I lived in Bentonville from 2002 to 2006 and return often to visit family and friends. I could go with the "I remember when this was all farmland" but let's just say that this is the most cosmopolitan small city in the "Flyover States." Downtown Bentonville has pubs and bars and restaurants and retail shopping. This year, they have an ice skating rink with an actual Zamboni. There is public art and free modern parking decks and a world-class art museum (that's free to visit!). I learned that Bentonville is a mountain biking capital thanks to the investment of the Walton family to build trails throughout Northwest Arkansas. And tiny XNA that used to be Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport is now Northwest Arkansas NATIONAL Airport with regular commercial service to far away hubs including MSP and PHX and LGA and even FLL and MIA! The former US Highway 71 that was upgraded to Interstate 540 is now Interstate 49 and it connects I-40 with I-44 from Fort Smith to Joplin. Amazing! This evening, I had a chance to walk around the Bentonville Square which is all lit up for Christmas. What a great little city and well worth a visit! If you just want a pumpkin then go to Food For Less or the Webb City Farmers Market. But if you want a full day of fun things to do make the drive out to Exeter. There was a line to get in that took about 10 minutes, I was thinking why are there so many people here? Because it's fun and there are lots to do. Once you pay the fee to get in there is an endless list of activities (mostly geared to K-9 aged kids and families. Stuff to ride, climb on and explore. There were tea-cup style rides that were more like Disneyland than Carnaval, and lots of things for kids to do from a Combine turned into a park-like slide, rock climbing walls, petting zoos, cable and rope swings, and slides. Fire pits to hunker down and for those who come along but perhaps don't want to walk around. The food was pretty bad but they let you bring in your cooler or wagon so next time we will bring our own picnic. We waited in line at a burger and taco stand for well over an hour only to be served really bad, burned burgers with the cheapest bun they could find from the thrifty store and wilted lettuce and soggy tomato. The tacos were really bad and too spice for our grand kids who like tacos generally. They were worse than Taco Bell and, well that's hard to do! They did have little bags of corn chips you could have stuffed with taco filling like a taco salad with lettuce, meat, cheese, tomatoes, and sour cream. It was actually good and I wished I had gotten those for everyone. The drinks were 3/4 filled, expensive and flat. There were a few other food stands and a BBQ place but we did not try those. We did about half the corn maze before the grandkids were tuckered out and wanted to turn back which was fine with us. All in all we had a fun day and the kids were completely worn out from all the fun stuff to do and there wasn't really any waiting for that. The only rides we saw that required extra fees were the two gocart tracks.
