Clean, service-oriented pet store that goes out of the way for its customers. I have had three positive experiences there. I went in there looking forward a new dog food in December. Two of the people there asked questions about my dog and his habits, then debated between them about the merits of two specific dog foods. They even explained to me what they were talking about so I could make an informed decision. My other other two experiences were just as good. Items that I needed that were either not in stock or they didn't carry them - so they ordered for me. This is great if you don't need the items right away. Overall, the store has a selection of quality products and are willing to put in that extra effort for the customer. read more

I love Wiscoy!!! I have a dog with food allergies and they are the only store around that carries the brand Fromm (which is a fantastic grain free food btw). The staff is always more than willing to help you with any pet related question you have. They are very knowledgable and I can tell they love animals and their jobs (unlike the other larger pet store in the area) Last time I was in, I was shopping around and listened as the one woman helped with a training issue that a couple had. They had their dog at the store and the employee was helping them hands on with their issue! It made me very happy to see them help a customer and not try to push any merchandise on them while doing it. Plus, if you get a chance to take your dogs to their Ice Cream Socials or Halloween Event, I would do so! It's free and so much fun!!! I recommend this store to everyone I know! I was a frequent flyer at petco until I discovered this store. I don't mind paying a little extra if it's a local store, especially if it's deserving of it because of their employees. Petco doesn't care about you or your dogs. They are mostly younger people who have no personality or knowledge of animals at all. And are even kind of rude. This place is so much more. The time and effort Wanda from Wiscoy has spent helping us with our newest dog has been worth more than the few extra bucks I've spent here. They also have way more stuff than big chain stores. Most of the time I can find what I need here, and if not, the staff is always willing to give some advice or help you out. For me, the most important thing in a business like this is staff interactions and attitudes dealing with customers. And this place is one of the best at that. I have ALWAYS left the store smiling and feeling good. As long as I live in state college, this will be my store. read more

LOVE this store!!! Wonderful products with just as wonderful employees. The owner (who's name I don't know, sorry!) is always so helpful and caring. And you don't even wanna get me started on Hannah. But I'm gonna do it anyways. We LOVE her! After bringing our dog in only a handful of times, she always remembered him and asked about him if we didn't bring him in. Now after being customers of over 2 years, we always have to ask if she's working whenever we bring him in to get his dog food once a month. He adores Hannah and seems to always look for her! And so do we! We live an hour away, but travel from Lock Haven every month just to come in to get food and browse all the cool products they're constantly getting in. Wiscoy's is wonderful!! I moved to State College about a year ago and have been shopping here ever since. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgable and always take the time to help you find products that suit your needs and if they do not have it they will order it for you. However if you're not looking for top quality pet food, treats and supplies, this may not be the best place for you. Wiscoy's does not sell junk. I was so excited to find a local pet store in State College, until my experience. First, I will start off with the positives. I like how they have a few healthier options for dog food. Example: Fromms, Logic, and Stella and Chewy's. The store layout is nice and they have a huge treat selection. They also sell non pet related items as well. I experienced 1 genuinely friendly employee there. Not the conditional type of friendliness that is the majority. Now, the not so positives. I walk in like a normal customer and start shopping. As I'm looking at doggy apparel I over hear an employee refer to a man sitting at a table, with his dog on a leash next to him, as dr. so and so. The man's sweet dog sniffs my dog, which was fine by me. My dog then turns his head to check out the dog. Both were and are very peaceful. The employee rudely and frantically puts her hands on my dogs leash and YANKS my dog back while saying NO NOSE TO NOSE WITH THE DOGS! I was shocked! And honestly felt violated. My dog is an elderly dog and I thought to myself all this women had to do was tell me. Her yanking reaction could have caused a serious problem when there was none to begin with. There was no need for this. She didn't yank dr. so and so's dog leash, she yanked mine- without taking anything outside of their "rule" into account. Not good. I really wasn't going to ever step foot in there again due to this women's lack of respect and judgment. I went home feeling very upset. I really wanted to call the owner, but took a deep breathe and gave myself some time to cool down. When I went back I opened the door and the employees yelled wait! We have to put our dogs away! I guess they have the owners dogs there during business hours without a leash (which is fine by me! I love dogs!) but do not allow their dogs out when customers come in, with their dogs. They then told me that they have a sign on the door that says you have to ask before coming in with a dog, which is annoying, but ok I guess. I respect that, but when I see they are stressing out scrambling to put their dogs away, I feel stressed. Ok, now once I got the nose to nose rule down and the asking before you come in with your dog rule down, I tried to just think positively turning a new leaf. Until today- I simply asked why they get so frantic about putting their dogs away when people come in. They said, "well, it's because the one is a puppy and the other may feel the need to protect it plus it's like their home and we don't allow nose to nose." In my mind why create this frantic scenario with the dogs, making customers ask before coming in, waiting outside in the cold while they put their dogs away. Either they are ok out or they are not. Why all of this at the customer's expense. Just doesn't make sense. Do you or don't you want customers at your store spending their time and money? Personally, I think no nose to nose is absolutely fine and I respect that, but can't say asking before coming in creates a welcoming feeling or environment. Finally, after they explained why they always act so frantic about putting their dogs away, I said I understood and that I also have a rule, which is no hand to nose with my dog. One employee said, why? Will your dog bite? And I said no, but it is a boundary I set to protect my dog that most people respect and understand ( common sense ). And she thought it was ok to talk to me the way she did saying " Well I wouldn't bring my dog out in public if he didn't like being touched by people (challenging me instead of saying ok, no problem!)(I shouldn't have to explain to you in the first place)." I said it isn't about that. It has nothing to do with my dog being aggressive, it's MY boundary. As I walked away I heard her making a snotty comment. You see MY dog isn't public property (though he is the sweetest and smartest) just because he's in public (and no, that doesn't mean he should trust everyone). So whether it's my hair, or my purse or my dog, I expect you to get consent first. Simply ask. This is the 21st Century. You working with dogs should know this. It makes me cringe to think this place would negatively label any person or dog due to a common sense boundary set. I'm there to shop with my dog and to hopefully have a pleasant experience not to have my "ask first" rule to be downed or questioned the way it was or be violated in anyway(aka don't ever physically yank my dogs leash again). Listen you have your rules and I have mine and I ask you respect them. I may or may not give this place another try, but if I do I ask you please respect my personal space and boundaries. You will have to earn my continued business. And if you feel you are too good for my business that is very sad-I will share my experience accordingly. Your establishment owes me an apology! So I used to go to Wiscoy all the time-I took my little husky puppy there to socialize and she LOVED it! Until the day that my husband and I took her there as we had many times before and some random employee we had never seen yelled at us about bringing our puppy in. Something about an unfriendly-ish store dog? I mean, if you're going to have a business pet at a, you know, pet store...maybe it should be friendly? Anyway, from that point forward we never returned to Wiscoy for anything, with or without our dog. Business tip: Please don't alienate customers because you have a "store dog" that can't handle other animals. My puppy and I have never been back and, sadly, now support Chewy for our food and medicinal needs rather than small business, which is our preference. Seriously...please monitor your employees and store pets better. To be fair, until then, the employees and store were great! read more

they are probably more expensive than petco, but they are local and pretty to very helpful. the sales folks will often suggest free or no-cost solutions to problems. it almost seems like some of the things they sell are for suckers in that if you ask if you should buy them they will talk you out of them! we will continue to go back. read more

Wiscoy is tops! They carry products that the super stores don't like Musher's Secret to protect a dog's feet from snow and ice. When my dog had an eating problem, Wanda spent a half hour counseling me, and we had the dog turned around to being an eager kibble eater within a week. Highly recommended. read more

I have come into Wiscoy on several occasions to ask a few general questions on products. Dee has always been incredibly nice and friendly. However, a manager (not sure of her name, short white hair) has always been incredibly abrasive to me, dumbed me down and treated me like an idiot. I am an extremely good pet owner. She flat out told me they won't answer my questions if I continue to shop at competitors. Well maybe when Wiscoys prices start being comparable to other retailers I will buy everything there. For now I buy specialty items there and I shouldn't be bullied into buying everything there if I cannot afford it. Wiscoy should be happy with the business I choose to give. And this lady doesn't even green me anymore when I go in she automatically says judgmental things to me right when I go in the door and is abrasive in demeanor and words. She should not be working in customer service. I thought it was a bad day for her at first but it's like every time I go in she's plain out nasty. Amazing locally run pet store that holds the highest standards in animal care. My kids and I love to stop by to visit the cats available from local shelters (and succumbed once to the need to bring one home) and everyone is always so friendly and helpful. A couple of weeks ago I opened the door to Wiscoy to enter and the owner's (Wanda?) dog charged me . I love dogs- so, I just let it go for the moment. I shut the door and waited for her to put her dog away before re-entering with mine, opening the door again asking permission to enter. Right away they tried blaming me for their dogs aggressive behavior. They said I should have left my dog in the car before asking permission to enter. A simple genuine apology would have been appropriate. Now fast forward to today. I open the door and ask permission to enter with my dog. Wanda immediately bombards me with questions. She said, "Is everything ok with your dog?" I said why do you ask? She said because I have seen him wear a muzzle in the store and I just was wandering if he is ok. I said yes, he is ok. She went on asking me more questions totally in my space. She said, "why was he wearing a muzzle?" I said, why do you ask? She said, "because I want to know if their is a problem?" I said he has never caused any problem in your store and we have been coming in for 2 yrs. She said, I didn't think so. I told her she was making me uncomfortable and that I would like to continue shopping. She got very defensive. Very combative and way out of bounds. She said well I didn't know if he was wearing a muzzle because he just came off the bus, she said, "are you hiding something?" I told her she needed to leave me alone and that I was leaving and she said, "Let's just make this final, then." As I left she followed me all the way outside and continued to be combative. I told her she was way out of line and I left. I told her it is YOUR dog that is aggressive and left. Needless to say, I am contacting the BBB, the Attorney General, and other entities on her and this business. They are very nice to people whom they think have money and if you do not want to put up with their overwhelming intrusive abrasive comments they will run you out. This is not healthy for any community...I really don't care who she is or who she knows. I am also contacting an attorney. If my dog has never caused any problems there ever...then stay out of our business! Where do you get off asking me if I'm "hiding" something? Now you are implying I'm hiding something? We just came in there peacefully to get some food and you think it's ok to treat your customers that way? It is a different story if my dog was acting like your dog and charging you. Most of the staff at Wiscoy will go the extra mile if you have an issue with your animal or need help and at least all of them will say hi to you. If you ever have an issue with finding a new food for your animal this is the place to go. Some of them really know what they are talking about and you can tell they know their products unlike going to a place like Petco where nobody really knows anything. I like that they carry higher quality products than other stores but..... I find that they are out of things that they should have A LOT and even though the staff is willing to "hold" the item when it comes in, it is frustrating to have to wait a week or two for something like food especially if you are almost out. I have heard "well the truck comes on such and such a day and we can hold it for you" a few too many times. I guess I just don't understand why the place runs out of feed so much when they are essentially a FEED store.The place has a lot of neat gifts but if I had to choose I'd rather they have less nicknacks on the shelf and instead actually keep my dog food in stock. This would definitely be a 5 star place if they had the item I was looking for in stock at least 50% of the time :( Over all most of my experiences there have been pleasant and if you've never been there you need to check it out- you can bring your animal in as well. read more
