So, instead of our usual family trip to another country or state this summer, we decided to become tourists in our own backyard and booked an eight-hour San Francisco Alcatraz + City Tour, including Muir Woods and Sausalito. The tour cost $179 per adult (nine of us) and $169 for one child, and we even booked a hotel nearby the night before to make sure we'd be on time for our 9am start. We all met beneath the iconic Fisherman's Wharf sign, where Patrick was our guy! Patrick was knowledgeable, witty, and engaging--he kept us entertained with fascinating facts about San Francisco, fun trivia questions, and even handed out Ghirardelli chocolate as prizes. My man and I answered so many questions that we ended up with almost half the bag! Even though we were a bit hungover from pub crawling the night before, Patrick's energy kept us awake and involved. He thoughtfully included the three kids in our group, telling them to count Priuses on the street and quizzing them with their own set of trivia. Along the way, he pointed out some quirky facts, like there being more dogs than babies in San Francisco, and made sure everyone felt part of the experience. Patrick pointed out several billionaires' homes, as well as highlights like Chinatown and Japantown. We made a memorable stop at the Presidio and Fort Point for stunning views and photos of the Golden Gate Bridge. Patrick even volunteered to take group pictures for us and made sure we had time for restroom breaks. After crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, we made our way to Muir Woods. Though we only had an hour and a half--just enough time for my older siblings--my man and I left wanting more, wishing we could explore beyond the designated paths. The towering redwoods, some between 400 and 800 years old, were awe-inspiring. I'm sure there were even more breathtaking sights we didn't have a chance to see. Next, Patrick took us on a drive through Sausalito, pointing out popular restaurants and an old recording studio once frequented by celebrities. After dropping off a few tourists, he guided us to the starting point for our Alcatraz Tour and left us at Fisherman's Wharf for lunch. We felt a little sad knowing it was the last time we'd see him--at that point, we were on our own for the rest of the adventure. Although I've visited San Francisco many times--unlike my siblings--I still learned so much from the tour. We all had a great time, even my man who lived in the city for several years. While I initially thought the price was steep, by the end of the day, it felt completely worth it!

You get an incredible amount of value for the price, and it's a great way to get your bearings before exploring the city on your own. I'd recommend keeping notes of the places and recommendations your guide mentions so you can revisit them later. One thing that really stood out was the customer service. My original booking didn't meet the minimum group size, so I was moved to a different tour. Unfortunately, that caused me to arrive late, but the guide was incredibly gracious and made me feel welcome without any hassle. Whether you're traveling solo, with a partner, or as a family, I'd absolutely recommend this tour. It's one of the best ways to kick off a trip to San Francisco.

Pros: + The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. + Once you get on the island and go through the 5 minute orientation from the NPS ranger, you're free to roam about. + The audio-guided tour is actually REALLY good. It was my first time and I thought it would be cheesy but it was engrossing and informative. + Restrooms were very clean and not crowded (at least not the guy's restroom). + There are some truly AMAZING views of the bay. Bring a travel-safe camera. Neutral: ~ There's restrictions on food and drink (only bottled water is allowed in the majority of the park). So plan ahead. ~ San Francisco traffic is real and kinda sucks. Plan ahead for delays. ~ A good portion of the park is outdoors (which isn't a negative but means that it's impacted by the weather). It gets super windy so plan ahead and dress appropriately. Cons: - The price is indeed a little high. I don't think I'd go here all the time. Once every couple years is probably fine. - A friend told me that there's a LOT of bird poop around and they were right. It's not enough to impact walking but does detract from the experience slightly.

Poor Service Experience with Alcatraz City Cruises…read more I'm writing this review to share my experience with the company's customer service, specifically around their cancellation policy. We were excited to book a trip through Alcatraz City Cruises on 6/16/26. Unfortunately, a family emergency forced me to cancel our trip to San Francisco, including this tour. I cancelled through the confirmation link in my email on 6/19 -- well within the 72-hour window required for a full refund, since the event itself wasn't until 6/26. The website showed my reservation as cancelled, so I stepped away to deal with the family emergency. In my rush, I never went back to check for a separate cancellation confirmation email, since the site had already shown the cancellation as complete. That was my mistake -- but it led to a frustrating outcome: I was charged for the tickets on the day of the event anyway. I didn't catch the charge until I reviewed my bank statement at the start of the following month. I called four times and couldn't reach a live person. When I finally got through to a representative, my request for a refund was denied. I asked again for the decision to be reviewed, but the agent refused, saying they would not look into it further. I understand that not confirming the cancellation via email was an oversight on my part. But the website clearly showed the reservation as cancelled, and we never used the tickets. Given that the cancellation was initiated well within the refund window, I would have expected more flexibility from customer service -- not an automatic denial. Dissapointed in this company and would not book through them again. Unfortantely, they did come up as one of the recommended companies to book through due to other scams and fake sites, but beware

Very knowledgeable, extremely easy to talk to, and more than happy to play photographer. We saw Coit tower, the Golden Gate Bridge, the place that I swear was Naboo in Star Wars, some random local know spot with an amazing view of the city, and drove through pretty much all the neighborhoods while Chad pointed out what he recommended we check out. The tour was about 3 hours long and came with bathroom stops at photo locations. If you are looking for a way to see everything without having to plan it yourself or rent a car during your trip, this is what to do. You won't be disappointed.

Adult membership is $91 and Senior is $81 so not much of a discount even though his is paid for by Kaiser. They have free resistance band workout every other Wednesday at the Union Square plaza at 8am. It's a free class and the instructor is nice.

Strawberry Hills gives a nice overview of the lake beneath as you walk up the hill. At the top, you get a pretty overlook of SF city. Image attached below. Definitely check out Strawberry Hills when you're in GG Park. And, if also chasing for waterfalls, definitely check out "Rainbow Falls". It is very beautiful as well.

Awesome boat tour! Captain Charles took us into McCovey Cove while the Giants were playing, that in itself was such a highlight, but it did not end there. It was two hours of endless entertainment. How could a beautiful day on the water be bad, right?!? We were supplied weather gear for water, which we did utilize. Charles was the perfect guide, telling us stories about the different spots of interest. We found out where the Transbay Tube crosses the Bay, saw all sorts of water wildlife, all sides of Alcatraz, most of the Piers in San Francisco, both bridges, heard bridge secrets, Coast Guard point, etc. High entertainment value!!! read more

My boyfriend and I were in the city celebrating an early Valentines and had a great time on the Bay Voyager. I know the price is steep compared to other bay tours, but it was completely worth it! We had an intimate experience, with just four total passengers in addition to the 2 captains. Captain Charles was knowledgeable and took his time to make sure we were having a great experience. He even let me borrow his sunscreen :) For the first 30 minutes I could not stop smiling because the wind and sun felt so great on my face. This was a day I'll never forget! I must admit I don't normally like being on the water since I get sea sick on dining cruises. Boy was I wrong when I took a cruise with the Bay Voyager RIB boat. This cruise is like an open convertible ride on the bay. Not only did I get some of the best views in town but we were able to see a ton of wildlife and historic landmarks. The only other way to get views this good would be to charter a private helicopter ($$$) but then you wouldn't be able to go up close to the seals or go under the Golden Gate Bridge. My fiancé and I boarded the Bay Voyager not expecting to be so well taken cared of! Captain Charles was able to reveal a safe and exclusive experience to the San Francisco waters. I love that there was absolutely no rush to cut off time! I know the difference from when someone wants to just do the job and get it over with but the Captain truly wanted all 12 of us to have a memorable time! Such a beautiful time! Charles was a spectacular guide and captain. As a native, he knows the area and the history. He pointed out many landmarks complete with stories and details. He absolutely has the personality for this job. You can tell he loves what he does. The ride was fantastic - a good day to be out on the water. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. This is a must if you really want to see the bay on the water. It's up close and personal:) There is nothing like it in the bay area other than having your own boat. Charles and his wife are fun, extremely knowledgeable and truly love what they do and is reflected from the moment you meet them until you get off the boat. Amazing experience even for a local Bay Area resident. Views of the city and bridges in the evening light is phenomenally beautiful. Captain Charles is experienced and thoughtful and will make sure everyone has an unforgettable experience. The beer tour was especially fun , Heinolds bar is funky and steeped in local history and the Oakland port is fascinating with all the cranes and HUGE cargo ships. Talk about a blast!! Went out on the 4th of July, saw whales under the Golden Gate Bridge, learned a whole bunch about SF and the surrounding waterfront and Charles is a great captain. Here's the kicker, it was a bit choppy that day with a good head wind going out to the bridge and the boat cut through it like its was butter. Who knew?? We have had tours over the past 20 years in kayaks, yachts, sail boats and power boats and none compares in terms of the experience than the rigid flat bottom "Navy Seal" boat that Bay Voyager has to explore the Bay environs. You get ample chance to work on "grinders" when sails have to unfurled and / or adjusted. Crew is very friendly and humors all naive sailing related questions without snickering. We were also lucky with co operating weather - high tide co in coding with same wind direction. Main attraction was the fact that it was a racing boat. I was skeptical about how much of "racing" experience I was going to get. As we got on the boat, instructions were given. When they say "boat will tilt 30°", they mean it! And thanks to colleague's app, we could verify that speed while going against the wind was around 5 miles/hr but along with the wind while coming back was almost 14 miles / hour. That was mind boggling! Will definitely do the excursion again.

Not set route...it's where ever the winds take us. Headed out of Pier 31 to the East side of Alcatraz Island, out towards the Golden Gate Bridge...we even went outside the gate and back around. Be sure to have your cameras ready for photo opportunities because you wont see these sights from land. Not only do you get to sail on an America Cup's vessel USA 76, you have opportunity to take the helm and steer the vessel n set the sails throughout the trip. Besides the scenery and being on the water, passenger participation is what really makes this adventure fun. Weather was perfect...little overcast, got some rain and the sun popping through the clouds ever so often. If you didnt bring a heavy enough jacket, they will provide. Dont be afraid of getting motion sickness...it's all good. Special shout-out to my friend Bernadette for booking this excursion. She is one of the Concierges at the Argonaut Hotel.

Apparently they try to avoid using the antique boat on the weekends, so we were put on a water taxi. I was pretty bummed that they only use the actual boat on weekdays. Nevertheless, it's a quick 30 minute ride to the sea lions, and WWII ship. The captain briefly talks about the Alcatraz island, but we were quite far from it so don't expect it to come close to the actual island. He was quite knowledgeable and engaged in conversations with the passengers. He also got us pretty wet with the water splashing into the boat, which was quite fun! If you get seasick easily, this might not be for you. The boat is quite small so you would end up feeling the swells a lot more than in a regular sized boat. Note: You don't wear life jackets for the entire ride, due to sanitization costs. You get to use it for FREE if somehow the boat starts to sink. Stating this on here, because I saw some people get off when they found out lifejackets weren't given out. I don't think they got reimbursed either.

Drew…read morewas very responsive helping get this organized and all the paperwork filled out in advance. Great rendezvous location down by Oracle Park was super convenient for everyone. One we got underway, Drew and the crew were phenomenal at getting everyone comfortable to enjoy a fantastic two hour sail around the Bay. We had a great time and were able to catch some gusty winds that day once they put up the spinnaker. For this trip we went out around Treasure Island, under the new section of the Bay Bridge and further south, then back up along the city for some fantastic views. Everyone enjoyed our sailing event! Pro tip: If you want to sail out to Golden Gate Bridge, let them know when booking so you can organize an earlier departure than 2:00pm.
