I had heard great things about this place and I had wanted to visit for years. I highly recommend visiting when its chilly or cold. Wolves do not like warm weather so do not visit when its warm. Today it was a chilly fall day. We were there an hour or so before they opened. I'd heard best to be in the first group to visit and we found it made a huge difference. We got to spend a good amount of time with several wolves. The volunteers were informative and we felt very safe. Recommend bringing spare shoes as we stepped in some ... poo. We both really enjoyed our visit and highly recommend it. They give discounts for military both active and vets, fire or medical professionals. We arrived way early so only car there for at least a half hour and the wolves all started howling and making puppy sounds. It was just the coolest moment. I will never forget. I am short so had trouble seeing any wolves because of the tall fence. But it was just magical. read more

Where else can you interact with wolves like this!? I'm so glad this place exists! Not only for visitors but the work they do for the wolves and foxes is incredible. They're literally saving lives. The first time I visited I arrived mid morning. The staff were extremely friendly and understanding in telling me that it was probably not worth it to pay to see the wolves due to the heat. They let me check them out from the elevated walkway to help me decide what I wanted to do. I ended up coming back early the next morning and it was a great decision. The wolves were a lot more active and it was well worth the money! I got lucky in one of the enclosures and one of the wolves spent a lot of time near me. The level of interactivity really depends on the day, the wolf, and sheer luck. This place is definitely worth visiting for anyone who loves wolves! read more

My visit to Wolf Creek will always stand out as one of my favorite memories. I was excited to learn there was such a place where one could go and see real live wolves and only a couple of hours from home. Upon arriving, I was ecstatic to immediately learn that - -even better - - we would be permitted to not only see them live and in-person but to go into their enclosures and actually interact with them and possibly touch them?! Wolves have always been my favorite animal and I've always been "drawn" to them...while I slept one night I dreamt of sitting amongst a small pack of wolves. This experience was literally a dream come true for me and I intend to visit again soon. Beyond my own excitement and amazement and curiosity and little nervousness about being in the midst of these beautiful, yet potentially dangerous but severely misunderstood, never-mean-to-be-domesticated creatures, I was extremely impressed and taken aback by the relationships and bonds between some of the wolves and their caretakers and staff. I felt a tremendous sense of satisfaction when I left that day in the knowledge that these animals had not only been rescued from many horrific situations and were now safe and being taken care of but were well loved. Always a good time at Wolf Creek Habitat! A bit of a drive for us, an Hour and a half. But we went in 2017 and decided to go again on 1/23. Took my mom for her 87th birthday. We loved it! Yes the area isnt huge, but these wolves are well taken care of and can't be released in to the wild. Many are rescues. What an amazing adventure! My squad of animal encounter enthusiasts were in the Louisville area for several experiences last week, but the visit to Wolf Creek Habitat was the highlight. Getting to meet these magnificent animals up close was more than we all had hoped for. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and they clearly love these animals with all their hearts. A wonderful group of people taking great care of a wonderful group of animals. The volunteers are beyond great people, and are sure to answer any questions you have about these beautiful wolves. We were able to spend a little over an hour visiting, petting, and generally loving on three packs of wolves. It was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we won't forget it any time soon. I can't encourage enough people to visit WCH - It can be free if you just want to observe, but you have to try the hands-on experience at least once. Each pack is different in its own way - one is more reserved, one is a little more playful, and one is just a party pack. Every wolf has his/her own way of viewing the people in the enclosure, and we were fortunate enough to visit on a day in the 30's, so they were very active and super playful. This was a really cool experience! On my way to the habitat, I had the mindset that I would just observe the wolves. But once I arrived, I changed my mind, and I'm glad I did! The wolves aren't as scary as you might think, and I surprisingly wasn't anxious at all about going into their sanctuary. The volunteers are super nice and knowledgeable. It was fun to interact with and pet the wolves - they really are sweet, misunderstood creatures! We went in small groups of 6 into two different packs, and spent about 20 minutes with each pack. We learned each wolf's name, and in those short 20 minutes their personalities really come out. Right now you don't need a reservation - it's first come, first served. I went on a Saturday morning and arrived at 10:30am when you can start lining up to go in, and was in the first group to go in. Make sure you read all the instructions on their website - you can't wear fur, loose clothing, etc. to interact with the wolves. If you enjoy animal encounters, you should not miss this! read more

If there were ever a time that I could give MORE than a 5 star rating, this would be the time. I was in Ohio for five days for business and one of the days there, after I had finished all that I had to do, I went back to my hotel realizing that there was nothing to do in the immediate area. I asked locals in the cafes nearby and the answers were all the same, "Bowling... movies..." BORING. So I looked up things animal related and came across this gem of a place. It was about a 2 hour drive away but I made the drive because I couldn't NOT go! There's a wolf refuge that I wanted to go to that I had added to my bucketlist, so why not head over to this one and cross off "Visit a Wolf Refuge/Habitat" from my bucketlist? A little bit of information for you to know before you visit. Check their website to see their hours; depending on the weather they may or may not be open or closing early. This is a family owned sanctuary and the family LIVE there, the wolves' home is their backyard. Be respectful. **It's FREE to view the wolves from the bridge/walkway! I made the decision to just view them from above but when I saw them, I couldn't help but pay3 the $30 fee to spend as much time as I wanted with them. SO worth it. Also, all the workers here are unpaid volunteers that genuinely care and love these wolves. Show them your appreciation as well. After going to their website, I found that there IS a dress code, so make sure you either read carefully here or visit their page for more information: - No flipflops! You must wear shoes that cover your toes. The wolves have gigantic and heavy paws, they can step on you and it WILL hurt. Depending on the weather, it's going to be muddy too, so you don't want doodoo in your toes because trust me, there's a lot of poop! (When I went, it was cold as balls and drizzling! Obviously the weather won't stop me!) - No tank tops or dresses! You want to be covered in case the wolves decide you look like something they want to climb on. Dresses can sway in the breeze or as you walk and will catch these wolves' attention. They WILL try to bite at it thinking it's a toy. - No shorts. You must wear long pants/be covered. - No necklaces or dangling jewelry or bracelets. I had a necklace and I had to put it into my shirt because anything shiny or dangling will catch their attention and they'll try to snatch it away lol. No seriously though. - No Camcorders, DSLRs, or any type of camera/recording device that can't fit into your pocket. Paid photographers get their own time to record/shoot a private photography session if they schedule in advance but regular tourists like us cannot bring them. They can't be held accountable for any damage your camera might receive if taken by the wolves and the family here don't want their wolves to be hurt by any of your equipment. I literally spent 4 hours here with a group of people. They volunteers led us in, introduced us to the pups (2 years old) there were about 5 of them. They pointed out who was who. One of them tried to steal my phone when I whipped it out for a photo so be careful! They're little thieves! There are these metal stage type things that the wolves like to lay on and that was where our group surrounded ourselves and the wolves hopped up, making their rounds to greet us (be aware... this involves TONS of licking!) One of them accidentally headbutted me in the nose but I played it off lol (secretly my eyes teared up because... they have a really strong head) There are several different sections that the wolves are broken up into for the sake of keeping them apart by leadership and also to separate the wild wolves from the human-raised wolves. We visited every single gate meeting the pups, meeting the Alpha and his mate, the rest, and also the wild wolves. Wolves that are found are brought here to live safely. I remember one thing that one of the volunteers told us and that was that they wanted to show us the wild wolves because they wanted us to know that the wolves that we see in movies are not the same as the wolves in real life. They aren't snarling, vicious creatures that will jump at any given movement. They keep to themselves, walking up to you when they're curious, and leave when they're finished. They will not fight unless provoked. Some of the wild wolves REALLY loved strawberries and candy corn so we were given handfuls to feed them and one of they really shy wild wolves came up to me and stayed near me! Two of the volunteers were so surprised to see it because they said that she never comes near people, but she ate from my hand and she kept coming back to me. It's love! I would have stayed longer but I had to drive the 2 hours back to Ohio to pick up my boyfriend so I'm very sad I couldn't spend my entire day there! But I will definitely be back and I will always always ALWAYS recommend this place to anyone and everyone. I honestly don't even know were to start with how amazing this place is. I have been on a lot of adventures, and this one has topped the list pretty high. My boyfriend told me about this place a couple of months ago, and it was promptly added to my bucket list of immediate things to cross off. We plugged it into the GPS this morning, and off we went. If there is anyway you can take 252 to get there then you absolutely should. It is a BEAUTIFUL and peaceful drive that winds you out of the city environment. The drive is roughly 45 minutes from Fairfield, so no matter where you live, if you are in the general vicinity you are pretty close. Word of warning, if you are using a GPS, and it tells you to turn into a very steep and scary looking driveway, don't do it... we ended up pulling down into someone's yard! We figured that since there was no signage we were in the wrong place, so we drove back up the steep and scary driveway a few more feet up the road. Aha! There's the sign I was looking for! When you are right next to the place, it actually has a sign that says, "Please don't stop or park on the road!" and it's posted for very good reason. If you were just driving along and saw this place you'd be mesmerized because you can see the wolves from the road!!! We tuned into the driveway, and I was half walking, half skipping so we could get inside this place to see those beautiful creatures. As you walk down a long driveway, you'll see giant dream catchers, and the porta potties. Then you head into a building that looks like a super long shed. If you want to see the wolves, they have an observation deck that puts you right above them all, and guess what??? It's FREE!!!! (but they do appreciate donations!) Now for the really cool part. If you didn't drive all the way down there just to look at them, you can actually INTERACT with the wolves. Meaning you get to GO INSIDE THEIR HABITAT AND TOUCH THEM!!!! See why it was up on my bucket list pretty high?? If you want to do the interaction, a guide takes you through, and it's only $20 per person. You also get a magnet as a souvenir! After we paid, we were taken out with a small group who had come to interact with the wolves as well. Now by small group, I mean literally. There was a total of 5 of us, plus the guide. AWESOME! she told us the rules, and informed us that we may get hugged, or kissed very thoroughly in the mouth. So unless we wanted a wolf tongue kiss we should keep our mouths closed when they approached us. We went into the first enclosure, and walked over to where 3 of them were laying. Right away we were greeted by kisses and tail wags. One of them even plopped down on his side for us to give him some belly rubs. It was crazy and amazing. They were so affectionate and incredibly friendly. There were a couple that she told us not to interact with, but the shy ones just minded their own business. I mean this is amazing, I'm talking about a wolf!!! Not a cute big ol fluffy doggie, but a WOLF!! Breath taking. After we had played with another set of wolves in that first enclosure, she walked us to the next, and there were two black and brown hybrids. The hybrid set was mixed with German Shepherd, and they were HUGE! They were so muscular and just incredibly beautiful. One of these girls was our hugger. As soon as we entered her enclosure, she ran up and threw her big ol paws over my shoulders and gave my face the biggest kiss it has ever received from an animal yet. (Ok, besides the cow at the lazy 5 ranch who slurped my face..) The guides didn't rush us, and they actually let us tell hem when we were ready to leave. They are in the process of building a teepee and once it's finished you can rent it out to spend the night. How cool would it be to hear them howling at night. Talk about an amazing Sunday. I hope you'll take the time to get out there too, and help support this amazing place. I'd love to go back through different times of the year to see how they act. Amazing. I went in January as a birthday gift and this was an awesome experience, and all the volunteers were very nice. The wolves were beautiful and it was a cool experience to pet them. The only thing I would change would be to provide them with much bigger enclosures, maybe with trees. I would also ask for stronger enforcement of the mask wearing policy, as we were with another family who wore them under their nose and it made it slightly uncomfortable. read more

Not like it used to be. Very disappointed on this visit. While waiting in line to enter someone broke something in the gift shop. Employee's first response was to shout "you break it, you buy it!" We came in 2018, visited 3 enclosures and interacted with 12-14 wolves. This time we were taken to 3 enclosures with 2 wolves each. The last enclosure included a wolf that was not socialized to humans. On our first visit we pet, posed with and gave belly runs to many wolves and watched them eat pumpkins. This time everyone sat in the wet mud and waited to see if a wolf walked past, you perhaps got a chance to pat it. Just like everything else, you are getting way less for more. Employees were herding everyone through as fast as possible so no one was turned away. When some members of a tour group with a different guide accidentally mixed with our group, the guide made fun of people who can't "follow simple directions." Tickets are now $50 each for a fraction of the experience. The first time it was worth the 6 hr drive from Illinois. But we no longer plan on gong back. read more

OMG OMG this is the most amazing thing you could do. We drove about an hour from Cincinnati. What is better than touching an actual IRL wolf? OMG I got in the pen with some wolfs. They were so cool. They look like dogs, but they don't look like dogs. They act like dogs, but they don't act like dogs. They're so amazing. I just went and I was quiet and I watched them do their wolf things. And I pet the ones who came over. Like what do you think, some wolves want to be pet. Well I've never been anywhere like this place. Even though you can go in with some wolves, for a fee, the people seem to have respect for these animals. Like I think people who have wolves for pets are idiots and I think people who have wolf hybrid dogs are idiots. I'm not one of those people. It's nice to have respect for the animals. We brought home some wolf hair and it made Yetta and Harvey mental. I'll definitely go back. It's so cool that I'll wear a howling wolf t-shirt without irony. read more

Be sure to go early in the morning vs. afternoon cuz the wolves are more active when it's cooler out. My husband and niece went in with them. BEST DAY EVER! Who wouldn't want to get to interact with wolves?! This place is truly a must see. My fiancé and I drove from Cincinnati, which took about an hour but I would have driven any distance for this experience. You can go up on the deck overseeing all of the wolves for as long as you want for free. But interacting with them is the best part and it was only $30. We got to go into 3 separate enclosures. The first had about 7 or 8 young wolves which was my personal favorite. These guys get so excited to see people and they love getting pet! When we first walked in we had two wolves come over to greet us. Then we headed over to the wooden platform. The wolves can jump up onto it so they can be higher and you can interact with them easier. There was only one other couple in there with us and our guide at the time. We all stood around the platform and the wolves made their rounds to each person giving them kisses and pawing at you trying to get you to pet them it was so cute. They had been bottle fed since they were born and have had a lot of interaction with humans so they were super friendly. We got to stay with them for quite a while until we left and went into the next enclosure. The second enclosure had one wolf and one wolf-dog hybrid. They were very active and friendly as well. And the third enclosure had four of the older wolves in it. We were only allowed to interact with two of these, the other two stayed away. The two we did get to interact with were not as interested as the younger wolves but they still enjoyed a little bit of affection. I would definitely recommend going on a cooler day when the wolves are more active. The day we went it was sunny and around 60 degrees so many of the wolves were napping. But it was still an incredible experience and I would definitely recommend! I know that I will be returning again! read more

My mom, Jane Marlowe had been suffering from Lung Cancer for almost three years. She put up one heck of a fight. We lived in different states and I have spent about half of the last three years visiting her and going with her through her treatments. She loved life so much. She was an amazing artist. I honestly think she could have made a living with all her artistic abilities. She could paint, do crafts and cook delicious foods. She was passionate about her religion and animals. After putting up the strongest fight that I have ever witnessed, she started going down hill with no chance of getting better for a while this time. So, they put her in Hospice. She called me one day and said a nurse had asked her if there is anything she wished she would have done. My mom said she told her, her entire life she has wanted to howl with the wolves. May sound funny or strange, but she did so loves wolves. When she was telling me the story, I was thinking wow, this is her bucket list and how in the world am I going to be able to make this happen? I started calling all over the USA with no luck. I was actually losing hope. Then, I received an email from Kathy Baudendistel at the Wolf Creek Habitat in Brookville, Indiana. We talked for a while and I explained to her about my mom. I told her that my mom wasn't able to travel. Kathy never even hesitated. She said that they have just had a litter of wolf cubs and she would be happy to bring one when it gets older to visit my mom. WOW!!! I thought, could this really be happening? Can my mom's bucket list wish really come true? Then, my stomach kinda sank when I wondered if she could even possibly make it until the the wolf was old enough. Then, I thought, her wish is to howl with one. This one is just going to be very young, can it howl, will it howl? This now, was my mom's motivation to keep fighting a while more. Every time we talked on the computer or phone, she would ask me, are they still bringing the wolf, and she herself had expressed she didn't think it would be able to howl. Well, I thought, at least she will hold an actual wolf. I had made plans to visit my mom again and during that time, is when Kathy had said she could bring the wolf cub. The day has finally arrived. Kathy and her kind associate, Julie both showed up at my mom's house. My mom hadn't been doing very well at all. She hadn't been eating, talking very much, was in immense pain that morphine wasn't even helping in the slightest. Then, when Kathy and Julie brought in the cub, my mom's entire demeanor changed!! All of the sudden, for the first time, my mom was actually glowing! They brought in this incredibly beautiful cub. My mom reached out and they put it in her lap. Mom started howling but the cub had other plans. Kathy and Julie had just driven 2.5 hours and that little wolf wanted to play. Mom kept smelling him saying she loved how it smelled and had no idea it would smell like that. Then, she started howling again. Even Kathy and Julie weren't really sure the pup was ready to howl, but, my mom just kept howling away. Then, the cub started howling with my mom!! During their visit, the wolf howled about five times with my mom and she got to hold it. At one point, I look and my mom had gotten down on the floor to play with it. Now this is a woman with no energy, not hardly moving and she just jumped on the floor. Seeing my mom, watching my mom with the wolf the emotions I felt were nothing I had felt before. Just knowing, the ONE thing she wanted to do before she passed away, was actually happening in front of me and my mom looked like a little girl on Christmas day. I felt so so very grateful for the kindness from Kathy and Julie. They were sweet towards my mom. They went over and beyond anything I could have ever wished for.
