I finally decided I should use the gift card my hubby got me over a year ago! It can be difficult to get a reservation so if you have a date in mind, I'd make an appointment as soon as you can. I thought that was a good sign. I booked online and it was easy and convenient. The first available appt was around 3 months away so I booked a massage and Shirodhara (scalp massage). I arrived to my appt and was immediately led upstairs and shown the dressing room so that I could change into a robe. They don't offer the same sleek looking, brown robe with their logo on it for plus size customers. Instead I was given a white robe, that while comfy and oversized, seemed a little dingy. My masseuse, Raquel, was AMAZING. I enjoyed every second of my 80 minute massage. The Shirodhara was nice and Becky did a great job. Unfortunately, it left my long hair in some really bad knots so I don't think that is a service I would try again. All of the oils used in both services smelled soooo good! The atmosphere was very tranquil and relaxing. They offer some complimentary teas and water. I did book another service with Raquel -- it was probably one of the best massages I've had so I look forward to returning! I just wanted a me day yesterday and I got it. My 4lb dog and I went to get my hair dyed, he was a Star as usual, then came home and I said no I need more. So I called the woodhouse because I've been there many times in my youth and remembered it as smelling like a good time. It really was. I just had a massage and it hurt. It really hurt but that's when you know it works. Aleah was so professional when I made gross sounds (not controllable and I did apologize) the place is beautiful and today my back feels like it belongs to a child. It was expensive (to what I thought, I thought an hr massage would be $100 but again I'm old and my mind is stuck in 2009) but u get what you pay for and they really deliver on that. **STAY AWAY - YOU WILL GET RIPPED OFF!!** I had an appointment scheduled for 2pm. They called me the morning of and asked if I could come in at 1pm instead which I agreed to. I arrived promptly at 12:30pm (as requested showing up 30min before appointment). I check in at the front, go upstairs, change, etc. wait in the waiting area for over 30min. I then receive a call from the spa at 1:02pm asking if I'm still coming in for my 1pm appointment. I tell them I've been waiting upstairs. Once they come up to get me, take me to the room, get undressed and situated and the facial starts it's well after my 1pm start time and they still ended my appointment at 1:50 (when I'm supposed to have a 50min facial for $140!!!). I had booked a deep cleanse facial and it said facial extractions are part of it. Tell me why I came home, had to use a biore strip and it was covered in blackheads. I spent over $400 that day and I provided feedback when they had requested per their email. Never heard a word from them. Obviously they just want your money and don't care about your feedback/service experience. Never again. **this was not my first visit with the spa. I had a terrible first time experience a few years back for a friends mani/pedi for her wedding. We had a friend pay in advance for our mani/pedis without our knowledge since it was a surprise and then at the end of the service our other friend paid for our mani/pedis and they never even told us that our appointment was already paid for!! I do have one tiny little suggestion, however. In the quiet room, it'd be awesome if there were some footstools or ottomans with some of the chairs. I booked a spa day for my mom and I to celebrate her birthday. We had an amazing time. Everyone was extremely friendly and wished her a happy birthday. I got tea in between services and the sunroom was a great place to relax. I appreciated that they requested masks in common areas. We did four treatments: the seaweed body wraps, 80 minute massages, and Mani/pedis. All were wonderful. Mary did both body wraps and my mom's Mani/pedi and Casseia did my Mani/pedi. Both of them were lovely and we enjoyed the conversation and services. Ian did both massages and he was wonderful, as well. I have been coming to this day spa for a few years now and I always wish I could go more! I live 45 minutes away and probably pass 20 spas on my way to Woodhouse. But nothing compares to this place! It's quaint, staff is friendly, and I have never had a bad service by anyone. EVER. I have had two different services here. COUPLES MASSAGE REVIEW The first was a couples massage with my husband. It was so beautiful. The customer service is amazing! They are so sweet and kind. The massage was wonderful and I will definitely be going back for another. Only downside was for some reason they gave my husband the younger staff member and mine the elder and it didn't make me feel too comfortable having a younger woman give him a full body massage. BRAZILLIAN WAX REVIEW. The second service I got was a Brazilian wax. Again great customer service. They made me some tea to try that I wanted to buy. My service was scheduled at 3. I got there at 230 becasue of sign in time and they didn't start me till about 3:15. That was kinda irritating but not enough to make give any less stars. Bad part of brazillian. The lady was kind but doing the butt area is AWKWARD. They make you do doggy style while other places I've been to will just make you role back which is more comfortable. My experience was very relaxing and nice overall. We were greeted immediately and taken to the locker room. The drinks offered were mild in flavor, as expected. My masseuse was kind and courteous. She gave a nice strong massage, as I requested. I subtract one star for the cramped quarters, creaky house, and the awkward waiting room. I personally feel the waiting area is too small for more than 4 people at a time, especially after changing into a robe. The house itself is gorgeous, but because of its age and size, you can hear every footstep and almost every conversation nearby, even in the massage room with doors closed. Prices are also a bit high, but they offer many specials and rewards to combat that. Overall it was an enjoyable time. read more

Just moved to the area and was looking for a massage for the girlfriend and I. Woodhouse came up and it was within 2 minutes from my house, so I figured why not? Now, I've had massages all over the place, but this one honestly was THE BEST experience I have ever had. That doesn't mean the other places were bad, but Woodhouse did one thing the other places never did, and that's LISTEN. I've had massages other times where they ask you any areas to work on or if you prefer quiet or not, and they just literally go un-noticed as if I just didn't say anything at all. I have asked for therapists to focus on my right side (I'm a dental hygienist and we put a lot of tear on our shoulders/neck) and they just almost pretend you didn't say anything. This was the first place that I actually had the person FOCUS on what I asked. If you don't plan on spending time on any areas in specific, than why even ask? Or where I asked for a silent massage and 2 minutes in I start getting small talk, which then I start stressing out on how to politely say "please be quiet, I'm paying money to relax right now." The place is very beautiful inside, great atmosphere, and absolute professional staff from the front door to the minute you leave the massage table. I really recommend this place because I will be coming back. Side note: I priced it at moderate because it's really in the general ballpark as far as spa services go. read more

They definitely overbook themselves. The whole experience felt rushed. The employees complained a lot. About the room temperature, the space, the fact that the were overbooked, the fact that I had come in with gel on my nails.... In fact, I felt like they were punishing me for that. Beyond complaining, they did an awful paint job, it's still all over my fingers and quite lumpy. I am going to have to pay someone else to start over. But I also noticed that everyone else got like a warm neck wrap, except me. Other people got hand and foot massages, and lotions, and I literally just got my nails filed and painted. That is officially the worst customer service I have ever gotten at a spa or nail salon. They didn't even have toilet paper in their bathroom. I would not recommend it to anyone. read more

I went to the Woodhouse Spa for a facial before an event i had coming up the following week. The staff was exuberantly nice, no problems with them at all. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, and beautiful as well. But a huge disappointment in the waiting room where they make you sit in a robe in front of complete strangers, including the opposite sex, which was very uncomfortable for me. i would like to suggest they do a male waiting room and women waiting room separate. I got the Minkyti facial i believe. it was nice, but i didn't see AMAZING results or anything, i just looked like i was glowing a little bit. overall it was a good experience, the waiting room was just too uncomfortable for me i felt like the men were starring at me. Had my first visit to Woodhouse and J. Madison that is next store... and overall my experience was positive. I am by no means a "spa expert" and so take my review for what its worth. I will compare J. Madison to the Woodhouse which is next store. I visited Woodhouse two weeks ago and J. Madison this week, both for a sweetish massage. I'll base my review on the pre-massage and then the actual massage itself. J. Madison vs. Woodhouse pre massage. They both are on busy wyoming ave. Upon entering J. Madison, the two gals at the front desk were pleasant and inviting. Woodhouse was also pleasant but more "business like"...splitting hairs here..the gals at J. Madison were just a bit more outgoing and friendly. Woodhouse waiting area is more "spa like". J. Madison was not bad however I would recommend having relaxing spa music played int he waiting area...to get in a relaxing mood. The street traffic was loud and if there was inviting music being played in the waiting area...it would set the mood. Woodhouse wins in this area...very relaxing area before the actual massage and street traffic could not be heard. After completing a client form at both...I was escorted up stairs. Woodhouse has a better locker area that is separate from the toilet area. J. Madison locker and toilet area is combined into one space. Also, Woodhouse locker felt like it was ready for just me. They had one rope hanging and slippers for a man. J. Madison had 6 or 7 robes hanging all in one area and the one issue is that all the slippers were closed inside the robes. I picked one...opened it up...ladies slippers...chose another...same thing...I ended up putting on what was probably a size 7 ladies slipper because I did not want to open up each robe that was tied closed in order to find a robe that had slippers for a man inside. You could not see that unless you untied each robe. Not a big deal...just an observation that if I owned J. Madison I would make an adjustment with that presentation. Also, Woodhouse had combs and hair gel/moose in the bathroom area. This was very helpful because after a long massage at both places, the therapists at both places did an awesome job on the head/scalp area and my hair that already had gel in it...made it looked like I had serious "bed head"when It was over. Woodhouse must be aware of this and had sterile combs there to use along with hair moose to fix the hair... If I was heading back to the office after J. Madison, it would have been an issue as I had no way of fixing a messy head of hair. That attention to detail by Woodhouse was a nice touch. I would encourage J. Madison to make this very easy fix for the client. One other thing to mention, when I left the locker area to look for the therapist, I stumbled onto a storage room and employee break room since that door was wide open. That room is obviously not for a client to see as it looks like what it is...a storage and or break room. That door should be kept closed...it takes from that relaxing spa atmosphere that I think clients look for. Its like seeing a messy kitchen for a high end restaurant....just don't want to see that and I am sure it was not for me to see....the door was just left wide open. Again, its that attention to detail. Overall...I feel like Woodhouse won the "pre-massage"experience but its not a major issue...just something I think J. Madison should be made aware of. The actual massage: J. Madison vs Woodhouse. First let me say, I think both were really good. I also understand that each therapist has their own technique...like a snowflake...no two are alike. If I had to pick on the actual massage...I am leaning toward J. Madison on this particular day. I had Nichole at Woodhouse and she was really good....I had Jolene at J. Madison and she was really good too...maybe just a tad better. But one MAJOR ISSUE I had with J. Madison is that when the actual massage started...I looked at the clock in the room at it read 9:03...I paid for a 120 min (2hr) and when it was over, the clock was covered by 2 small massage oil bottles...I moved one at it read 11:58. I was cut short exactly 5 min. That was not cool. One thing I liked about J. Madison is that they offed a 2hr massage...Woodhouse offers a 1hr 50 min and for the extra 10 minutes at J. Madison, it only cost $10 more. The main reason why I tried both places out within a week of each other is that I want to find a place that I can join their monthly membership. The other differences I mentioned were not "deal breakers" but being shortchanged 5 min was not cool. And I gave a 55% tip because the actual massage was very good...but getting shortchanged that 5 min makes me want to think twice about starting a monthly membership. read more

I love woodhouse! This spa is absolutely perfect and I will always return. I had a little bit of trouble finding it at first but once I got inside I was really excited. My boyfriend and I went for a couples massage and everyone there was really friendly and nice. They took us right upstairs and showed us the locker room where we were given fresh plush robes. They kept us in the waiting room upstairs until our room was ready and had us fill out a sheet about preferences, touch, areas of sensitivity, etc. The mood of the spa was so relaxing, the rooms were dark, no one talked above a whisper, and it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. As for the massage the room was beautiful and again very relaxing. Neither me or my boyfriend could complain about our massage therapists, they were both perfect. If you don't mind waiting a little to try and get an appointment here then your fine. It's a smaller place but it definitely does not mean lack of service. I have always recommended this spa to everyone. I have been here many times, for all different services, but mainly the signature Minkyti facial. I will not be coming back for another facial anytime soon. I was super disappointed. I always had Katie as my spa attendant and I couldn't say enough great things about her, but unfortunately she no longer works there. I thought I would try someone new; only to be very unsatisfied. First problem was my eye makeup was not removed prior to beginning the facial. She literally continued to layer creams and cleansers on my face without ever properly removing my eye makeup. Super weird. When I was finished, I still had mascara on, which I then had to go home and wash my face, removing any eye cream or serum I had just had put on. Number 2 major problem was the length of my session; I paid for 90 min, only to find at the end I was cut short; by at least 10 to 15 minutes. That is really unacceptable. Not being much of a complainer, I tipped appropriately and left without saying much. After thinking about it, and filling out the online survey they send me by email, with all of the same complaints, I thought someone may contact me. No such luck. I am still upset about this, not only because I was a good customer, but it is not cheap. I will not go back, and will sooner visit their neighbor, J Madison, for my next facial. read more

Had a poor first experience here after having heard good things about this place and buying gift certificates here several times for others. My sister and I went for post-holiday facials. Customers be warned: I think that they are overbooking due to Christmas gift certificates being cashed in. The whole experience felt harried, as if we were in a spa "mill," being rushed down the line ahead of the next clients, not at all a relaxing experience. Our unremarkable 50 minute facials costing a fairly pricey $100 each ended a few minutes ahead of the :50 minute mark--ok. My sister, who has no know allergies or skin sensitivities and who regularly frequents other spas and uses various cosmetics, for the first time ever emerged with a severe rash/reaction developing on her arm--beet red and with raised welts. Ok, things happen and people may react differently to certain products (or, the gylcolic peel may have been massaged down onto her arm and then accidentally left on there for the duration of the treatment). Anyway, she is a very laid back person, who didn't want to make a big deal of it; she went into the restroom to wash it off herself and discreetly mentioned it to the person who did her treatment purposefully out of the earshot of other customers just to try to find out what the product was. That person did not show much concern. Then, there was nowhere to sit in the crowded relaxation room so we had to leave immediately without any down time or even being able to have a drink. Needless to say, by this point, we were over the entire experience, ready to write off our combined $200 + tip unpleasant experience as a total loss, and just wanted to get out of there. The oddest part was that on the way out, one staff member asked us how our experience was, and when we flatly said "fine" (which anyone striving for excellent customer experience should immediately recognize as a red flag), she mechanically said "great!" and directed us to the check out desk anyway. When the check out girl later asked the same question and did bother to follow up on why the experience was just ok (WTG), we explained there was nowhere to even sit and my sister was developing a severe rash, but she just proceeded to check us out normally with no apology or compensatory measures (FAIL). Please, after all that, don't hassle us further to provide feedback if you don't really care about our experience. Just an hour later, we left the spa far more stressed than we entered it, without our skin feeling any better, and we definitely will not be back! One star is for the spa having a nice atmosphere, including beautiful word work in the house, and because none of the staff members were overtly rude to us, more an issue of incompetence and lack of concern. read more
