I've volunteered with ACTION several times with my church. I love the interaction I have with the seniors we serve. They are so happy to have these small things fixed around their house; because to them, it means a BIG change in their ability to live independently! We volunteered here a couple of weeks ago. As volunteer staff in the evening dinner service it was…read moreheart breaking and humbling to help out. Those in need truly benefited from the chance for a warm meal of merit + a few minutes of Christian guidance. My daughters and I served plates, bussed tables, and I serviced the water for the dining room. They carry on entirely with NO government support. It is all funded with donations of food and materials which they sell at their thrift shops. They claim 86% of all revenue pass through to the actual rescue mission. That is exceptionally efficient! With their operation they generate an average of 500 meals a day. This translates into 3500 meals a week... or about 15,000 / 30 day month.... or an IMPRESSIVE 180,000 meals a year! Families are served separate from single men, and the men are divided into a safer and not so safe group. Children and young people volunteer and the staff watches over them carefully. Contact or interaction with volunteers and those they serve is well managed and seems safe enough. By the same token those whom my daughters and I served were cordial and grateful with thanks and smiles. I am truly humbled by their plight and am looking to help in more ways then just volunteer hours. I encourage one and all to go volunteer. It will help you find thankfulness for where-ever you are in life ... and your time and efforts will help those in need in meaningful ways. The organization also runs facilities which provide a safe place to sleep. They have rules for those sleeping in their facilities so it is sheltering and permanent continuous residency. Curious and logical. Oh well - there it is .... do some good for others ... maybe do so good for some in our region who have great need for basic survival. I give 4 stars because it can always get better. I have seen amazing work done by other organizations for those in need (in comparison).

I have been given a tour of the pantry and COO interactions have been nothing but lovely. The pantry is just one part of this place. I am sorry Eric J but your information is false. As far as the bathroom I can't speak on that because they have bathrooms in the office I volunteer at. Research your facts before posting such ignorant reviews. Is toxic and creates a toxic and hostile work environment for the poor employees there.While volunteering there I observed a "policy " be implemented by Jan H. that won't allow the homeless clients to use the restroom while there receiving services because she also uses that bathroom. The poor case workers can't even let their clients go pee with out fear of some sort of retaliation or reprimand for a inhumane and prejudiced policy.

DRAGG's mission is to provide an alternative to gangs, graffiti, and other misconduct through a positive workforce training opportunity in the unique environment of the automotive and trade industry. The DRAGG program has operated in Ventura County high schools since 2011, serving at-risk students related to criminal involvement, gang participation, dropping out of school, substance abuse, and other poor life choices. DRAGG leverages the shared enthusiasm within the automotive industry by providing a common interest for students and mentors while building a positive connection. This creates an effective learning environment that leads to DRAGG students completing high school. Acquiring skills and referrals in the lucrative automotive and trade fields will lead them successfully into the workforce after graduation.
