for information so I could book a service call as soon as possible. It was perfect. I could sleep through the day and respond whenever I had a minute at work. Then when they showed up for the service call today, they worked on the water heater for about 10 min. Came upstairs and told me the part would be here by Friday and in the meantime they put a generic part in place that should allow me to take a hot shower until the right part came in!!!! My joy cannot be fully described. And total for the service call, temporary part and placement of eventual replacement warranty part ....$250! Thank you read more

Our first service experience with them was excellent. The dispatcher was pleasant over the phone, and the technician arrived quickly, dealt with the problem efficiently, and gave very good advice so we'll avoid the problem in future. The second time was supremely disappointing. Two technicians were sent for this call. One seemed more focused on pitching a sale for a new water heater plus HVAC. The other made a diagnostic decision that resulted in more damage than the problem they had been called to address. We paid for the service call, but followed up by calling the company to express our disappointment. Let's just say that our disappointment escalated to anger in light of the rude way they responded to our concerns. We absolutely would not recommend Plumbing Plus. read more
