What matters to me is that we were travelling from Hilo down to the green and black sand beaches and "somehow" I may have made a tactical error regarding how much gas the car had and the extreme lack of availability anywhere close by. I mean the nearest station coming from Hilo is....40 miles away in Volcano? Either way, this place was very open and it saved my bacon. Simple and clean four pump setup. This is very much an easy off/on route 11. I was going to go inside and pickup a provision or two but refrained only because the inside had quite a few people browsing, checking out and hanging out. The pricing is what it is when you're visiting Hawaii. You need to suspend reality on that one until returning home. Overall, this place is a nice oasis in an otherwise dry desert of choices.

We knew she was 400 miles off the coast but she was big and angry. We couldn't risk running out of fuel. We were pleasantly surprised at the fuel prices here on the Big Island. The gas prices were about $1.00 more than we pay on the mainland where we live. This place was busy. More busy than normal because of Lala but there was no line's and it wasn't crazy people. Easy lot to get in and out and they have drinks and snacks for purchase. On our way home we drove past the gas station closer to Wally Mart and it was a zoo at best.

Like seriously you can't even see the drop down as you push your car over the edge. If somebody is coming up from the other direction you are pretty much screwed. It was really quite terrifying. The card reader at the pump looked super sketchy so I went inside to pay, not wanting to expose my card to whatever virus the reader might hold. The wife needed to use the restroom and was told there was a port a potty out back so off she went. She looked pale and shaken when she got back into the Jeep. When I opened my mouth to speak she just shook her head and said, "Don't ask. Just drive." Later on she confessed to me that it was the nastiest port a potty she had ever seen, bar none. As we left I noticed another fuel stop across the street a few hundred feet down the road. I'll probably give that one a try next time.

When checking in & searching on smart phone though, the location shows as being 4 miles away. Four stars is relative to the area so please don't be hating. I would definitely visit here again. The actual location is across the street from Prince Kuhio blvd. on the left or north side if you're driving from Kona or right side if you are driving from Hilo.

The BIG lady (she can't be missed) came out extremely hostile and territorial like a dog asking why we were parked there after we had purchased something. We informed her we had just purchased something and were collecting ourselves before hitting the road. I informed her we could leave if it bothered her. Her attitude and emotional regulation were so poor, she quickly escalated and started threatening to call the police because it was "private property" after I told her she could have just calmly told us paying customers to leave. She proceeded to insult me and called me a bitch after I did not allow her to disrespect me. Anyway, she wasn't very aloha to say the least. I can't imagine how she treats other employees. The offering of local tropical flowers may be the best part of their inventory. They are beautiful and inexpensive. Inside, the inventory is lacking and pricy. The aisles are tight and with some shelves half empty. They have a decent, but pricy, selection of wine, spirits and beer. Then there is a limited selection of various household needs. I have never found what I was looking for on two visits. The staff is friendly. And the place has a lot of good character. But they need to ramp up the inventory.

I picked up the bulgogi, and it was still warm when I got it. We ended up eating at one of the tables outside the convenience store and were honestly surprised by how good it was! We were starving, and it definitely did the job. Our hotel was still about 30 minutes away, so if you're coming from the airport and need food ASAP, this is a solid stop. Nothing super fancy, but the food was good and hit the spot!
