Wow!! This was Korean BBQ at a whole new level.. I expected it to be similar to Toronto but boy was I wrong. In Toronto I was never really a fan and didnt make my way out to this type of dinner very offten. I always seemed to find the food to be a bit blan. I was very shocked at how the servers actually waited on us the entire time cooking our food for us. This doesnt happen in Toronto which I find funny considering they actually work for TIPs and in Australia they dont. My friend took charge in ordering the meal. It was a shared meat platter with everything you could ask for.. beef, chicken, pork belly (which for the record i didnt try) and a ton of sides to go with it. We also got a cheesy corn dish as well. Everything was good and I have no complaints. Now what shocked me is the letus my friend asked for. She explained that I am to place the meat, sause and sides in the middle and roll it up like a wrap and eat it. This blew my mind!! I have never experiences this on this level and it changed my take on this cusine 100%. The atmospher was nice and like I mentioned before service was on top of their game.. I would happily recomend this place to anyone feeling in the Korean mood.

With an array of choices for a good Korean BBQ in Strathfield, we decided to give Won Jo a go. It wasn't exactly a decision but a mere random walk-ins of the closest Korean BBQ to our parked car just because there were so many of them we couldn't decide. The place was empty, it was lunch time on a Monday Public Holiday. There were only three tables filled, which eventually grew to six tables by the end of our meal. Small plates, cups, water jug and cutleries are ready at your table. The problem was there were only 2 plates and 2 cups when it's a 4 seat table and the water jug was half empty, I supposed they forgot to refill it after the last customer. Service was basic and good luck in getting the staff to notice you. If you want to grab the staff's attention you need to do something obvious when the staff walked past or shout 'excuse me' really loud. They have extensive meat selections and set menus for BBQ-ers, which I was excited about, and great selections of hot pot and stews. We opted for Ox Tongue, Bulgogi which was nicely marinated and some mushrooms to BBQ. We also had the Sweet & Spicy Fried Chicken and it was exactly as it should be, sweet, sticky and spicy. The Banchan or Korean side dishes were not as many as other Korean BBQ places I've been to, but they were tasty. My favourite was the Cheesy Corn. I find their price is reasonable. $62 feeds a family of four and I was so full I had to doggy bag some of the fried chicken. And the food definitely made up for the slow service.

I usually prefer my beef medium rare, but it got mixed with the pork, so everything got cooked well done. If my beef was cooked medium rare, this would probably be a 5 star review. Sirloin Beef $39 AUD - Beautifully marbled. Marinated Beef Ribs $36AUD - This was good and had generous meat. We ordered too much meat, but amazingly we finished it all, so it had to have been really good. Cheese Corn Side Dish - Okay, too cheesy for me. I bet very few people say that, lol. Tofu Side Dish - I am not a tofu or soup person, so I did not try. They have both Korean and Australian beers, thank you. I chose to drink the local beers, as the Korean brand beers were the same as the U.S. Support locals. Atmosphere - Small local restaurant. Indoor/outdoor seating were very limited. Semi-open kitchen, see picture. You will be crammed in to maximize space. Open 7 days a week from 11am to 10:30pm. Not sure if they have bathrooms; sorry I can not remember and I did not take a picture. Service - Full service. They actually cook the food for you at your table. Both the owner and waiter cooked for us. I really appreciated that. But I am also sure they do that to turn the tables faster, good business practice. Win/win. Price - See menu, Korean foods are always a little on the expensive side, but when you take into consideration the current US exchange rate, it was a sale for us. :) Owner Comment - Congrats on your success.

So much beer…read more Red Pepper Bistro is in Strathfield Sports Club, you will need ID to enter if you are an adult (although it isn't the most strict policy) and the tables are fairly simply laid out. Make sure to get there before 7pm as it does get very busy. If you have a big group you can make a reservation, but also we were able to ask one of the staff and they organized more chairs and joined tables for us. All the chicken is good, tender long is probably my favorite, sweet+spicy is also up there. But at the same time I always order a variety. Also warning, the hot+spicy is _very_ hot and spicy, but it is still tasty :) There is more than just chicken, plus it looked like there was small selection of vegetarian options. Price-wise, the chicken feels a little expensive. The price range was ~$17 for a half service and ~$32 for a full serve. Drinks are fairly cheap, they had various beer bucket deals, 5x$20 Coors, 4x$20 Crown Lager, they also had a few good beers and kopparberg on tap (around $5-6), plus everything else you would usually find in a standard RSL-type bar (spirits, beer jugs, etc). It is quite kid friendly, they have high-chairs and a playground around the side. Plus space around the tables to squeeze in a pram/stroller. There is a small parking lot around the back plus street parking. But it fills up pretty quickly.

When I moved to Sydney, I…read moreheard all about Strathfield and was excited that this seemed to be the closest thing to Koreatown back in LA. I came out here on a Tuesday for lunch after seeing raves about Hansang all over TikTok, but I was mostly let down by the food quality. For my first time in Strathfield, it didn't leave an impression on me and left me wanting ... better Korean food. I got the seafood tofu stew and was extremely disappointed by the flavors in it. The picture on the menu, which was loaded with seafood, looked nothing like the reality of the stew-- which honestly wouldn't have been a problem if the flavors didn't feel so off to me. Upon first spoonful, you just get hit with the taste of garlic (which is odd to me because I love tofu stew but never notice the garlic flavor of the ones I get back in LA's Koreatown). Flavors were forgettable and the soup was simply bland with a side of garlic. If you're used to BCD Tofu House quality stew, forget it. You're better off ordering something else from the menu-- although my friend also remarked her soup was nothing special either. I wouldn't have left a review like this if it weren't for the prices. As soon as I opened the menu, I noticed that a lot of the stew/soup/dishes were similar prices. That might not seem odd to some, but as someone that grew up around authentic Korean food, I can tell you you're being scammed. There is no world in which you should be paying $20+ for a kimchi pancake (even in AUD). Sullungtang was also extremely overpriced for what it is. Charging for extra side dishes, too? Crazy. Take your money elsewhere. I refuse to believe this is the most authentic Korean food you will find in Sydney's proclaimed Koreatown.

I enjoyed myself here. The food was decent; it didn't blow your mind but would go back again…read more Definitely go here if you want some tasty Korean food.

Don't let the entry fool you, you'll have to take the elevator up to the second floor to access this restaurant. While you progress to your table you'll pass by a showcase of varied meats a lot of which is Wagyu! The displays were clean and well organized surely to amp up your appetite. In a glass room you'll notice one of the chefs operating a meat slicer as the meat is cut fresh upon ordering. As I'm sure some of you Korean BBQ fanatics have experienced some restaurants have pre portioned frozen meats. Don't skimp out on this restaurant, the food quality is high so make the most of it! While honeymooning in Sydney my wife and I were on the hunt for "Yangnyeom Gejang". Neither my wife nor I are Korean but "Yangnyeom Gejang" is Spicy Marinated Raw Crab. If you've never tried it and are open minded seriously give it a try as its not readily available. The crab dish was extremely well portioned and makes for a great side dish/appetizer. The banchan was superb and you'll be offered a variety of side dishes to accompany your meal. Aside from the raw crab we ordered Wagyu Beef Tongue, Galbi, and Pork belly! All of which satisfied us and we were well satiated! Whether you're just visiting or a local resident I HIGHLY recommend Jang Ta Bal for your next Korean BBQ venture!
