this review is based on the delivery. Delivery is very…read moreexpensive - about half the price of my order, approximately $22 for $45 order. This was to be for their regular delivery which I thought was two days but is actually three days. Because the product is perishable if you don't order by a certain time on Wednesday, the order won't go until the following week. Something to know if you need food more quickly. I was ordering for a birthday. Because I ordered on a Wednesday, the delivery didn't go out to the following Monday and didn't arrive till Wednesday. The order was for bacon. It came in a cooler with some ice pack/gel packs, which were completely soft and at room temperature. The bacon was in a separate plastic bag. The bag as well as the bacon itself were at absolute room temperature. This was obviously unsafe to eat. I called to ask for te-delivery and because of the delay, which was entirely their responsibility, I asked if it could be expedited to overnight delivery. They almost laughed when I asked if I could have an expedited delivery. They made a point of saying it might not be just two days but might be three days. I said that's a long time for a small cooler being delivered to summer hot temperatures. They did not acknowledge this. I first ordered from nueske's at least 20 to 30 years ago and always thought of them as a friendly and helpful company. I spoke to several different people on the phone and none of them seemed like they they cared at all about the faulty delivery. It would've been nice to have some small concession. If not expedited delivery, they could've pointed out that online there was a 15% discount in all orders and if I had requested a refund, I could've re-ordered with the discount. Or -they used to sometimes include a small bonus of some sort in the delivery. anything that acknowledged, they had made a bad delivery which caused the food not to arrive by the first it was being ordered for. But it was the uncaring attitude, completely unexpected from nueske's. I will not order from them again.

Brosig's Sweet Corn

On the way to the Michigan UP, as you pass north of Green Bay, you spot a sign that reads "Better…read moreBuy Brosig's" and a picture of an ear of corn. Good advice to be taken seriously by novice Wisconsin roadside corn buyers. During the peak corn harvest season of August through early September, you will see lots of fresh vegetable & corn signs pop up all over Wisconsin. These often lead you to gas stations, empty lots with tents and tables set up, or just a produce-laden pick-up truck with some shirtless, unshaven farmer guy with bad teeth. You have to be certain you get good corn. Some places don't let you pick through their corn and all you get is a "mystery bag" with a dozen ears for a certain $. Then you look later and find it's some dried-up horse-corn with withered tassels. Others have undersized and immature corn that is underdeveloped and flavorless. Now located in Crivitz (formerly in Pound, WI) Brosig's consistently has the freshest, biggest tri-color corn we've come across. They have a roadside location and a smaller one in a gas station parking lot a little farther north in the same town. On our way to Michigan and on the trip home, we always stop and get a bag of fresh Brosig's corn. Brosig's puts 13 to a bag themselves, but don't fear finding any bad corn in there! They also carry other fresh vegetables like giant bell peppers, 2-foot long zucchini, tomatoes, potatoes, leeks, and other locally grown farm goodies, most of which were picked the same day. The stand is right alongside US-141 in Crivitz, with a sign about 1/2-mile away. You'll be amazed at the volume of business Brosig's gets from passing tourists like us, as well as loyal locals. Pull over to the side of the road and check it out. The folks working at the farmstand have that honest-to-goodness, laid-back rural personality you find out there but rarely encounter in the city. Come by, get some corn or zucchini, chat with them, even ask them where they recommend going for the best fish fry or something.

There really isn't a lot of competition because Country Fresh Meats provides a superior product…read morethat my friends and neighbors may not want to pay for but do notice the exceptional quality of the meat. Country Fresh Meats can tell you exactly where their beef, pork and chicken products come from. And by that, I mean where the cows, pigs and chickens come from. There really is not a comparison to a regular grocery store. My wife and I went in today and bought two value boxes of meat. The first was a variety pack and for $140 we got 12 pounds of ground chuck, four thick-cut pork chops, two T-bone steaks a sirloin steak a pork butt roast country spareribs, two cut up chicken fryers one whole roasting chicken and two packages of drumettes. In addition, we got the two porterhouse two T-bone meat box for $65.99. I know that may seem like a lot of money, but meat overall is expensive and we have enough steak now, probably, leading into the winter. My favorite part about Country Fresh Meats is that we noticed the difference in the quality of the meat. Sometimes my wife in a moment of weakness will buy a couple of steaks from the local grocery store and she is always disappointed. Occasionally, she will buy some Bubba Burgers instead of the ground chuck burgers from Country Fresh Meats, and she is always disappointed. The only time we notice any amount of difference is when we buy meat boxes that come with frozen meat. They are still far superior to anything sold in the local grocery store, but it doesn't taste as good as when we grab a fresh steak out of the meat case I'll take that any day of the week. If you want quality and value, Country Fresh Meats should be your butcher of choice.
