We were just driving by looking for some local trail to ride. I drove up to Woody's and checked the place our. The owner is very friendly and I think the shop is one of the most unique and cool bike shops I have ever been in and I used to work in one. If you are ever in the Helen or Unicoi State Park area stop in and check Woody's out. He has rentals and does repairs. He turned us onto some great trails and we had a blast. read more

Woody's is a great bike shop with rentals that are perfect for the area. The bikes are solid quality and are well maintained. Shifting and braking worked reliably and easily. Woody is personable, knowledgable and professional - the process could not have been easier. Definitely worth the price for full rental and shuttle service. Mountain biking in this hill was seriously hard work, but this trip enhanced our travel experience in Helen, GA. We earned some stunning views and great waterfalls along the way, witnessing the headwaters of the Chattahoochee River. Tip of my hat to the Georgia mountains - while "Forest Service Road" may not sound daunting, the 15 mile _Gap Ride_ definitely had us sweating. A few of us walked our bikes on some of the steeper hills. (And by some of us, I mean me.) With us were our 12 year old girl and 11 year old boy. Woody told us he usually will not send kids under 12 to ride that particular route. It was certainly challenging for them, but they made it with only moderate whining and in pretty fair time. The whole trip took about 4 hours. Our easy, downhill finish for the final few miles alongside the rapids of the Chattahoochee river made it worthwhile. Strongly recommended for active, adventurous travelers. read more

What a wonderful day we had today mountain biking by a beautiful little lake. It all started with Woody's shop. He was thorough with his instructions, organized honest and helpful. He had our bikes in good working order so we could focus on having fun. He then drove us to bike trails that he and a group of volunteers have made near Helen that are really amazing. I'm not an avid mountain biker. I like biking paved trails and a little off road but this was my first time in the woods for this long. The trails were so well done I wasn't afraid. It was an exciting adventure that I'd love to do again. Next time I think I'll bring a lunch to eat by the lake. Highly recommend this. read more

My wife and I visited Helen for the first time this week for our 27th wedding anniversary. We have never gone mountain biking, but have heard good things from our family. So we took the plunge today. Woody's Mountain Bikes was great. First, Woody is a very kind man. Several times during the day I saw him dealing with others by going above and beyond to help them (customers and non-customers). I planned a mountain biking trip for a boy scout troop in Sept 2014. I called Woody on the phone andd he was most helpful and knowledgeable. He was flexible and let some of the scouts bring their own bikes as long as they also brought helmets and the bikes were mechanically sound. He rented bikes with helmets to the rest of the scouts. It was worth it renting a bike from him even if you own one because it saves you the trouble of hauling it up there and his bikes are probably better than most (unless you are a real mountain biking enthusiast).Woody went so far as to collect the height of the scouts so he could properly size them to a bike. Woody is a stickler for safety. He gave the boys a good lecture. Woody I would guess has been doing this for a number of years and he knows from experience the problems that might happen and he really tries to prevent them. He is not an easy going good old boy who will let you do any stupid thing you want regardles of the danger. I felt tthat safety really does come first with him. At the same time he lets you self guide your trip and does not go along micro-managing it. The route we took, The Gap Road is on a Forest Service road. It would be difficult to get lost on this bike trips. Some of my scouts are only 11 years old and growing up in sheltered suburbs not all of them can ride very well.but they all made it.and had a great time. I took my old toyota minivan down this route at about 5 mph or less and that knocked it out of allignment. A sturdy pickup truck or SUV would do fine. We have a former professional truck driver who worked in Africa and he got our heavy scout trailer down the road but I would not recommend doing this without a driver with similar experience. Excellent camp site are along this road and in the campgrounds. This turned out to be one of the better trips for the younger scouts. read more

How on earth can a rental shop be closed on Sunday??? I understand that there might be religious people that don't want to work on that day but a rental place closed on Sunday when people have time to purchase, rent or fix a bike is ridiculous. read more
