As for the decimation of the music and history collections, that is just a disgrace. Major decisions like these should be voted on by the community. I have lived in Plainedge for over 40 years and I have never seen the library in worse shape.

I have loved this place for almost 50 years , but the decision of the present director to allow its exceptional classical music collection to be gutted , along with much of its history holdings , breaks my heart . I pray that the board will wake up and prevent the gutting of Plainedge's incomparable classic literature collection ( Jane Austen to Hemingway ) . While it is understood that space is not infinite , destroying the proud legacy of previous directors and staff is no way to serve the community or build one's own legacy . Libraries have traditionally been conservators of the best in our culture , quiet retreats as well as active workplaces . I do hope the Library Board wakes up !

There are a lot of programs for guests of all ages, and there is a theater, game room for teens, a kids section, and an outdoor section. My only complaint would be that there are not many computers there, and that the game room exclusive computers do not let you download games. Overall, this library is very nice and I would recommend visiting it.

I came to this library in July when I took an unexpected week off work. I was going through what I…read morethought was the worst thing ever and right now it may have actually been a good thing but in July even though I normally don't do this I felt I needed time off work or I might snap over this. So around that time I started seeing a therapist because I recognized I needed one. I had to print out paperwork, scan it and send it back to her and now I have my own printer at home but at the time I did not. The library was very helpful. I'm a librarian myself so I thought to call ahead of time and ask them about printing they told me everything I needed to know. I went in registered to use the computer, printed my papers out, filled them out, scanned them and e-mailed them and it was easier then it is a the library I work at but don't tell my co-workers that. The library is also so beautiful I could have stayed and looked at it all day.

When I visited, I sat down at one of the open desks with some other people nearby and someone was openly talking on the phone. The staff in the library did not say or do anything about the noise and stayed behind the glass at the front desk. At the same time, all of the media (CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray, etc) at this place is locked up in cases so it seems to me that the security in this library has something else on their mind. You cannot visit and view the digital materials without needing to check them out which is disappointing to me as it is not in the best interest of public availability.

Not even noise cancelling headphones were strong enough to drown out the sounds enough for me to think, the place is simply too small to find a quiet corner.

"The next stop is Valley Stream"…read more... .....Says the conductor on the LIRR....and I get excited, calm, pensive, happy all at the same time. I'm home. I've attempted this review several times. I actually started writing it two years ago **insert shame face** I left it alone because I felt at that time I was not informed enough to write a review on The Village Of Valley Stream. Fast forward two years plus, I've come to love the Village of Valley Stream the way a great parent loves a stepchild. Geographically I feel as if I'm in certain parts of the UK. A few times I feel as if I'm home in Trini. Did I mention I really love Valley Stream? Maybe my personality meshes well with many of its inhabitants. My family who has lived here for over 20 years are sometimes taken aback when we go places here and I'm called by name or I break into conversation with folks. "Hey did you get that knee checked out?" ....and such. I have my old lady gang that I sometimes walk with. I have my young boy crew at the 7 eleven (who actually gets really concerned if they don't see me for a few days) and I have my laundry buddies. (On Thursdays we wear green lol). I also have spots I would suggest (read demand) I have first dates at because I know the staff at these places would HAVE MY BACK....sometimes my front. I've made good friends with barstaff at some of the local night spots and Oh lorsh Ms. Mindy who knows everyone's business keeps me in the know! Same reason I don't tell her my business lol. So many of its little nuances reminds me of my childhood home. What a quaint village. And like I said earlier, other times I feel as though I'm in the UK, The Village of Bishop Stortford to be exact. The main thoroughfares I know are Sunrise Highway and Rockaway. Merrick Road I'm very afraid of. Well not afraid in so much as I tremble when I pass a certain spot. I was hit by a drunk driver on a Friday afternoon at 3:01pm, while we pedestrians had the light. **shudders** Rockaway ave (not parkway) seems to be the main shopping area with Green Acres Mall not too far off. Nb, Rockaway is divided into two sides/areas. South being Rockaway Avenue and North as you cross Merrick Rd is Rockway Parkway (residential) -confusing to me at first. It isn't all peachy here but other than a few random A. Holes, Valley Stream has really become home to me. Oh! We have Pokémon spots too! Lol. l love Valley Stream. I know I'm not giving you an actual review of this village but I can only write what my heart feels. I really love my new home (for now). Valley Stream, you have been kind to me. They have more than enough stores and food places to cater to your needs. It's always clean and the people usually mind their business. Haha . The town is clean , the upkeep is up to par. The Valley Stream State Park is beautiful also. Very quiet. I love it Visit Valley Stream !
