This business is -10/10 For starters, this goes for all Telegram and Gazette locations not just Worcester. If you need to cancel your subscription, YOU CANNOT DO IT ONLINE; they have the option to do so but unless you live in a specific state you cannot (presumably because some states require an online cancellation option). If you click cancel, it gives you an error and tells you to call customer service. This is where it gets even worse. The hours for customer service are outrageous; they act like they are a bank or something with these hours. Once you finally get time to squeeze a call to them you are met with a pretty long queue time. (Personally I think it is this long just so you get so annoyed that you cancel the call) Then when you finally reach someone, it is very hard to understand them, very incoherent, I understand that people have struggles pronouncing english but when coupled with all the other problems, it seems like just another convenient roadblock. They will then ask you if you would like to change, not cancel the subscription and create any attempt to reel you back in. Once you get it through to them that their company sucks they finally cancel and if you have a question after, they just hang up! I called back to ask if they could screenshot my cancellation proof and email me it back. They said they couldn't... couldn't re-open the page used to cancel it in the first place and then press TWO computer keys to take a screenshot. (I ask this because on their website the account expiration is worded very weirdly). Now that is done and taken care of you would think that's it... nope... After you cancel you will receive multiple calls from them asking you if you want to renew and that there is a deal going on... omg... You say no... again... and they ask "why did you cancel." Then they do it again, and I presume in a couple weeks, they will call me again. My most recent interaction was that they called me about twice every single day for a week or two. I finally answered and told the guy that I want my number taken off their list. With the way everything has happened, I assume they are going to call me again haha this company sucks. read more

The only problem I had with the actual paper was that it is for Worcester, MA. I live about 45 minutes away in CT. They were signing people up at a CT grocery store in exchange for a gift card for groceries. I should have asked what area the paper covered...but the real problems started after I canceled my subscription... They mailed me offers to renew multiple times. Then they called me twice IN ONE DAY. I literally spoke to two different people that called me to sell a subscription. The second one was persistent; I had to repeat no multiple times. I finally emailed customer service a month ago asking them to stop contacting me...but I still got a mail solicitation about a week ago. Then they called me 3 times this week! I finally answered the 3rd call because they didn't leave a message the first two times. Where is the respect?​ read more

This company cannot manage a simple thing like delivering a newspaper once a week on Sundays. About a month ago, we did nor receive our paper. We called within the allotted time that morning and were told we would have it by noon. Never got it. Last Sunday, no paper again. Called again. Were promised (again) delivery between 11am & 12pm. Never got it. Today (September 18) , no paper again. Called within allotted time again. Advised of delivery truck issues. Told to expect delivery between 10am & 11am. It's now after 2pm and NO paper. The absolute worst customer service I've ever experienced. Can't get anyone to answer the phone, won't call back or process credits. I tried emailing them and, at first, received two very pleasant standard "we will resolve your issue and you are an important customer" to absolutely no response in spite of several attempts to get a response. I have been a customer for over 30 years and I have never seen the delivery service this bad. We are missing 3 to 4 papers a week. Occasionally they will leave the Boston Globe. It is a good paper, but not the one I pay for. My wife and I decided to give them one last try. I only renewed the subscription for 3 months. If the problems are still there I will not renew. An annual subscription is now up to $1300. For that money they have to do much better. I honestly think they are going out of business. They make it very easy to get a digital subscription for several months for only $1. But then they disabled the ability to cancel the renewal online. You have to call or chat with them instead. When I called, I was on hold for 20 minutes, then someone answered, agreed to transfer me to the right department, and then HUNG UP ON ME (accidently, or on purpose?). Note that other YELP reviewers had a similar thing happen to them. I then reached out via ONLINE CHAT. They agreed not to charge me anymore and to cancel renewals, but I guess I am stuck receiving the daily emails from them for 5 more months. Not what I wanted, because I wanted all charges and emails to stop, but at least I won't be charged any more money. I have very little faith that they will stop charging me, or emailing me, so I will carefully monitor my credit card and emails. Why am I not convinced? Because of the lack of chat friendliness, and grammar used in the CHAT, indicates poor training and bad customer service. So, who knows how this will end up? I am so sorry to have ever created an account with these folks. Bait and switch come to mind. You can sign up, but can you ever stop doing business with them? Reminds me of the old America Online. I am very surprised by a newspaper company that has been in business this long can't adds a stop to their route. I bought a subscription that I paid for IN ADVANCE and have yet to receive 1 paper. I only asked for the paper on Sunday. 1 day a week. I called and they are telling me they put a credit on my account, they did not. Then they send me an email today saying they can't cancel or refund unless I call in. I call in they tell me it will be 14 to 30 BUSINESS days before my refund is issued. I signed up for the subscription that they promised me the rate won't go up "forever". I was happy to get the paper everyday with that rate until one day out of blue they canceled my subscription without asking me and they tried to tell me that I was the one canceled it therefore I will need to start a new subscription if I want to continue. New subscription is of course with a higher rate than I was paying before. I felt they played very dirty, and after that I have never gotten a subscription ever. Home delivery service is beyond poor. We ordered and paid for 26 weeks of 7-day per week home delivery of the daily paper. We consistently receive only two delivered papers per week. Occasionally we will receive a back log of 3-5 papers delivered on the same day. A 5-day old paper is not "news". I call and register a daily complaint whenever no paper is delivered, yet we do not receive adequate credit for the many missing papers. We are told that missing undelivered papers were replaced by "special edition" e-magazines. When calling to register complaints for terrible service, you can only reach computerized recordings. This is the 3rd day in a row that I didn't receive a newspaper. I did a chat with customer service and got know where other than "I'm sorry"! You can't call anyone since the entire system is automated and you'll never get a phone call back. The service in my area is terrible, we always have missing newspapers on a weekly basis. You pay enough for the newspaper yet the customer service that should go with it isn't there. It's now 13 out of 16 with no paper delivered. We have our own small business and if we did so poorly we'd be OUT of business by now. The customer is always right but not with the T&G. Phone calls get us nowhere, I have actually miraculously talked to a live body once who simply said they'd report it. E-mail said they'd give us another week apparently free of charge. Free of charge for what? No paper? I've asked for at least an explanation, none shows up. The uppity ups at the paper should roll up their sleeves and do the deliveries, if that's what it takes, that's what good business means. AT least attempt to give folks the Sunday paper, it's the one most I think look forward to. Switching to another paper does nothing - they deliver more than one paper already. I have no complaints about the paper or it's journalistic standards (hence the 4 stars) but I do have regular issues with delivery. They can never seem to go more than 2 days in a row without missing a day. It's really frustrating when you're trying to support local businesses and yet they can't keep their end of the bargain. I've called customer service multiple times, use the online reporting tool when the paper isn't delivered, but it never seems to fix the problem. I'm not sure if it's management in the delivery department or just their low-paid, part-time drivers. read more

we have been trying to get the driver for years to put the paper on the stairs or in between the storm door and regular door. my mom is elderly and is weak to walk she can't go walk down the stairs. we have been finding at the end of the driveway. I don't see why it is so difficult to drive into the driveway and throw it onto the stairs. this is just laziness. read more

Shady dealings... Last July I gifted a year's subscription (basic 7-day delivery) to my 90-year old parents. I first had to pay a balance on the account (which was in itself shady since the T&G continued delivering the paper to my parents after the contract end date and then demanded payment for that service even though several calls were made to discontinue service). I agreed to pay the shady balance due (for my parents' sake so that they could receive the paper) and specifically stated that it was to be just the BASIC delivery for one year. Now my parents just received a renewal notice stating that their subscription ends on March 31. I called to try to straighten this out and was told by Theresa (who claims she doesn't have a last name) that because of the "premiums" delivered it added to the cost and as of March 31 the amount I paid last July will be depleted. I asked half a dozen times for a supervisor and was told by Theresa No-last-name that she could help me and there wasn't a supervisor available. I told her that we were talking in circles and I wasn't satisfied with her claim that she could do nothing to help me and again asked for a supervisor. Again I was told there wasn't a supervisor available. At that point I hung up. This is absolutely unacceptable and VERY SHADY DEALINGS... and probably illegal T&G policy. I hope the T&G folds and Theresa will then need to figure out her last name so she can get herself a new job. Good luck to the employer who gets stuck with her!! She started from a place of NO and never moved off of that position, regardless of what I said. Shame on the T&G for this shady policy which now prevents my 90 year-old parents from enjoying their daily newspaper!! read more

No home delivery for five straight days. 'Customer service' is useless, keep telling me the paper will be here by various times but it never arrives. They'll take my money but not deliver....isn't that stealing or fraud? For a dying industry you'd figure they would be appreciative of those who still subscribe. She said a supervisor wild call me by Thursday. I did not get a call. I got a paper that Sunday though! I thought all was set from then on until Thursday I get a call on my cellphone at 6:30 am from a carrier who can't find my house. I explained where it was and told them a gps will get them there just fine. No paper Thursday. Friday. Or today Saturday. No call to follow up either. I will be calling to cancel and request full refund tomorrow if I don't have a paper or call to get this resolved. Adding to review again. Still no paper. No call from manager. I called this morning and was on hold over 20 minutes. I had to hang up and call back on my lunch break. I cancelled the service and requested refund. Terrible service experience. So hear me out...when I called the Telegram & Gazette to place my brothers obituary, I was told to do it on line with a credit card. If they verbally took my obituary over the phone there was a "service fee charged" I did the obituary on line...It never appeared the date it was supposed to...I called to check and they said "we have to verify the actual death" I gave them the funeral homes phone number - they did the verification. 2 days later, still no obituary in the paper? I'm driving and get a phone call that they need my credit card again as it didn't go thru in their system. Okay sure - I give it to them again - the obituary appears on the day I was told. I check my credit card statement and see that the Telegram & Gazette charged me twice.... I call and call and email a copy of the double billing - Okay we'll issue you a credit. I call again today because there is no credit on my credit card. They email me a copy of the credit request- the credit was given to someone with the last name of Guardinia - Hmmm....Jette / Gaurdinia? Not sure how they screwed that up? I call back and let them know the credit was not issued to me - Um, please check your records. "Oh my" she says. I called my credit card and am disputing the 2nd charge. REALLY TELEGRAM & GAZETTE! AVOID! Received a confirmation $52 - 13 weeks-7days and ordered on 12/13/19. Received a paper bill stating subscription expires on 2/12/20 which is NOT 13 weeks. Called customer service and was referred to the following disclaimer for which there is no available "opt out" if you do an online subscription: "The advertised price does not include additional charge of up to $9 for each premium edition. Premium editions are published to provide additional information and value. Rather than bill you up to $9 for each premium edition, you agree that the length of your subscription will be shortened in proportion to the value of the number Of premium editions published and delivered to you during your subscription period, unless you elect to be billed separately for premium editions by contacting Customer Service at 800-922-8200". Deceptive, hidden and does not explain what you are paying for. Report to the Attorney General for deceptive consumer practices. read more

That being said, the T & G isn't worth the expense and is overpriced on paper and on line. They are the best source for news in the Worcester County area but there's not much too it and way to much crap. This so called newspaper has been reported multiple times to the Attorney General and the BBB and yes I have done so twice. They send bills that don't match their online payment screen when you try to pay it is double the price and their customer service states they can change pricing randomly. Rude customer service and if you try to email any of the folks listed in Worcester, they couldn't care less and will not assist. They need to be boycotted and I would if I didn't have to get this pos paper for my elderly Mom stuck in a nursing home. We have been lied to repeatedly about home delivery rates.We have an invoice and pay for 26 weeks.Their renewal bill comes 2 months later . We have to call and discussion bills from them all the time.They double bill for the same period of time. They cannot conduct an honest business.Some one has to put a stop to their deceptive ways. Worcester Telegram & Gazette accepted my payment for 8 weeks of newspaper delivery starting 1/19/20 and then stopped delivering on 2/20/20. Worcester Telegram & Gazette sent me a renewal notice on 12/9/19 which stated that my subscription was due for renewal on 1/19/20. I sent a check for the 8 weeks option for $80.00. The check cleared my bank account on 1/7/20. On 2/17/20 I received an email from them stating that my subscription was due to end on 2/20/20. I called their customer service dept. and was told that there had been a price increase after I renewed my subscription. I never received any notice of this increase. I want a refund for $40.00 for the 4 weeks newspaper delivery that I was cheated out of. When they accepted my payment of $80.00, they were obligated to deliver 8 weeks of deliveries. I think that this is a very unethical way to do business with a subscriber of almost 30 years. Overcharging my account and say that it is for a premium edition which I was never told about nor did I ever approve. I purchase the paper for my mother. The billing address and delivery address are different. She was receiving the 4 day delivery for $36 every four weeks. I called in September to ask for a better rate and was given a 7 day delivery for $20 every four weeks. The $20 was to continue to be deducted from my bank account every four weeks. I was told this rate would be locked in for one year. However, I have noticed they are charging me $20 every two weeks or so. (The debits from my account have appeared on 9/11, 10/02, 10/09, 10/31, 11/14 and now on 11/27 they are charging me a new rate of $27.20. When I called on 12/02 to discuss this, I was told the extra charges are because I have a premium account and they send extras such as a puzzle book. First of all, I was never told of this when I locked in my rate nor would I have ever agreed to this. I asked to speak to a manager and was told it would be a "very long wait." I said I would hold. A few minutes later the customer service rep came back and told me she "asked around and a manager would tell me the same thing, that I have the premium account and everyone else has this and there is nothing they can do about it." She said there was no manager there at that time. She also said they put inserts in the paper to tell people about this but as the billing account, I was never informed of this, nor was my mother received anything about it in her daily paper. read more

No Saturday or Sunday paper delivered in over a month but they charge you for them. Received 5 newspapers since January 23rd, it's now February 27th have been charged for all the rest of the papers that were never delivered. Then the nice little letter that arrived in the mail about the special editions they want to bill you for if you don't opt out. Guaranteed to be charged for them anyway. Their answer for all the problems..."if you don't get your newspaper by 5pm call and let us know". Useless. Who wants the newspaper at 5pm? It'd be real nice to have with my coffee at 5am. Days after you don't get your paper delivered they put 2 or 3 in the box after you already had to go buy them at the store and then bill you for them anyway. Our newspaper delivery man stopped delivering on the 23rd of January because he left the company and the next day they took payment for 3 months worth of papers. Coincidence? I think not. I'm assuming you are going out of business. Nothing else could explain how lousy your delivery has become esp. thru the summer and up until now in October. There have been five - 5 - Sunday papers not delivered, the expensive one the past few months and countless missing daily papers - I'd estimate at least 15 of those missing during the same time. They owe us reimbursement for each but it ain't happening. Because no matter which number you find for this paper and attempt to call, you get nowhere, it appears they are making sure we cannot reach anyone or even leave a message. We will not be subscribing again once our current subscription ends. It doesn't help to switch to another paper, the same people seem to deliver them all, which we KNOW because from time to time we get the wrong paper, which ends up on the ground rather than in the box the paper INSISTED we use, regardless of the weather. They appear unconcerned so many of us are now ending up here to complain, but they're happy to take our money. If they do go out of business they have no one to blame but themselves. And I'm not in San Francisco, no idea where they got that, I live in the Worcester area. read more

After being a continuous subscriber for more than 34 years, we recently canceled our 7-day a week home delivery subscription due to unrelenting awful service. Papers were routinely delivered late in the afternoon, were delivered on a completely different day, or were not delivered at all. Despite reporting the poor delivery service, we received no improvement in service, and only experienced increased frustration. Multiple calls to Worc T&G sent us into automated voice mail boxes. Our messages asking to have a supervisor contact us, received no response from anyone showing any interest in customer satisfaction. We canceled our subscription, verbally and in writing, citing the horrible service and the Worc T & G continued to bill us for home delivery. As a lifelong customer, I am so disappointed in how little the T&G cares about customer satisfaction. read more

I have been a Worcester Telegram subscriber for more than 20 years. Over the last 2 years delivery (supposed to be 7 days a week) has come down to maybe once a week over the past couple of weeks. I have called their customer support continuously over the period. The email managers an escalate emails but nothing has ever changed. They will say some one will call me. Ha that's never happened. At this point I'm of the mindset that the Worcester Telegram doesn't care about their print customers. All the complaints fall on deaf ears at the Telegram. My local paper is delivered daily 6 days a week by the Postal Service and they never miss a delivery. Maybe the Telegram should do the same. read more

Biggest issue is Customer Service Department. In the interest of full disclosure, I rarely read the full paper - got it largely because of the Sunday coupon section. I tried to cancel the subscription when we no longer needed to get full paper for just coupons. I was told that my subscription ran through 06-10-18 - more accurately, the Customer Service Rep told me I was paid through 06-10-18. Today I found out that I had to pay for remainder of subscription. It wasn't the amount I had to pay that is at issue - it is the fact that someone who deals with Customer Accounts doesn't have a clue how his own newspaper handles Subscriptions and Cancellations. I would also add that it is like pulling teeth to get to a live body - stayed on hold for ten (10) minutes while I waited for lackluster customer service.
