    Our camp site!!!

Woodford State Park is our favorite place to camp! We try to go at least once each year and having a campsite right next to the lake makes our trip with our dogs so much easier. This state park is very clean, we enjoyed hiking and kayaking. Already booked our site for next year can't wait.

Absolutely beautiful campground between Bennington and Wilmington, VT. The location is perfect for being able to grab supplies or a bite before or after a hike if you aren't up to preparing a campfire meal. My site was very close to the lake and offered up gorgeous views. Check in was a breeze and the campground loops were easy to navigate. The bathrooms were pretty clean and I had no problem with utilizing their showers after running the Tough Mudder. They are paid and take quarters only. I will certainly be back in the future as it was a great area and an amazing spot to spend a weekend.

Camp site 11 perfect for a large tent or two.

The property manager Janet and the front desk attendant Candace were extremely accommodating. Brenda, who wears many hats, was a pleasure to bump into and does deliveries of firewood and/or yard games. Our dogs loved all the trails and the huge dog park on the property. My boyfriend and I are avid fly fishing enthusiasts, we found great access to the Battenkill on the trails and saw some sites along the water. Additionally this camp ground is a quick 10 minute drive from the Orvis Flagship Store. We met many seasonal campers who only had great things to say about the staff. The property is pretty big but it was nice how there always seemed to be a bathroom a short distance away. Overall, we were just so impressed with not only how beautiful this campground is, but also with the amazing customer service. This is a great place to visit or stay awhile.

The pond is disgusting! That's it for entertainment for kids. Quiet time is at 10pm unless they decide to do karaoke, then quiet time is when ever the owners decide to put down the alcoholic drinks and stop keeping everyone up (12am usually). The only area you can access the pong is their poor make shift "beach" and the broken dock, every other area is a camp spot so don't bring adventurous kids. It is VERY much off the beaten path and once you turn on Somerset Rd., it's a good 3 or 4 mile drive to get to the general parking, picnic area near the water. Oh yeah, the road isn't paved either so it's best to have a 4x4 or some sort of vehicle with tires that can handle the trek. The general parking area is a decent size, there are a few picnic tables and a port-a-potty which was surprisingly clean. The reservoir itself is huge and great for kayaking or canoeing, neither of which we did, but I did see quite a few people there enjoying themselves on the water. There is one general walking direction which takes you to several different hiking paths and there is even a cute little bridge overlooking a beautiful stream. It had rained that morning and with leaves falling, the trails were a little slippery at points, but nothing that made me feel unsafe. I'd definitely recommend wearing sneakers or hiking boots of some kind. Between the group of us, we had 3 dogs and none of them were on a leash; people really didn't seem to care and everyone was friendly. The dogs enjoyed swimming in the water and I enjoyed looking at it. I'd most definitely go back to Somerset Reservoir with a camera and a light lunch to kick back and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

The folks who work at the KOA are SOOOO friendly and helpful. They greeted us when we arrived, gave us maps and codes to the bathroom/shower building, and hooked us up with wood and a small axe to cut it with! The Retro RV was absolutely charming. Based on other reviews, we came equipped with cleaning supplies. I think that the RV was sufficiently campground clean. There was no visible dirt, or stains anywhere and no off-putting odors. Nevertheless, we still cleaned the whole RV, especially the floor. I'm including this because I believe that the RV's sanitation would be adequate for most campers but you will have to invest a little elbow grease if you're a neat-freak like me. The RV had a pot and frying pan, plates, cups, utensils and really basic kitchen stuff. There was a cute little coffee pot, coffee and tea. There was a heater and an AC (or maybe it was a fan?), but we didn't use either during our trip the first weekend of October. The bed had vinyl padding that was in sections. We brought a queen sized mattress topper and cozy sleeping bags that fit perfectly over the vinyl and made it feel like home. I believe the vinyl padding would have been annoying to sleep on directly as it would have moved around and sagged in parts. Outside of the RV was a deck with a small table and chairs. We moved the chairs to the fire-pit and sat spent the bulk of our time sitting around it. We roasted hotdogs and marshmallows. I was especially delighted to discover that the RV had wifi! I hoped to write on my laptop sitting by the fire and the wifi sure helped a ton! Our favorite part of staying at this KOA was exploring Brattleboro. The town is incredible, quaint, hippie-ish and friendly. We loved the town so much that we were sold on the entire state of Vermont (this camping trip was our first time to the state). Conversely, the other campers at the campground seemed to be a bit more conservative for our taste. Compared to all of the rainbows in town our fellow campers had bumper stickers and flags that had less welcoming flair. It almost doesn't feel right to dock a star from this KOA because of the expressiveness of other campers, but I got the impression that this was the norm.

We wanted the whole camping experience to go along with our concert festival weekend, and we liked the fact that this campground had a lake. Our site was just a flat patch of dirt and gravel with a picnic table, a fire pit made out of an old truck tire, and a water spout, but it got the job done. We were able to fit two tents and two compact cars on that small plot, and we had access to two nearby bathrooms. The lake was a short walk from the campsites, and it was a nice, relaxing area. My only complaints are about issues that might only arise when the campground is full, like it was when we stayed because of the festival adding to the population of seasonal campers. The bathrooms got pretty grimy and muddy throughout the day with a layer of condensation over everything, and the showers in the busier bathroom ran out of hot water, so I took a cold shower one morning. Also, there were a lot of campsites in a small area, so we could hear everything the chit-chatty gals a few sites away from us were saying when we were trying to go to bed. Still, it wasn't too bad, and it was an inexpensive place to stay for a weekend. This campground isn't a place I would drive out of my way to, but it was fine for when we had things to do nearby. Note: The website tells you to avoid GPS directions that take you to Bradley Street but doesn't explain why. We couldn't figure out how to avoid it and took Bradley Street anyway. It's a steep hill, but not that bad. I'm guessing if you have a big RV or a trailer, it might be tough to lug up, but other than that, we had no problems with the GPS directions.

Every year we've returned, it seemed to drop a notch on the Rating scale. This past weekend we brought our tents to a water view site. The management now has their trailer parked on one of the better sites and can't seem to keep the front of their site picked up. The clutter is just awful and is the first site that's seen as you drive to your campsite. The "Seasonals" seem to be encroaching on the weekend campers. The management's pets are constantly barking along with some others that are year round. The campsites are not cleaned before a new arrival takes it over. It's not as pleasant as it used to be. Falllen leaves are still on the sites from last year and really should have been picked up and discarded. The smell is really noticeable from the rotting leaves and what ever else might have been left behind from the previous campers. The campground is active all through the night. There were large groups sharing one site and they just never went to sleep. A rough night. Mamagement should have asked them to settle down. Last year, we had a camping neighbor who became really drunk. In the middle of the night, the husband staggered out of his tent just to pass out on the ground, a foot next to our tent. His wife came to try to revive him. His language was just awful and only a few feet from our heads. Eventually, his wife managed to get him off the ground and back into his own tent. I had some explainging to do with the kids the next morning. Was not fun.... It's not as nice as it used to be. Lots more Seasonals are taking the sites and some interesting customers are allowed to stay. It's owned by the town of North Adams. It may get better if they just privatized the campground and let a business run it to make a profit. I think the grounds would be much cleaner and the buildings and playgrounds would get better attention as well. I don't believe we'll be going back after this last experience. I can't imagine this getting much worse.
