I paid this attorney for $365 with any other fee. They said they appeared but they said I still have to pay DMV $382 and traffic school. Clearly my case didn't get dismissed or reduced to no point. I asked them for documentations or paper work for what happen in court and they replied next time. I guess I will never know what happened in court. Research your attorneys first before paying. I originally retained another attorney, but they went silent and never confirmed they had resolved my ticket, leaving me in a panic to find someone last minute. Just one day before my traffic violation was due, I reached out to John, and he returned my call within minutes. From the start, John was proactive and professional. He immediately requested a new court date and later pushed out the court date a couple of times (the ticket was issued in April, and the final court date was in December). Although the ticket wasn't dismissed (I was speeding, and the officer appeared in court), John handled everything for me and made the process very easy. I would see a "deer in the headlights" glazed eyes blank stare while I was conveying specifics of my case followed by legal advice that corroborated that he either didn't hear or misunderstood many of the specifics of what I was telling him. Mr Martin would go a week or more at a time without responding to questions that I asked over email. At one point, I asked Mr Martin in-person in his office why he didn't respond to my emails, he smirked and joked that he liked my "long emails, because they give me a lot of content to use for calculating billable hours." But, somehow, he seemed unaware of the details in the content when giving me legal advice, which was more troublesome than his glee in being able to rack up billable hours. I'm happy to pay someone handsome fees for fine work. That's when I realized I needed to look for a new attorney, which I did. But a lot of irreparable damage had already been done to my divorce and child custody case due to lack of attention, focus, and poor counsel received in the earliest days of my divorce case. My divorce case was complex. Your experience may vary. Edit: I later learned that Joshua Martin's paralegal is a former attorney from Cincinnati, Ohio who moved to the central coast of California after dishonorably losing his attorney's license in Ohio, per widely available court documents from Ohio Supreme Court. I don't want to shed light into that on here more than necessary to help other other parents make better informed decisions when assessing the family law attorneys available for hire in SLO County. Please read Ohio Supreme Court's documents by searching 'Michael Elliott Finucane divorce attorney and misconduct per Ohio Supreme Court' for more information on Joshua Martin's paralegal who was formerly an attorney. Specifically, Ohio Supreme Court states that "misconduct that resulted in this acceptance of respondent's [Michael Elliott Finucane] resignation [from the Ohio State Bar Association] with discipline pending". Mr Joshua Martin is a smart fellow. He hired a dishonored former attorney to be his paralegal. I believe I should have been made aware of the legal troubles of Mr Joshua Martin's paralegal while in my initial consultation.
