Bayfield Guest House is a cute house that has 5 suites, all with different names -- we stayed at Eerie Suite. It's a woman-owned company & you can definitely tell because there are so many wonderful things that made this place from good to great! The sheets, robes & towels are all INCREDIBLY soft. I appreciated all the amenities like makeup wipes, bath salt for the tub, and a bottle opener/wine corkscrew, just to name a few. Easy instructions for entry (push the keypad fast. Too slow & it will time out), plenty of reading material provided to know what to do & where to eat in town, plus easy walking distance from restaurants & shops. An amazing, refreshing stay!

The rooftop seating was the highlight -- beautiful views and a really nice atmosphere sitting outside overlooking the water. We ordered the steak frites to share. The steak itself was very good -- cooked perfectly and full of flavor. However, the presentation was very underwhelming. It was served as just a piece of steak on a plastic plate with no real plating or sides. Our fries were also removed as a side from our meal, thinking there was a miscommunication there with the kitchen. We also asked for an extra plate and silverware to share, and were given a paper plate and plastic utensils, which made it difficult to eat a steak comfortably and felt inconsistent with the expected level of dining. Just odd! Our server mentioned he was new, which we appreciated, and he did refill drinks and check in a few times. Overall, though, the service felt a bit flat and not especially engaging. At the end, the bill was around $75 for the steak frites plus a service charge, which we hadn't seen elsewhere in town. Between the pricing, service, and presentation, the experience didn't quite match expectations. Overall, the rooftop and steak were enjoyable, but the experience felt inconsistent.

It was strange that they have a whole packing list on their website, but then they said in person that it would be better to bring as little as possible. We thought it would be fine to still bring our bags, but we think it ended up weighing down our kayaks (along with the things the tour guides packed in our kayaks for everyone's lunches like water jugs). Anyway, we ended up being pretty slow (even though I have quite a bit of experience with kayaks), which made things a bit stressful when they kept yelling at us to keep up. The lunch they provided was delicious and the sights were beautiful! It's just hard to be with a group when they're on a time crunch and want us to keep paddling when we want to stop and look at things, but there's not really another option if you're unfamiliar with the wind/weather/current patterns. Overall, it was a good experience, and we bought some nice embroidered sweatshirts after at their store!

We were looking for a secluded place away from the tourist buzz of Bayfield, where we could enjoy a…read morequiet view of Lake Superior...and we found it at DePerry's on the Lake (about 3 miles north, in Red Cliff). There are 3 - 4 rental units, all with living & sleeping areas and kitchenettes, and views of the lake. The owners were gracious, helpful, and respectful of guests' privacy. We stayed in one of the two "annex" suites, and enjoyed coffee on the deck in the morning (and watching the moon rise in the evening), and reading at the picnic table along the small beachfront of the property. Great for a reasonably priced, quiet get-away where most of the noise came from the waves lapping on the beach, the wind (and windchimes), and birds.
