The temperature cooled in the last few days so fishing was tough. Bob did all he could to put us on fish but the fish were not on the feed. Past the time we should have gone back, Bob took us into a shallow back bay as the sun dipped down and told me to cast into a side channel. Bam! I caught a healthy sized striper. He had hooked one for my girlfriend earlier. With Bob, it's not just the fishing. He gives tours and he weaves that into the guided trip. His great sense of humor and genuine desire to put his clients on fish really sets him apart from a lot of guides I've had. My sister surprised me with a birthday sunset cruise with Bob at Wombat Charters! I had no idea what to expect since it was a surprise but she knows how much I love nature and outdoor adventures and this one tops it! On a private tour on Bobs boat, we ventured out from Napa all the way out to Wingo (ghost town). We saw wildlife, plants, flocks of birds, old duck clubs from the 1920's, sunsets, pink skies, stars. It was beautiful and serene. We were the only ones out there in San Pablo bay and it was so peaceful. If you enjoy nature, this tour gives you a different perspective from the comfort of a boat. The sunset boat tour is one not to miss. I will be back again to do another tour! PS: Dress warm and in layers (depends on time of year). For my birthday and my son's birthday, they are the same day, this year my wife bought us fishing trip with Captain Bob. This was the most amazing adventure we had all year! My party of 4 participated in the Napa River (or, as you'll learn its more wetlands) sunset cruise on a clear Saturday night. Capt. Bob communicated very well to us beforehand to bring layers to stay warm, and also encouraged us to bring drinks and snacks if we so fancied. Capt. Bob is very knowledgeable about the area and always keeping the customer in mind - thinking of different photo ops and also providing playful props :) While the trip is marketed as 90 minutes, plan for closer to 120-160 minutes to enjoy the full spectrum of the sunset. As a family of four with two teenage boys, I was looking for things to do that didn't involve wine drinking. We joined Aussie Bob on his charter for the sunset cruise through the Napa River and marsh and wetlands. Captain Bob provides an informative tour of the area, points out wildlife and shares historical information. We got to see the pair of Red-tail Hawks and Horned Owls that have inhabited a specific grove of trees. Great views and beautiful sunset photo shots. We brought our sandwiches, cheese and crackers and stopped to eat our dinner. It was a highlight of our trip to Napa area and a nice way to see a different perspective of the area and my teens enjoyed it. Captain Bob prepares you well and tells you what to bring. Layers of clothing are key because temperatures vary through the wetlands/marshland. He also does fishing charters which is very popular. We enjoyed our tour and got some amazing photos. Outstanding Day on the Napa River!!!! My family and I had an outstanding day on the Napa River with Capt Bob a few weeks back. It was our first time to venture onto the Napa River being new to the area. I asked for a tour and fishing themed experience for my 5 and 15 year old daughters and Capt Bob did not disappoint. Each stretch of the river he shared information about the area, history, ship wrecks, etc. We learned about the different species of fish and techniques for catching them. While mostly focused on the tour, we did drop anchor 3 times and were able to get on some fish. We brought home one nice stripper for dinner, delicious! I think the highlight for us was watching our 15 year old learn about navigating a boat. I have to share with everyone reading this post that the good Capt truly cares about the experience and safety. The night before our trip, Capt Bob emailed me to let me know it would be too dangerous to take us the next day because of high winds. He immediately offered a full refund and was very sincere about wanting to make sure we had a safe and enjoyable trip. I told him I did not want to get a refund and asked him to get back to me with some other dates. He stayed in contact with me pretty much every day until we could get back on the schedule. This past weekend I took a very relaxing and romantic boat ride down the Napa river with Captain Bob who was a great guide. I initially called about the sunset tour but it was booked up for the day so we opted for the day time tour. That was a great decision. It was still nice and warm on the water. I look forward to taking more tours soon, I want to take the fishing tour next.
