World Market has been one of my favorite stores to buy all things home decor, exotic snacks and drinks, furniture and even cute boho chic clothes and jewelry. I'm there at least once a month to check out the candle selection-my go-to scent is the Amber as it smells amazing. My recent art purchases are gorgeous and allow me to support a black-woman artist through her collaboration with World Market- I really like that they have tags with the artists name and brief story. I could write endless reviews about my countless positive experiences at world market. The only issue I have is that I can spend hours in the store and also spend waaay too much money. It's not know for being cheap but the quality of most items are definitely worth the price points. They also have great sales pretty often and their loyalty program is legit. I always have rewards, which obviously causes me to shop all the more. read more

Bad service, bad management, they talk to you like you have no clue. Purchased some things online and one item cancelled. It was sitting on the shelf and they wouldnt put it into the order and tried to tell me it was just returned but I had ordered the items after close the previous day and arrived when the store opened. Go to Harvey instead! Much more organized and super friendly and helpful staff. read more

No matter the State, no matter which location, Cost Plus/World Market will always be a 5 star rated business for me. I started shopping at Cost Plus in the 80s, perusing every inch of this vast store discovering exotic items from all over the world. It's where I discovered Haribo gummy bears, sold only in loose bulk at the time(Look how far that company has come over the years). Originally named "Cost Plus" for its "sold at cost, plus 10%" standard. This store offers everything from wines to dinnerware, international food to furniture, greeting cards to holiday decor and so much much more. I specifically shop for my international food here. My oldest son's Father was English and so I shopped here for things he loved and eventually things I now love. I also pick up delicious Easter basket finds in the Spring and also pop in at Christmas for stocking stuffers and Christmas Crackers. Over the years, I undoubtedly have shopped or gifted items from every department. In the last years they developed a rewards program and I was pleasantly surprised at 30$ in cash coupons. Another hidden perk? They're owned now by Bed, Bath & Beyond. So guess what? Those BB&B coupons are honored here too....shhhhhhhhh that's just between you and me ;) Go in and treat yourself to an exotic discovery, you'll be happy you did. read more

I just, plain, love this place. The merchandise is so varied, so unique, and they carry lots of beautiful home goods. I've bought towels, bar ware, candles, and lots of other good stuff. My all time favorite items are their cabinet knobs. Check. Them. Out. I make it a point to visit World Market before the holidays, as they carry international goods that you won't see in other stores, and the prices are more than reasonable. Today I stopped in for discounted Halloween decorations and was happy to see that they had a good selection left on the shelves. They are putting out Christmas items now, and so many things caught my eye. Now for the food and wine - YES!!! Great selection of wine at low prices. And I could spend all day perusing the food and sweets aisles. The chocolate!!!!! Chocolate with salt, with figs and pistachios, with honey, and on and on and on. I just Love Cost Plus World Market! I'm a frequent card member and have bought everything from jewelry to furniture here! In fact, my bookshelf, tv stand and bed frame are from here! I love the fact that they even have coupons you can use! And the people here are so helpful! I was looking for wicker baskets and they showed me what they had against the wall. I also inquired about some Christmas white lights and they showed me the various spots in the store they were located. I also like their extensive wine selection and specialty food items! During the summer I was planning a picnic with a beau and bought the most adorable picnic basket here! It had a red and white plaid lining, plastic wine glasses, wooden cheese board and knife, just quintessential picnic basket! I also got some specialty items like mink cheeses, sausages, etc. sadly the picnic never happened but I did enjoy the food i got! Hehe This is a great place to find gifts as well with jewelry, scarves, and pampering bath stuff! did I mention I got my shower curtain from here too? Hehe I love this store! I love this store. It has so many unique things that you can't find anyplace else. I bought a wooden entry table about 15 years ago when I lived in Georgia and have been shopping here ever since. My teenagers are even fans now. Last week, my son needed some finger traps for a project at school and this was the only place that had them. They have an abundance of items from all over the world and it's so much fun just to browse. I assigned my kids items to get me for Christmas and they were able to order online and pick up quickly in the store. My daughter wanted to go back and shop and she found several things that she purchased. I like this location in Elmwood because there are so many other nearby shops for clothing and shoes and after shopping, there are plenty of restaurants to grab a bite to eat. There is plenty of parking and this store doesn't compete for spaces which is great! read more

Rugs, furniture, decorations, food! Chocolate! This is a great place for that perfect accessory for your home, side dish or appetizer for your meal or that one exact decoration that will top off the perfection of your room/house/whatever you live in. There is plenty of parking in front, lots of other places near to eat at or finish the rest of your shopping. Inside is large. High ceilings, lights that will not burn your retinas, wide aisles, friendly staff. You are bound to find that perfect holiday or birthday gift here and for a great price. About a month ago, my fiancé walked in at just about 8pm. Mins to 8pm in fact. He was wanting to run in to grab some wine for me while my nephew and I sat in the car. After a few short moments, I noticed he was speaking aggressively; which is not like him at all. I continue to watch and think oh wait he's pissed what happened. He gets in the car and he's fuming. Explains that a young woman was at the register near the double doors and as he entered the store she waved him off as if he was a gnat and said we're closed. He proceeded to say "well, that's not how you speak to potential customers, there's a way to talk and what you just done isn't right." She continues to tell him with an attitude that they were closed (while other customers were still walking around and shopping) and she also says to him "I don't care we're closed get out of my store." This infuriated him, he's a well mannered bear. So for him to get as pissed as he was she really pushed him. I found out that as she's saying all of this with an attitude she's still waving him off as if to dismiss him. He tried to tell her he was a businessman and the way she's behaving is absolutely unacceptable and if he was another person he'd probably beat her up. I'm not one to give one side of the story. I wouldn't have even left this review if they were both wrong. The fact of the matter is he doesn't yell. ever! we've been together for over 15 yrs and it really takes a lot to get to that level. In any event, world market should promptly let this woman go because as the first face of the company a consumer is seeing, she's an extreme disappointment. He made a comment of all of his years in America (he's Caribbean) he never felt racism until he stepped foot into world market. I'm leaving this review everywhere and I'm also emailing corporate. We were traveling and now we're back with time to make a proper complaint as a resident of elmwood. read more

Cost Plus is a fun place to shop, some discovery around every corner and lots of practical items as well as international foods, furniture and a wine section. I find this a great place for unique gifts. I was admiring a tiny wooden cabinet with colorful ceramic drawers, wondering about it making a delightful earring box when a woman bounded up behind me asking "do you scrapbook?" She didn't really pause for my answer but proceeded to tell me how this item was perfect for those little things for scrapbooking and how she had two and organized the drawers by color to indicate their content. Alrighty. Well, my boss is a scrapper and her birthday was two weeks away, so bingo! Then, it ended up being 25% off with your Cost Plus member card. Bonus! SOME COOL STUFF BUT IRRATIONAL PRICING I bought a sexy but MDF side table "hand embossed in India" at World Market for way above cost at $320. If I had waited 4 months it would have been $180. I first discovered the joys of World Market when I moved outta NYC (where there are none) and into the KC area. Look, I cannot stand chain anything for the most part, but Cost Plus World Market is like a cheaper, bigger, better version of Pier One Imports. It's a smaller, more boutiquey, more *worldly* Bed Bath and Beyond. And the grocery section, while small, is just so much cheaper than Whole Foods. So sue me. I cannot resist WOMA's charms. I used to live quite close to one in KC and I was there an average of 2 times per week, picking up wine, candles, incense, seasoning, imported snacks, storage baskets, towels, outdoor lighting, bath products, hazelnut biscotti and more. Not to mention wickedly discounted Halloween decorations on November 1st. It just has all of my favorite things in one store. Even the decor is right up my alley (though admittedly, too expensive when you consider some, not all, is made in China). I move a lot and tend to stop in here for things like rugs, curtains, bamboo mats etc. Want to read about my purchases made on Saturday? Too bad, you're going to have to! Wine glasses, pot holders, olive oil, incense, champagne, amber colored soup bowls, pink Himalayan salt aaaaand the coup de grâce, black truffle oil. For roughly 12 dollars, the bottle I bought is twice the size of the one I bought at Whole Foods for 18 dollars (I was desperate). What stops it from the fifth, elusive star. I'm a member of the World Explorer club (far too many emails) and yes, I may print the coupons out, but I always forget to use them. Why not just make it a given if you, as a member (who suffers through opening and deleting all those emails) are shopping there, that you get the 10% off without having to go to the trouble of printing and remembering? One other extremely annoying thing: they sticker just about every damn item, including all the wine glasses in a box of 6! These are a bitch to remove and it makes me ballistic to have bits of sticker left on glassware. WTH? This has to stop. Otherwise, WOMA, I just can't quit you. read more

With that said, you can still find a bunch of unique items specific to other countries. The wine/beer/specialty drink area is pretty extensive, so that's definitely worth checking out. I really like Cost Plus for a chain store. It's like Anthropologie's stylish grandma without the clothes and maybe more of a price break. It still has a uniqueness about it that you sometimes don't see in the bigger stores, so I like to come here for presents/cards for friends, check out their rugs, furniture and kitchenware and peruse their spice aisle for something different to put on my Lazy Susan. The furniture isn't cheap but it's REALLY CUTE, and made for smaller apartments and, sometimes, like this month they'll have a great sale on their more expensive items, i.e. rugs. What's funny is my boyfriend thought it was a full grocery store like Whole Foods. While it does carry wine, chips, candy, sauces, spices, coffee and some other edible bags and bottles of items-there is nothing really refrigerated except for maybe the soda fridge up front. I would definitely suggest coming here before Target but after shopping locally-owned stores on Magazine or Royal for that perfect gift OR new vase for your dining room table. The employees were very nice to me when I asked for costing on items, and she didn't stop me from grabbing two handfuls of their limey sea salt chips by the counter while I checked out, in fact, she encouraged it. read more

If you like a rude employee and getting your online order canceled without notice(and bank still charged),and only find out a 3 weeks later because you made a phone call wondering about it,then this is the store for you. They also like to not update their stock inventory on their website. Example: if there is only 2 listed available on their website,they hold it for other costumers to pick up,so it's "technically still in their inventory"(per phone conversation I had with store employee). But technically it is NOT available,which is false advertisement. It's also not first come/first serve with online ordering,because people who ordered after me are getting their order. Reason being,per their email they only hold the item for 10 days. I ordered 3 over weeks ago. If that's the case,then those 2 "available" are on hold for another costumer that ordered after me. That being said, I ordered a modular sofa . When I originally purchased online ,all the pieces were completely available online for in store pick up,no limited availability number listed,per the website. I was later emailed that there was a delay(no cancellation),but I still should get. I ordered 4 pieces. 3 had to be shipped from the warehouse,even though they supposedly cancel orders if it isn't physically there. So very obviously it WASNT at the store and had to be shipped. If that harahan employee was accurate,then my whole order should've been canceled. When I picked up my first piece the associate I spoke with said they unfortunately ship them separately. So I figured I was still waiting on that piece. When I spoke with an associate today,she said that order was canceled twice(?!?), without notice to me or my bank institution. I said I didn't cancel it,and she wouldn't confirm it was canceled on their end,just that it was and that I would have to call costumer service. After 1.5hrs waiting to speak to someone,they explained they way the stores do things and also had to contact my own bank institution and calculate my own refund. When I called Harahan back, the same lady answered. She said even though the website says 2 available,it's for other costumers. And they cancel if it's not physically at their store. So if I order online for pick up they would cancel it. They won't back order it and have the warehouse ship one. Which is clearly a lie,because my earlier order was back ordered and had to be shipped from the warehouse,which means it wasn't at their store. I also spoke with someone online who debunked her. This store had no apologies,no sympathy. Like it was my problem,not theirs and they can't be bothered. Just a rude employee. Not all the employees,just this particular one I spoke with on the phone. Online rep had a better attitude,and was able give me some advice. So as far a Cost Plus goes,westbank is the best bank from now on when it comes to costumer service and online ordering. read more

Worst retail experience EVER. I believe I was approached by I believe the owner of the store who in-fact reeked of cigarettes. Not only did I notice she smelled like cigarettes, but the closer I walked to the back of the store I could smell it too! In no way should cigarettes smoke be lingering in a retail store! read more

It's fun here and I can never seem to leave empty handed. There are all sorts of knick knacks, treats and more importantly, alcoholic drinks. While this world market is larger than the one on the West Bank, I find that things get sold out quicker here too. Employees here are friendly and give off a fun hippie vibe. I recommend signing up for their emails/points club. There's almost always a 10% off coupon and you get rewards when you hit $100 in purchases. My favorite perk overall would be their rotating sales. Examples include the large 750mL Torani syrups for $5, the large 750mL ginger beers for less than $4, or 15% off 4 or more bottles of wine. The cashiers won't remind you though so be sure to have your coupon pulled up when you check out. While their prices aren't the lowest of the low (cough Asian food section is a rip off cough), World Market has a good selection and a fun concept. I love this place but I HAVE to stay out of it. Their wine section takes all my money. Usually, you get 20% off wines when you buy 4. The other day I went in and it's now 30% off when you buy 6. Keep in mind, the wines are ALREADY reasonably priced but then to entice me even more with discounts is just plain cruel. They have sparkling wines, lot of roses, sake, sangria, etc. They also have these super cute small bottles that you can make a rocking gift basket with. I also love their gift bags, which I realize is a weird thing to comment on but hey I'm picky. My favorite one that I've purchased from here says "This was really thoughtful of me". Let's all laugh together. They also have cute jewelry. I just bought more earrings the other day for only $5. The scarves are nice too. I keep one wrapped around me at work to stay warm and cozy. Their furniture is so pretty but out of my price range at the moment haha but I won't say I haven't been tempted to splurge especially on a lamp or some decorative pillows. Also, if you love the random foods at TJ Maxx and Marshalls then check their food section out. It will put them to shame. Tahini, fruits & nuts in honey, a few different hot sauces, loads of spices, etc. There's plenty more that I haven't mentioned so do yourself a favor and go and check it out. read more

I absolutely love this place. Where else can you find Veuve Cliquot, salted caramel brownie mix, wrapping paper, a puzzle,and a sofa. This place has it all. It's sort of like a fancy Dollar General. They come up with the most awesome merchandise from all over the world, really good and interesting stuff. And the prices are really fabulous for most things. This is like most Cost Plus that I have been to. It has a some neat home things, great snack and spice selection, and a wonderful wine selection too. The food and wine items are at a great price, the home items are a little pricier though, but good quality. I was the kid in the candy store going through everything. You can't find most of the snacks and such anywhere around here. This is reason enough to give it 4 stars. The reason why I give it 5 stars? because the guy at the check out was really helpful (told me to sign up for a card to save 10%, and told me that If i bought one more dollar worth of stuff, that he would scan the $10 off coupon for me). I got $30 worth of snacks for $20. Let's also consider that a lot of my snacks were already on sale. I often get the $10 off coupon off $30 purchase, so i'm going to keep that in mind when i decide i need to get some new snacks. read more

A global import store that appeals to the young liberal demographic. Unfortunately, their sourcing practices eschew Fair Trade certification in favor of unregulated products with the highest profit margins. The products are lovely inside and the store associates are friendly. The "make your own 6 pack" concept is fun too. Its a low-risk way of trying zany beers. For that, I like it. But I just can't look away from all those "Made in China" and "Made in Bangladesh" stickers without questioning the labor standards under which they were produced. read more

It turns out World Market has a wine tasting about once a month. Somehow I swear I've made every single one for the past 6 months. Luck? Probably not, I just love to come here so much that I'm here almost every Saturday, and some of those happen to be wine tasting time. Why should you go... well, they have some pretty cool fruniture, and really fantastic seasonal stuff. For example, it is summer right now and they have some of the cutest unbrellas, tables, and outside table ware/accessories. I recently bought some clear plastic wine glasses that look pretty classy but won't break if I accidentally drop them on the pool deck. Also, if there is some popular foreign food item that you love, but you can't find (curry ketchup, veggiemite, york gold tea, asian candies... etc.) they always seem to have what you're looking for. These items also make great gifts. In addition, I also find the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Even if I don't buy anything a trip here seems refreshing, but how often do I go in and buy NOTHING.... ummm, almost never. read more

I like the products at World Market, but unfortunately the management and the lack of professionalism from them is why I have stopped shopping with them. They remind why I hate national chains, because they don't care about customer service. At the end of the day, you are one of a million customers so who cares if you leave unhappy. Great place to bring the Mrs when she's jonesing for some English snacks. This place can be dangerous for your pocketbook, though. You'll start rationalizing why you absolutely must have the porcelain tea kettle in the shape of an owl or the giant oak table that looks like something out of a Robin Hood tale. I tell you what though. This place is THE place to go when you want to get some items that can only be exported from Europe. What a cool store! I came here just because it sounded interesting and was in the area. You walk in and realize that it really is a "World Market". It is divided into sections for furniture, decor, food items, or alcohol. Each section has a good variety and enough options that come from different countries around the world. Though everything may not truly be authentically made in their supposed countries, they still look uniquely from it and have their own attractive qualities. Take the furniture for instance. You can find some Persian inspired rugs, London clocks, Japanese teapots, Mexican chairs, and more! There are so many hidden gems all around and it is just fun to take a look at everything. Its like antique style finds in a department store type of setting. Now for the food it can be a kind of hit or miss. You can find things here like Pocky or Tapatio that are supposedly super "ethnic", but honestly they can be bought in other places. Not all the food items are only found at World Market. I did see some Maui Onion chips though and I can never find them anywhere else in NOLA. So many spices for cooking and lots of candies to try as well. What I really like from World Market is their alcohol and wine selection. Sooooooo many things to choose from and perfect for parties you are hosting. If you see a type of beer you want to try they also have a small selection of single bottles. Though this store is kind of in the medium level price range it is worth a visit. They ususally have sales going on and I found these cute plates, cups, and tea pots that were really cheap. It is also around the beginning of Halloween season so they are putting out lots of decorations. They are some of the most unique and coolest looking collections! It's unfortunate that a chain like this would sell such a blatantly falsely-advertised product. They have a Trappist beer gift set that clearly advertises four different beers on the package, so imagine my consternation in buying one only to discover that just two of the four beers are included in the set. I assumed it was just a one-off mistake, but when I went back and told the employees, we saw that ALL of them were the same. I returned mine for a refund. This was over a month ago, and I just saw that the store is CONTINUING to sell them regardless. read more
