I ordered a block of carving wood 4x6x18 and it arrived slightly damaged. I emailed the company and sent pictures, but I told them I was not looking to return it, I just wanted them to know it came damaged. Without even asking I was sent another block of wood. This store is much larger than i expected. They have a large selection of items and they offer a large variety of classes for people. I signed up to take the knife making class in April. I will do a follow up review after the class. Definitely a good place to go for new or veteran wood workers. read more

Woodcraft - Hobby Shops Near Me - Glen Allen, Virginia

I hadn't been to a Woodcraft store in years because it tends to be on the opposite end of town from wherever I am and because the merchandise they carry is often a little out of my range. I've been going to this one since we moved to Virginia and I have to say that everyone I've met there has been extremely helpful and friendly and they've consistently helped me out. I still find myself frequently at the Lowe's by my house looking for a more basic solution, but when I do need something that's a cut above I'm happy to go to Woodcraft for it. I'm waiting for them to open today to go get a specialty router bit I need and I know that they'll have. I haven't had to return anything so I can't speak to the ease of that process, but I haven't run into any of the negativity that I've seen a few other reviews mention. I'm not a big yelp user and am leaving this review primarily because I saw those and I felt like they were way off the mark. At least for me, who has only been shopping here a few months, this store and its employees have been consistently solid. read more

On 11/5/25 I returned merchandise valued at $48.74. When I noticed later that day the money didn't hit my account, I contacted the store, and was advised I'd receive a call back. That day I received a voice mail, which read: "Hi Mr. Fxxxxxxx, this is woodcraft hey if you would give us a call here at the store the number is 804-355-3945 unfortunately we weren't able to get that transaction to go through on your credit card and I cannot do a return the normal way over the phone if you would like I said give us a call when you get your money back number here is 804-355-3945 thank you..." In summary, I called at least twice, never reaching a man named "Kevin", who was always, "out right now" and also the person who identified himself as the owner and the person resolving my problem. Finally, when I called on 11/15/25, 10 days later, since I still hadn't received my refund, I was able to speak to him after a very long hold. He took my credit card info and after, what I can only describe as a very unprofessional, "I don't give a damn" conversation, Kevin informed me, whatever problem he had processing my return earlier was resolved and he said my money was refunded. Additionally, he emailed me a receipt. Im still waiting for the payment to post but he said the refund was being processed. Throughout the call, his remarks and tone, I can only describe as rude and unprofessional. We are so happy to have found such an amazing local store to purchase wood from for our projects. Not only does this store have an exceptional selection of exotic lumber to choose from the customer service is phenomenal. We have been in three times now and the environment is always warm and inviting and the staff is always super helpful. The whole staff is amazing but the last time we were in Ethan went out of his way to help us out and educate us on best materials for our upcoming projects. Did I mention they also have amazing deals via email & a wood loyalty card?! I can not say enough good things about this store! Also, Shamus is my best buddy when we go visit Woodcraft Richmond! I am a hobbyist woodworker and have been visiting this store periodically for the past ten years. Each time I visit, I get an uncomfortable vibe. Sort of like I have interrupted their day with a question or inquiry that is unworthy of their time or attention. This week, I went to the store to order an expensive piece of equipment. Same vibe. I left. Reflecting on this, I think I can describe it now. It is like going to a store that is having a "going out of business" sale. Morale is low and maintaining customer loyalty is irrelevant. No real engagement. No real interest. Completely transactional. Low morale in any organization can almost always be traced to poor leadership. Perhaps it is the store manager. Perhaps it is the owner. But is almost certainly not the individual sales attendants since this poor service is chronic. Continuous training of staff to provide great customer service should be job one for a franchise owner in today's retail environment. Almost everything I need is available through Woodcraft online at the same price and often with free shipping. A bricks and mortar store owner who doesn't focus on great customer service is left with nothing to distinguish their business in this environment. I wouldn't want to be that owner. Poor customer service is a recipe for eventually having a "going out of business" sale. read more

Good store with a great selection but today they get one star, drove 20 miles to look at the shop stool on sale, none out or available to see and the two staff people at the counter did not even want to take one out of the box. I don't mind buying something in a box but if it did not meet my needs in comfort or adjustment then its another 20 mile drive to return it. Just made my first visit to this place and I could not have been happier. They have a fantastic selection and prices seemed competitive. Staff was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. I don't know of any other place in the area that has this sort of stuff available. It's great to be able to browse in person instead of ordering stuff online without seeing it up close. It looked like they had an awesome lumber selection, though I didn't get a chance to poke around back there. My only regret is that I didn't go sooner. I will definitely be back. read more

Woodcraft is an amazing store with a large selection of every tool I've ever needed for my projects. The staff on hand are always willing to answer any questions I may have and will give recommendations and personal experiences. Tried to find a wood turning kit at Woodcraft. Couldn't find it so I asked an employee who was in the same aisle putting a sticker on a box. He grudgingly looked in the same place I had looked but couldn't find it. I asked him if her could look up the tube size for that item so I could purchase some. He looked like this was a big imposition but he went up to the front and looked on Woodcraft's website. He said he couldn't find it. I asked him if he could look on Penn State Industries site because I knew they sold the item. He looked quite irritated and said "We just got a shipment in . . ." by which he meant he did not have time to help me any further. I will add that I am female--not the typical customer who shops there. Did my gender prompt the poor customer service? Who knows. I know that I will not darken the door of this shop again. I can get items more cheaply and relatively quickly from Woodturningz and Penn State. read more

Terrible treatment of customers. I was fully prepared to buy a drum sander. Owner was aggressive to the point of making me uncomfortable. I wanted to leave but my path was impeded and lack of respect for social distancing. Employee I dealt with originally was awesome. Easy to talk to and informative. The folks at this location are always helpful, even if it means you do not have to buy what you came for. I go in to buy a $10 item, and go away with $100 worth of advice, and sometimes without having to spend the $10. They have never tried to up-sell me or talk me into a purchase. I recommend this location and its staff. read more
