This was to be for their regular delivery which I thought was two days but is actually three days. Because the product is perishable if you don't order by a certain time on Wednesday, the order won't go until the following week. Something to know if you need food more quickly. I was ordering for a birthday. Because I ordered on a Wednesday, the delivery didn't go out to the following Monday and didn't arrive till Wednesday. The order was for bacon. It came in a cooler with some ice pack/gel packs, which were completely soft and at room temperature. The bacon was in a separate plastic bag. The bag as well as the bacon itself were at absolute room temperature. This was obviously unsafe to eat. I called to ask for te-delivery and because of the delay, which was entirely their responsibility, I asked if it could be expedited to overnight delivery. They almost laughed when I asked if I could have an expedited delivery. They made a point of saying it might not be just two days but might be three days. I said that's a long time for a small cooler being delivered to summer hot temperatures. They did not acknowledge this. I first ordered from nueske's at least 20 to 30 years ago and always thought of them as a friendly and helpful company. I spoke to several different people on the phone and none of them seemed like they they cared at all about the faulty delivery. It would've been nice to have some small concession. If not expedited delivery, they could've pointed out that online there was a 15% discount in all orders and if I had requested a refund, I could've re-ordered with the discount. Or -they used to sometimes include a small bonus of some sort in the delivery. anything that acknowledged, they had made a bad delivery which caused the food not to arrive by the first it was being ordered for. But it was the uncaring attitude, completely unexpected from nueske's. I will not order from them again.

I'm up north away from my regular doctor and was recently diagnosed with an inguinal hernia. While shopping at Walmart in Antigo, I asked their pharmacy if they carried any type of support belt. They told me it was online only--but importantly, they pointed me to Lakeside Pharmacy and Grocery. That recommendation turned out to be a gift. I called Lakeside right from the Walmart parking lot and was greeted by Ann, whose voice alone set the tone--friendly, patient, and genuinely helpful. I explained what I was looking for, and without hesitation, she offered to go check in the back, bring an option up front, and have it waiting for me when I arrived. And she did exactly that. When I walked in, I was welcomed immediately and also met Brianna, who was also kind and attentive. Both Ann and Brianna made what could have been a frustrating situation feel easy, personal, and cared for. What stood out most was the sincerity. They spoke so highly of the owner, Pat, who has been serving the community for decades (25+ years from what I understand). That kind of pride in leadership--and the way it shows up through the staff--is something you just don't see very often anymore. In a world that feels increasingly automated and impersonal, Lakeside Pharmacy is the opposite. It's warm, it's genuine, and they truly care about the people who walk through their doors. This was my first visit--but absolutely not my last. If you're anywhere near Antigo, it is well worth going a block or two off the beaten path to experience what a hometown business should feel like. I have also never run into a problem on the pharmacy side. The bakery goods at Lakeside are delicious, and the meat is higher quality than what you can get at the bigger chain stores. While I myself do not drink alcohol, I've heard my dad praise their selection a few times now; apparently they have some stuff that's hard to find and at a reasonable price. For the more regular groceries, their selection includes a little variety of most things you might need, although their size limits them from more niche goods (although there is some of these as well) or extreme variety. It's also a local business, if you're a person who supports those.
