Just had my absolute worst experience ever in an airport terminal. First, they're advertising a rewards app, so I go to download it. But no cellular, so I try to connect to the "free" airport WiFi, but they've changed that and now require a lengthy sign up process which just didn't work! After I get 4G again I download the rewards app, only to find an even lengthier signup process. 20 minutes later I've finally got a rewards account and go to pay at a SELF SERVICE till. But, rather than be allowed to SERVE MYSELF, the attendant snatches the items out of my hand and starts scanning them herself, then taps through to the payment screen! Flustered, I just pay, only realising after that I didn't scan my new rewards app. Then, when I complain that I didn't get the opportunity and that I'd have liked to serve myself, I'm told I'm being rude. Well, I wasn't being rude before, but now I certainly am. WHEN PEOPLE DELIBERATELY CHOOSE TO USE SELF SERVICE, THEY WANT TO SERVE THEMSELVES. Perhaps because they like going SLOW and don't deal with people well because they're not neurotypical.
They have no way of adding my purchase to my rewards account after the fact, so instead suggest to refund me and put the purchase through again. At this point the whole shopping ordeal is approaching 40 minutes, eating away into time I'd rather have spent enjoying a beer before my flight and relaxing.
They're pushy about putting though the transaction again, even though I repeatedly said I'd rather not give them any money and just be on my way.
They even employ someone with autism, yet fail to recognise how flustering having to deal with people might be to someone, which is why that someone originally wanted to use SELF CHECKOUT! SELF SERVICE! NOT HAVE THEIR ITEMS SNATCHED FROM THEIR HANDS AND SCANNED FOR THEM AND PUSHED THROUGH TO PAYMENT WITHOUT A MOMENT'S PAUSE OR THOUGHT.
Absolute worst retail experience I've EVER had ANYWHERE across multiple countries, even France. (And, of course, the original attendant wasn't even Scottish or a native English speaker who might understand Anglosphere cultural norms better.)
IF A CUSTOMER CHOOSES SELF SERVICE, LET THEM SERVE THEMSELVES.
I will absolutely never be buying anything ever again from this company. read more
