I called the office and got a voicemail that said for a quicker response send a text, so I left a voicemail asking what happened to my appointment and followed up with a text as well. By 12:30, I remembered my neighbor had given me Shelby's personal number so I tried calling that but I also received a voicemail. Finally at 1:15 the office called and said they needed to reschedule with no other explanation than Shelby was on another job. The rest of the money he keeps for himself. The owner Ryan doesn't do any work himself & he doesn't do a good job managing his friends to do the work that he told you he would do when you got your estimate. He doesn't write any contract. It's all just talk. They started working on my yard & filled the trailer only 1 time. The owners truck had a engine issue when he tried to pull the trailer out of my driveway to take it to the dump. He became very concerned about fixing his truck & wasn't able to take the trailer. The workers stopped working to help him find the issue. No more work could be done because the trailer was already full. My yard wasn't even half cut but they did get some work done. The owner asked me to pay him so he could pay his guys, get a mechanic to come fix his truck or get it towed. I told him that they didn't cut down the biggest tree branch thats hanging over my roof. I asked if I had to pay more to cut it down. He told me that he would do it for free when he came back to get his trailer after his truck gets fixed. I should of just gave him half the money for the job he did but I thought I'd help him pay to fix his truck. If he's a good tree service company & a honest guy then he would do what he said just like I agreed to pay him. He's trailer was on my property for 3 days & I was contacting him to check if his truck got fixed. He came to pick up his trailer with his SUV. I knew he had other jobs to do after he got his truck fixed but he should let me know when it gets fixed & when he could schedule to come back to atleast cut that one tree branch over my roof. He didn't reply back to my text message so I knew he wasn't planning to come back. I called him & asked him when is he planning to come back. He says you want me to come back just to cut the big branch over your roof. I said yes that's what I wanted you to do & that's what you said you was going to do. He tells me that the branch over my roof won't fall on my house because it's a healthy tree & cutting the branch off would kill the tree. He trys to convince me to not cut it & let him off the hook. I tell him that the work that was done wasn't worth the money I paid him. I gave him the money to help him fix his truck & know he doesn't want to come back finish the job. He tells me that he did everything that he agreed to do & he's sorry that I'm not satisfied with his work. Of course I'm not satisfied because I know what I wanted done & I gave him $1800. The estimate he gave me was $1600 but I wanted the grass cut & sprayed with grass/weed killer so I paid a extra $200. The grass did get cut but not sprayed cause he was going to do it when he came back to pick up his trailer after his truck got fixed. I told him no need to spray it cause I sprayed it myself with my own product. I did get estimates from other companies that did seem high but I could of paid a few hundred hundred dollars more & gotten a better job done by a professional company. Bigger companies have employees & more equipment to get the job done quicker & more efficiently. This wouldn't haven't happened if I used a better company. Southern Outdoor Tree Service is a joke. The owner Ryan only cares about making easy money for himself. He likes to keep telling you that he's been in the business for a long time since 2006 so he knows all about it. He tells me that my job was one of the biggest he's ever had & he gave me a low estimate. He tells me the one trailer he filled was the most he ever filled it up to. He tells me that he's now charging alot more to do other jobs because he's looking to get more money to pay the mechanic that fixed his truck. He brags about the money he's taking from people for the low quality work he does. Don't give him business. There's alot of better companies that charge more but have positive reviews

Several other companies that we got quotes from just try to climb up the tree and you have to hope for the best. Using them with proof of adequate insurance coverage really put us at ease. I grew up in the backwoods of Maine with a chainsaw in hand by 14yo. but there was work here beyond my 60yo body and 36' ladder. I had a number of tree companies come out...some knowledgeable and expensive and some fly-by-night and expensive. I called ANJ Tree Service and left Adam a VM which he returned within 24 hrs. His price was outstanding to take down a large strangler fig and medium live oak on top of my shed. His crew arrived as promised including his son, and much to my surprise, later his wife Jackie to operate a bobcat skidder to load debris. I was so pleased that within the year I had them return for a 2cd job to take down a full-on dead oak and a dying oak. They ran into a few problems on how to limb the tree down but not for long. Very happy and they were sure to thank me for my military service in the Army. I wish I had taken pictures of their work in process but I leave few reviews and only when well deserved. They don't know it yet but they will be coming back out soon!
