We're used to Ginnie Springs or similar parks so this was new to us. I'm giving it 4 stars bc the owner, Jeff and the residents were friendly. The camp sites were clean, offered power, sewer and water and was very quiet. We didn't see a lot of families but it's towards the end of summer so didn't expect to. There are 3 bathrooms/showers. We only used the ones at the pool area and they were nice. The pond has a lot of brim, bass and more for catch and release. They offer kayaks and canoes to use anytime before dusk. After passing by other campgrounds that we saw on google I think we'd definitely stay here again. It's literally a 5 minute drive to Weeki Wachee too!

TIP*** For those of you who prefer a Holiday INN, there is one right at the entrance of the park. HOWEVER, ever since someone was killed on the main entrance (being stupid and racing up the middle) they don't let you ride in, you have to tow your ATV/Dirtbike in. Going 15 miles an hour on a bumpy dirt road for miles can take a while.

This park requires an admission fee or an annual pass. On the bank of the Withlacoochee River, this campground is a peaceful, paddlers paradise. Other recreational activities include: fishing, day use picnic area, wildlife viewing, and hiking. The Withlacoochee River, Little Withlacoochee River, and Jumper Creek meanders through this forest which spans across 5 counties and exceeds 165,000 acres. Withlacoochee is a Native American word meaning "crooked river". This accurately describes the Withlacoochee River as it makes its 70-mile journey from the Green Swamp, in northern Polk County, to the Gulf of Mexico at Yankeetown. Complementing the natural water features are the open pine sand hills, dense woodlands, and canopied roads and trails. Tree species found on the forest include slash pine, longleaf pine, pond and bald cypress, maple, southern magnolia, hickory, and various species of oak. There is also an abundance of colorful wildflowers during the Autumn, including goldenrod, thistle, and blazing star. These natural features create excellent habitat for bald eagles, fox squirrels, gopher tortoise, white-tail deer, and turkeys, to name a few animals. Facilities include many miles of trails for hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, and paddling. Seasonal hunting is available in most of the forest, and fish are plentiful in the many lakes and flowing waterways. Many day-use facilities are available on Withlacoochee State Forest for picnicking and wildlife viewing. The Croom Motorcycle Area provides a developed campground and 2,600 acres of off-road trails for motorcycle and all-terrain vehicle (ATVs) enthusiasts. We enjoyed the peaceful day use area while scoping out the campground for a possible future camping trip. Full-facility, primitive, and group camping are available at numerous locations. Non-electric campsites with water at each site and a bathhouse. Each site has a picnic table and a fire ring with grate and/or a grill. There is a maximum of 1 RV and 1 tent or 3 tents per site. Neither pets nor alcohol is permitted. The campground has a restroom with showers available for use. Hog Island Campground has one paddle-in only campsite. Just like the other sites, there is a grill, picnic table and water spigot, as well as access to the restroom. This site is tent only, and does not allow for vehicle access. The youth camp area is for organized youth groups only. It allows for either 2 groups of 25 or less, or one group of 50 or less. The youth group camp is non-electric, but has water, and access to the restroom. Boat Ramp/Kayak Launch/Day Use Area: While the parking lot is unpaved, the Hog Island boat/kayak launch is concrete, and offers access to the Withlacoochee River. In addition to the launch, you will find a few picnic tables, grills and the foot trail in this area. There is access to fishing, canoeing, and kayaking in the Withlacoochee River from campground. Day Use Hours: 7am - 8pm. You can enjoy a 2-mile loop foot trail near the boat/kayak launch, or explore the out-and-back Croom Hiking Trail, which has a small parking area and some picnic tables (no grills). Hunting is permitted in the Withlacoochee State Forest, so make sure to check the schedule and wear bright-colored clothing if you decide to hike during hunting season. The road leading into Hog Island Campground & Day Use Area is unpaved. We had no problem navigating the road in our car, we simply followed the speed limit and kept a close eye out for ruts in the road. I recommend bringing along bug spray for your trip to Hog Island, one that works for both mosquitos and ticks. A Florida State Parks Annual Pass costs $60 for an Individual Pass (unlimited entry for one person) or $120 for a Family Pass (up to eight people), valid for one year from purchase; additional people with an individual pass pay $2 each, but these passes don't cover camping or special activities like boat tours, and there are separate options for Sportsman Licenses or Foundation Memberships. The Unlimited pass includes entry into most of Florida's state parks for the pass holder(s). The annual pass does not cover: Camping, boat tours, tubing, garden admissions, or other special-use fees. Locals love it and I see why. Down to earth and real folks! Beer by the bottle and some liquor. Come for the basics and enjoys a low key fun time. We visited the main building which had many examples of artifacts that reflect what time was like in FL back in time. My favorites were seeing the Victorian Doll Houses and seeing how detailed the homes were. I also loved seeing the dolls and the types of clothes they would be wearing by decade. My favorite was walking through the back. It was a nice sized village that had a church, school, train station, home, grove, garage, tool shed, barn, etc. There was a number of activities, actual people dressed back in time, animals, etc. There is a lot to see here. They often have special events throughout the year. If you like their Facebook, their events will pop up. Their next event has to do with their popular homemade sugar cane. That event will be Jan. 9. This place is fun, pretty, & educational at the same time.

You'll see her working around the camp all day into the night, cleaning the showers and bathrooms, mowing lawn, doing the work of three men, emptying trash, asking how your stay is going. Oftentimes, as you drive up to the gate, Teresa will run out of her house with a big smile and offer to open the gate so you don't have to get out of the car. We we're sitting by the river one afternoon when Teresa was heading toward the church to clean and dust and mop. We asked her when the last time she's gotten into the river. To our surprise and dismay, she said it's been over 5 years. Teresa makes the camp what it is! I don't think we would keep coming back if she weren't here. She is a delightful lady. This is a perfect little campground that can be reserved via the reserve America website. There's an option for RVs or tent sites. Maximum number of people is eight. Amenities include a picnic table, fire ring, potable water, Electricity with a 50 amp outlet, and a bathroom that includes showers. While we did not bring our fur friend, this is a pet friendly campground. Check in time is 3 PM and check out time is 1 PM. We really enjoyed our stay. The view of Oak trees and open grassy area. It really is the simple little things in life sometimes. Once you reserve your spot, you will be given a code for the gate in your reservation email. There are many hiking and primitive camping options nearby in the Withlacoochee State Forest. I will definitely be back !

Owners and employees are awesome, and the River next to the campsite is beautiful. It was a busy weekend in Ocala considering a virus was spreading. Every camp site in the national park was booked. That did not stop my friends and I from looking. We ended up finding Bronson's camp which was an hour and a half away from from where we were, But this camping was happening one way or another. When we arrived we were sketched out, this place is in the middle of nowhere in central Florida. You see crazy sh** in the movies, so anything becomes scary right. Anyhow, we come across this beautiful river which we ended up camping next to. We are so happy to have discovered this gem. The owners were welcoming, kind, and patient. The employees were fun, one hung out with us for a bit. The people around the camp were super nice. The river was pretty, the way the trees hovered and the dock with two mean ducks haha. Canoes were available for rent ($25) which I would of taken if I hadn't been to intoxicated. It's $15 per tent (2person). Cheap compared most campgrounds. The bathrooms are not luxurious but if you spent time outdoors it's not something that matters. My night here was unforgettable, no one shut us up, there was 14 of us and it was late at night, so please be respectful and modest.
