I had a lovely afternoon after my long flight from Chicago, sitting with Vera and Faye, drinking coffee, munching cookies, and painting my bowl. The shop itself is adorable, with a nice cafe up front, gifts to buy, and an open airy studio in back. Faye and Vera are wonderful people and really made me feel welcome and well cared for. They were attentive to all of their costumers and the work space had a friendly, welcoming vibe. I painted a nice bowl, which was a perfect keepsake for my trip to London. The food is mediocre at best, but often pretty revolting; and more disturbingly one is confronted by the 'art' wherever you look. I'm no prude, but the art here is essentially women, naked, and LOTS of them. Everywhere you look there are pudenda and breasts gazing back at you! OK, nothing wrong with the naked body, it's often very beautiful, but to be this obsessed with naked women hints at a bit of a problem to me. Why isn't there any other art? Why are there no naked male models? Why do I have to look at these boobs and genitalia for an hour whilst eating my lunch?? You order at the counter but they come over and give you table service from that point. The service is always friendly. There is a large plasma tv in the corner which usually is showing sky news. There are four large leather sofas at the front of the cafe so if you fancy a relaxing place to grab a quick cuppa, this is far cheaper and more comfortable than most! In my opinion, this place is an undiscovered gem of a cafe.
