I've since had a change of employment and need to shorten my visit there. Per campground policy clearly stated online, credits or refunds aren't given for cancellations on holiday weekends. I'm available for the weekend, and submitted a request for credits for the non-holiday nights so I can use them in the future, per policy. Dave (who claimed to be owner, then clarified as Gen Mgr) denied my request... claims this cannot be done. I asked what would happen if someone had a lengthy reservation like weeks or maybe a month ... would they be locked into the entirety because a holiday fell within their dates?? He said no, they wouldn't; that's different. And he declined to afford me any means of contacting someone else (such as the owner) so that I could request ... "they won't be back for weeks anyways", he said. Please, per policy, I am keeping my nonrefundable non creditable weekend nights (3), would like to have the non-holiday nights (4) issued as a credit for a future stay. Dave has been ineffective in explaining to me why it's impossible for me to do this ... but is certainly possible for someone else in same situation.

Private campgrounds are usually crowded and loud. Not Mt Greylock. Big wooded site. Lots of privacy. Clean. Friendly helpful staff. This is clearly a gem in the Berkshires. Not super suited to tent camping but most modern private campgrounds aren't. This one most of the sites have water electric and gray water discharge. Rv sites are easy to get into. They deliver wood to your site. They have a pool but we did not visit- we had the dog. They had live music Saturday night. A great add. Bath house was clean. Showers nice sized. I definitely would go back.

TBH The owner's wife is very accommodating. If I could POST ZERO Stars, I would. The husband/owner is an absolute piece of crap. Let me explain. I called to reserve a spot for two nights and the wife graciously tells me there is one spot open on the river. I tell her great, without asking the price and reserve the spot on Thursday. I call back and explain I would like to drop off my rtt trailer 6X6 in my spot early in the morning 5am (without setting up) and on the other end of the phone is a booming voice the F*U*K he will and he goes off for about 2 minutes. Now mind you this is not my first time doing this, yet this guy continues to berate me over the phone, then when I ask to talk to him he says he was yelling at his wife. Ya OK. So I tell him that I was planning on driving almost three hours to fish the Deerfield with my son and ask to drop it off in the spot. YA YA whatever is his response. To be accommodating, I do not leave as I wanted to arrive at 5am as he didn't want me to disturb his other guests, yet wants to charge me for the first night even though I wouldn't be there. We arrive at 7am and wait until I see lots of campfires going and people walking around. At 7:15 I call the office line and he is angry already, saying I woke him up and that check in isn't until 12:00 noon, even though I have been charged for the previous night and had permission to be there at 5am by him and his wife. This guy lets me drive almost three hours with my son, then gives me wrong directions to my spot and drives down LOUDLY saying are you down driving all around my property. I calmly explain I used the directions they gave me and they sent me the wrong way. He then states that we won't be doing this again to which, I said what again. You are right. Then he says you can leave. TBH I was thankful, as the spot he "gave" us was sandwiched between 30+ other tents along maybe 250 foot stretch of river front, all of which were awake and up cooking and getting ready for the day. You are right on top of one another, so much so you can hear others' conversations just sitting there. I said no problem, just give me a refund and I will leave. F*u*k YOU. I will call the cops if you don't leave. Apparently he was waiting to kick me out knowing I was driving the 2.5 hrs+ to the camp site with my son, because when he said he was yelling at his wife, I said that was no way to speak to his wife, with a 1st time customer on the phone. So I drove to the office and called the number to get my refund, at which time he drove up, as I am calling out to him he looks back and slams the door and refuses to pick up the phone. Drove about 15 min toward N. Adams and expailned the situation to a couple of people asking for another campsite, both locals pointed me to two other sites, but both had similar experiences with the owner, husband - not the wife. Choice and descriptive words about him, my GOD! Locals know him I guess. Still had a great time in Western MA - went out to N Adams and fished the Hoosic - caught five brookies and 1 brown all natives. Spent the night near Sawyer Pond VT and found another FREE places to camp almost like RTT in the wilderness - State allowed. I got my money back by doing a charge back. If anyone has ever had an issue with this guy, all you need do is call your credit card company explain the situation, and if no services were received the Credit Card Company - against his will, will pull the funds and place them back on your card, even with his NO REFUND POLICY. He will then get charged a "CHARGE BACK" which costs him an additional $25-$50 per and he gets a mark against his VISA/MC account. Customer have rights and he cannot steal your money. So in the end, He lost $50 plus two night rental fees, for his effort, and we found a new campsite and fishing spot. Turned what could have been a terrible time into an adventure and made some good memories!

Verbally assaulted by owners wife after departed buildin while my 13 year old son and i were in parking lot, Owners wife seemed to be in a heated rage. As I was honest on serving portions and service, I was aggressively and verbally attacked in front of my 13 year son who had just won an outstanding ball game for the local high school. Found the management/owners wife to be rude and very disrespectful towards my child and I. Personally I plan to report this to the town of Charlemont and better business bureau, where restuarant is located. Understand this business does not respect one another as owners and Customers, in it for the dollar. God bless this couple can find happiness.

Over the years, it's grown into a second home not just for us, but for our extended family and friends who also spend their summers here. It's the perfect spot for families, with Friday night movies in the park, hayrides, cornhole, DJ dance parties, bingo, kids' crafts, a great pool and creek, and fun events like Christmas in July and the annual carnival. There's always something going on, and Mike (the owner) does a great job keeping things fun, organized, and welcoming. Aqua Vista is truly our summer home away from home.

However, black trails and some blue trails are not groomed. I was cross-country skiing for 4 hours there and half of the trails I skied are not groomed. If you want to ski a lot, it is inevitable to ski not groomed trails as well. Considering paying $16 for 4 hours and half of them are not groomed, it is a rip-off. I have cross-country skied for $12 in Western Mass. Hope they decrease the price a little, then it will be a good deal.

Notchview is an excellent cross country skiing resort that is right off the main highway, very easy…read moreto get to, and has excellent trails. A great place for beginners and advanced skiers alike. Parking: As the turnoff is right off the main highway, traffic getting in and out of the parking area can be a little bit frustrating to navigate. There is parking alongside the road on both sides. As you approach Notchview from the road, take a look at the parking situation up near the lodge, sometimes there are several empty spaces, but most people don't see them, and end up parking clear at the bottom of the slight hill. Lodge: Notchview's lodge does not accurately match the quality of the skiing area. It's tight quarters, with chairs and tables crammed in every possible spot, leaving little room for comfort. Upstairs however, there are a couple of couches and an armchair, which is rarely ever taken. For a bit of privacy and peace and quiet, I'd recommend sitting upstairs. Notchview also does not have a kitchen. Instead, they rely on premade sandwiches, soups from a local restaurant, and other miscellaneous bakery items, such as bagels, muffins, and the odd vegetable samosa. The chili here is absolutely abhorrent, with far too much cumin. However, I did find that I really enjoyed the vegetable samosas, despite them being cold and not able to be warmed up. Cocoa, cider, etc. are all made from a packet, which you make yourself. There's little to no service in the food department. I'd advise planning ahead, and either packing your lunch, or making a trip to a local restaurant for a bite to eat. Skiing: Notchview excels in the trail department. There's lots of mileage, from beginner to advanced: gently sloping hills, wide open meadows, naturally increasing to steeper climbs and downhills. Some of the trails are a bit narrow. The tracks are well laid, and in most cases on both side of the trail. Notchview is not the easiest place for a beginner to start, as even some of the more basic trails still require technical skills that a first time cross country skier may not have. Before hitting the trails, I would have beginners practice in some of the more wide-open meadow spaces, especially how to kick up a hill and safely traverse a downhill. I'd strongly suggest skipping the rudimentary bunny hop trail. It is for beginners; however, if you are over the age of 10, your skis will be too long to navigate the sharp up and downs. You'll fall after getting stalled between two hills, and twist your knee like I did. It is much easier for those with very short skis to navigate this area. On the open-faced hills and meadows, the wind can get a bit harsh, so it's advisable to avoid these areas on particularly windy days. Once in the forest however, the wind dies down quite significantly. Another pro and con for Notchview is that they host a number of cross country skiing races. Notchview was the first place I ever tried to cross country ski, and it was very intimidating to be surrounded by advanced skiers who were intensely focused on their race (they can be a bit coarse). I would recommend avoiding race days if at all possible, as the lodge becomes very congested and some trails are limited due to their use by those racing. Not to mention the fact that the crowds can cause a lot of frustration and anxiety for those who are just learning. Notchview is a cross country skiing staple. Its simple access, no-nonsense directions make it an easy choice when the weather may be poor. However, you will end up sacrificing a chance at good food at a comfortable lodge, and instead be subjected to lots of people, both on the trails and off.

We came here for the Aerial Adventure Park and the Mountain Coaster and our party of 6 had a great…read moretime with both of these activities. When you drive in to the resort, the Aerial Adventure park is visible right away. When I first saw it, it seemed smaller than I expected and I thought we would be done in a flash. Let me assure you, the aerial adventure course is a LOT more complex than it looks and it was fun and challenging for all of us, from teens to older adults. There are two levels to the course - first you do the lower level and then if you want to try the more challenging higher level you move on to that. Both levels are included in your ticket. Each section of the course is unique: some have zip lines, there are some climbing sections to get from one point to another, some have balance activities, and some rely on strength and ingenuity. Everyone wears a harness, so you are always safe (I did end up dangling a few times and was grateful for the harness!). Staff here is awesome and they train you before you go up into the course. The Mountain Coaster is also fun, although when we went around noon on a summer Friday, we had to wait in line for about 45 minutes to get on. I am a scaredy cat when it comes to roller coasters, but I LOVED the Mountain Coaster, where I go to zip down a mountain surrounded by trees and nature, and I could control the speed. I would love to do this again, but would plan to go earlier in the morning to hopefully avoid the crowds.

Wow did I have the best time! I did know about this place until I moved to the area. They have so much going on here. Mtn biking is huger this place with some great trails. They have a mountain coaster too. They got my attention for a go to destination. The ziplining team was great. They have a basic run and more advance run. We took the adv one. We will be back for more events no doubt !"

We brought two visitors from out of the country here for their the lodge's jazz dinner and had a…read morelovely overall experience. To address some of the previous diners' concerns: no, this is not a swanky, white-tablecloth establishment; yes, it is very rustic, with furnishings that have probably been there for a few decades; and, yes, unless you have exactly 6 people in your party, you will end up sitting at a table with other people. I saw no sign of "filth" in the dining room -- my guess is that may happen more in the daytime, when hikers in muddy boots tromp through the place -- and the woman who acts as not just the server, but also the hostess, busser, and cashier, was on her toes throughout the evening and served the entire room (that's right -- one server for the entire room) in a more expeditious way than I ever could have. I give her and the kitchen major props for keeping the service moving as fast as they did. Of course, when you go to a restaurant on the summit of a mountain, part of what you're paying for is the experience of eating at 3,500 feet while the sun sets, and it is spectacular. Once we staked out our spots at the table and confirmed our orders with the server, we headed outside, before sunset, to walk the short distance to the overlook (the War Memorial monument is, unfortunately, under renovation and covered in scaffolding), where you can take in a panoramic view of 5 states. We went back out about 30 minutes later while the sun was setting and the moon was rising simultaneously -- this was the evening before the summer solstice -- and it was, in a word, phenomenal. Now to the food. The lodge serves a three-course, prix-fixe meal for about $35 per person, and it varies almost every evening. If you're vegetarian, be sure to mention this when you make reservations; the kitchen makes a limited amount of covers, so you won't be able to order a veg meal after the fact. Everyone gets the same dessert. This dinner also had the musical component, which is new for the lodge. Our evening's entertainment was a trio who played a mix of standards ("Summertime") and lite jazz. They were solid, if not spectacular (though kudos to the singer, who was excellent), but our guests, having never experienced live jazz before, absolutely loved it. Two of our party went veg, and for a starter got a basic salad with lettuce, radishes, and cherry tomatoes -- perfectly fine, if a little sweet in the dressing; some black pepper countered it nicely. For an entree, we got pasta primavera with gemelli, butternut squash, portabellas, zucchini, snap peas, green beans, and oven-roasted tomatoes -- each vegetable was perfectly cooked, and the pasta was not drowning in a pool of oil. Can I get an Amen? Our non-veg party members went for the chicken cacciatore with a side of green beans, and the beef braised in red wine, also served with a side of green beans. They reported that the meat was cooked well and not too chewy, and the sauces were light and tasty. We shared a bottle of wine -- 14 Hands Merlot -- which was just OK for me, but, again, our guests seemed to enjoy it. For dessert, everyone had profiteroles -- a puff pastry cut in half and filled with bittersweet chocolate mousse and whipped cream. While I scraped off most of the whipped cream (not an issue with theirs -- I'm just not a fan in general), the filling was airy and just sweet enough, with a nice hint of orange. Overall, the food was a solid B+ -- nothing earth-shattering, but fresh, prepared well, and served promptly. But Bascom Lodge isn't just about the food; it's about the setting and the extras, like the music and the exquisite sunset. And when you keep in mind that all of the supplies have to be trekked up to 3,500 feet and the building and equipment maintained, I think it's a pretty good value for $35. I would definitely pay another visit, especially during a full moon.

Jazz music was so loud that conversation was completely impossible during this long wait. Dinner was OK, nothing great, yet cost $70 per person. Definitely not going back. Left before dessert, as we were all tired.and disappointed.

This year they are going to be rebuilding the dam at the end of the lake, so that should be worth exploring next year. Last year, we learned how to sail, which was a real treat. We were in the correct season to get to be able to pick fresh wild blueberries from our kayaks!! We made a great syrup with them, and had it over ice cream...yummmm. ====================================================== In response to the person that has trouble with stairs: I think all the cabins have some amount of stairs, the white one has the fewest (maybe one?). In order to get down to the lake, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE ANY STAIRS. My mother-in-law has bad hips, and she doesn't use the stairs. All you have to do is either go around the house to the right, or walk all the way to the left in front of the green cabin, and there are NO STAIRS. The lawn is very gradually sloped on both of those paths. You can even get to the lake by walking directly in front of their porch...without stairs. Look at picture number two (that I took years ago), there are NO STAIRS under the flag on the left OR near the small red tree on on the right. The stairs mentioned are directly in the center of the picture under the arch.

We swam, kayaked, grilled every night, played with our dog (yes, they are extremely dog friendly) and just relaxed by the lake and in our cozy cottage. It's close to so many great places to visit and enjoy (Northampton, the Berkshires, DAR State forest), yet far enough away to indulge in a little pastoral solitude. We can't wait to return!
