Woodward Park is a 45 acres national historic site established in Tulsa during the first half of the twentieth century. It is the finest park of Tulsa. Woodward Park is best known for the Upper and Lower Rock Gardens and the Tulsa Rose Garden, with the latter being recognized nationally as remarkable. Other structures in Woodward Park include a cobblestone driveway, a brick carriage house, a sunken garden, a glass conservatory, the Teaching Garden, and the Tulsa Garden Center, which provides horticultural and environmental activities. i'd stopped at the park for a quick picnic dinner on the way home from dining on light fare at a nearby restaurant on brookside. coming from the south on peoria ave, i was pleased to see that the westside of the park along which i'd been walking was that which has the entrance, off peoria and woodward park dr before you get to peoria and 21st heading south, to the hill where our high school cross country team would run hill repeats. and though after dark is not an ideal time for picnicking or running hill repeats, especially the latter considering the lack of lighting on that specific hill, a few large rocks at the base of the hill absolutely sufficed for the picnicking on the light fare of dot honey mustard pretzels i was doing the other night. nonetheless, i've docked a star due to the large construction site at the park, although i'm willing to transfer the energy into providing a reason for a 4 star review to give as close to starpower as i can muster, so long as the park commissioner or leader of coordinating construction company can breakdown what renovations are in progress on an already beautiful, standout public city park ? and by the by, you can enter the park from 21st st at rockford ave, but just would need to drive a little further around the perimeter to reach an interior parking lot as opposed to driving up the hill off peoria and woodward park dr. read more

*** Review is during Covid-19 *** Came here over the summer and realized I didn't write a review! Woodward Park is always a great space. I stayed more in the rose garden area the last time I was there. We actually went to go see the Linnaeus teaching area, but it was closed for the day. Not sure they were even open at the time/ still because of covid anyway. The butterfly garden in that area was so cool! Saw some monarchs, which are always so pretty, and some other kinds that I don't know the names of. And in the rose garden area I even saw some hummingbirds!!! I thought that was exciting... they can be easy to miss though, so if you're there in spring/ summer keep your eyes peeled! As far as Woodward Park as a whole, I always think it is maintained very well. There's lots of different areas to walk around/ explore, and plenty of space to spread out. It's also a great place to take pictures for different occasions, especially in spring when the flowers are most in bloom! read more

This was a beautiful spot for some additional time outdoors enjoying the fresh air and beauty of different flowers and plants. It has plenty of free parking and space to walk and enjoy nature. There is a rose garden, educational center, butterfly garden and more. It's nowhere near the scale of The Gathering Place; however, it still is spacious and worth a visit as it is more well-established (I can only imagine that some of these plants and trees have been there for decades). read more

Tulsa's most popular horticultural attraction for a reason! It is in the heart of historic Mapleridge. A lil but of history for you...It was an allotment given to Helen Woodward, a Creek Indian, by the 5 civilized tribes indian commission. In 1909, Tulsa acquired it from her father without her consent (she was 14). She tried to fight the sale when she was 30 but lost the court battle. Woodward park is 45 acres of garden galore! It has an English herb garden, a terraced Italian Renaissance rose garden, a Victorian conservatory, a 3 acre arboretum and an azalea garden with over 15,000 azaleas and rock gardens. It is definitely a popular spot to take pictures because it's so pretty!!! My nieces and nephew love it when we bring them here to run around and play. It's also located right next to the Tulsa Historical Society Museum and Tulsa Garden Center. A perfect mix to make it a fun and education filled day! read more

LOVE THIS PARK! Does that count as a good enough review? No. It should. Reasons why I love it: 1) I can walk here from my house. Win. 2) It's so well taken care of that I want to hire everyone to come take care of my yard. 3) The tulips in the springtime are stunning. Go mid-morning or mid-afternoon to avoid the crowds. 4) Wide open spaces are a toddler's dream come true. Run forever. 5) Playground...meaning two sets of swings. Just enough for entertaining but not enough to take away from the ambiance of the park. 6) Herb garden. Just go to smell. It's heaven. 7) Bring a picnic lunch, a blanket, and your significant other and enjoy lunch hour outside. Squirrels will become your new besties. read more

Ooooh oh oh, a darling little park in Tulsa that I'm so glad we took the time to visit. When I think "Oklahoma" I don't exactly think beautiful scenery, but I didn't know any better. I'm pretty sure Tulsa has more hills and trees and greenery than DFW for sure, and Woodward Park was one little spot of loveliness that I was able to enjoy. There are several shaded benches, a ton of trees, plenty of open grassy space, and a really pretty rose garden that seriously impressed me. With pebble-stone walkways weaving all around them, it's the perfect place for strolling. Of course this colorful and fragrant garden isn't shaded, so on a hot day you might get sunburnt if you stroll for too long. But you should definitely take the time to mosey through. During our short visit we saw many folks walking their dogs, a ton of squirrels and birds, several young parents with babies and toddlers, and a group of gals picnicking in the grass. Overall a cozy, family-friendly, and intimate park. read more

OK I'm jealous. Not only do I want access to this park all the time, but I want to see it in the Summer when all the flowers are in bloom! I was able to check this park out on a beautiful day in late February, when it was about 75 degrees. Is that normal here?! There were alot of people out and about, throwing frisbees, walking their dogs, enjoying picnics, and laying in hammocks. Tons of places to sit through the park. I also checked out the greenhouse behind the park. I'm not sure if that is part of it, or if it belongs to the gardening center back there, but it's free and you can stop by during certain hours. I have been pleasantly surprised by all the parks in the Tulsa area! I can't wait to check out a few more. Kudos to the mom and her two young kids that were picking up litter from the stream! read more

Nice park to take a walk and get away from the fast pace of the city. There are birds present at every season and some unusual migrants in fall and spring. They are continually changing plantings with the seasons. They recently removed decades old azaleas and replanted the corner of 21st and Peoria. There are many sites in the park that are popular for commercial photography. There are restrooms that I wouldn't go near for fear of weirdos. There are some nice sculptures and a Shakespeare monument. read more

There is no better place in Tulsa to take engagement pictures or to check out the fall foliage. It's my favorite place to gather up some friends and place a few rounds of spikeball or read in our hammocks. The arboretum is a great place to jog or bush up on your tree identification skills. It's fun to hear what others like to do in this peaceful, inviting, and comfortable space. This park's backdrop is the go-to spot for prom, Easter, engagement , and I'm having a good hair day photos. Woodward Park is one of Tulsa's gems. Truly, I doubt most cities have parks this beautiful. Woodward Park is in the heart of midtown and has been a fixture of Tulsa life for pretty much forever. There is a creek with a bridge passing over it, gardens of roses and other flowers, and ancient trees with enormous bases. Needless to say, this was probably a very pretty place before they went about putting a park in. People use Woodward Park for many occasions. There are places to sit and eat a picnic or many settings for a photo shoot. This is a favorite for both wedding and prom shoots. I don't think is the best park for kids to play in because there aren't all that many open spaces, but you'll definitely see people with their animals here. Sitting charmingly, disarming amidst the fair mantle of green trees and nearby rose bushes is Woodward Park. There is a reasonable amount of squirrels here though who will hunt you down and climb up your legs to steal your potato chips if you have any, so be alert. Easter can be very nice here and obviously some local churches do have Easter egg hunts here (or they did last Easter). There are some neat statues and walking through this park is like walking through nature itself with the occasional blue jay flapping wings on just a nearby branch. It is a pleasant place and one which I hope to return to from time to time. It is good for kids but they of course should still be closely supervised. There are some small playgrounds and a lot of trees. It is a good place to sit and think and bring a sketchpad. read more

We have lived near Woodward Park for 27 years and it is one of my favorite Parks! There are a variety of walking trails, Linnaeus teaching gardens, the arboretum where all the trees display a plaque of their genus, Tulsa Garden Center, Tulsa Historical center, numerous water features and many other intimate areas to enjoy. Prior to the airborne disease that hit the once beautiful rose gardens, the roses were abundant with a great variety. It does appear that there is research taking place to resolve this issue and I look forward to once again walking through a beautiful variety of roses. I enjoy taking walks here alone, with family and with my dog. I also like that there are doggy waste bags onsite & it appears that the majority of responsible dog owners use them. Nice variety offered at this lovely park and it's well connected to other attractions (such as the arboretum). Great place to take the fam and kids. I have never met friendlier squirrels in my entire life. These little guys walk right up to you and they are super photogenic, seriously. It's a great park to have a picnic, hang a hammock, take some photos or just sit on the swings. Always super pretty and conveniently located near Brookside. Beautiful park! Different areas to see included a small water canal and many flower beds growing around the border of the park, enjoyed an afternoon reading under the shade of a tree. Lots of benches throughout park as well. Some traffic nose on west side of park, but otherwise perfection :) read more
