I've been coming to the West Edmonton Mall (and the delights within, including the World Waterpark) for over 8 of the last 9 years. Dipped into the wavy, warm water many times over those cold, cold winters. Coming from California, there's barely anything more delightful to my senses than coming in from the windy -40 C outside into the mall, and then stepping into the even warmer waterpark! The sound of the lapping water, the shouts of happiness, and the smell of treated pool water is the fastest way to get from Edmonton to the tropics. The waterslides are just fantastic, from the most gentle to the vertical drop, and this is from someone who isn't naturally given to running over to the roller coasters. The World Waterpark is a most effective antidote to those Western Canadian winters! Many an iffy day has been transformed here into something long worth remembering. Perfect for little kids, who get their own kiddie pool, and for groups, don't make the mistake of underestimating how much time you'll want to spend here. Bring a good book, 'cause there's also chaise lounges, which are another way to revel in this joy.

This is a super fun family friendly place to come for a swimming adventure. It can be very pricey but we got 50% off tickets because we stayed at the Fantasyland hotel. They have special offers at times so check it out. Inside the Waterpark is a bit expensive for food / drinks but taste oh so good. We got a pizza and it really hit the spot for our lunch here. The staff are super friendly and helpful we met a wonderful girl named Amy there who was so great, she worked at the main concessions. The slides are super fun and some are scary hahaha but if you like water slides this place is great for that. They do have some slides closed at times too so you may run into that but I think it's good at least we know they're maintaining them. The change rooms are clean and you can go in and out of the lockers at anytime. They're a bit pricey for the lockers but with unlimited in/out I didn't mind it too much. The wave pool is super fun and get some tubes at the front to fill enjoy this part of the water park. They also have life jackets there too if you need one. And there are designated areas and slides for the little kids too so they can have fun here as well. There's also hot tubs around the Waterpark for you to warm up but the temperature inside the Waterpark is already nice and warm too!

We spent one full day at the Waterpark. The hours felt too short. It was only open from 10 am to 5 pm. We rented a cabana at $275 plus the cost of admission, tube rentals and food. The kids loved the Waterpark especially the sections meant for smaller kids to enjoy. We ate lunch with a little bit of privacy in our cabana. Food was overpriced for what it was, but no outside food was allowed. Towel service was included with the cabana. We had a semi-private restroom to share with people in the nearby cabanas. This one day family activity costed over $500. It was on the expensive side. However, I think it was worth it as a splurge experience. Definitely not something I would do regularly.

Complete false advertising. Paid full price on a Thursday despite this clearly stating $40

Absolutely terrible experience. First the website clearly states $40 weekday prices, and was refused this when arriving. This place is so understaffed, more than half the slides are out of service, and they let in about 8 times more people than can be efficiently accommodated, resulting in getting (no I'm not joking here) a total of 3 slides in a 4 hour visit. 1 1/2 hour wait times for slides?! You want to go in the Hot tub? Nope, at least 20 people were in line the whole day, more than a one hour wait. Want a towel? Pay. Want a locker? Pay (even if you bring your own lock) want a tube? Pay. want food? Wait in line for an hour+ then massively overpay. Kids were freezing the entire time, water is way too cold. We went to our simple hotel pool after and had the best time there. We will NEVER return to this abomination of a water park again, is falling apart, in need of massive repairs, and triple the staff. Absolutely inexcusable

The World Water Park is always a good time. I don't know if it's because of the lack of options in Edmonton, but it's a good time. It's also cool to have the option to go to shopping or to a restaurant or to your hotel right after you spend the day swimming and playing! The World Water Park is kind of like a playground for grown ups! Water slides galore will keep you entertained and the stairs up will keep you in shape! The wave pool is fun too. It can get really crowded though so be careful on busy days! It's always a treat to watch someone bungee jump at the water park too - I wouldn't do it but it's fun watching someone else do it. There's a place for snacks and drinks too if you need to refuel and get some energy back in you (they can be pricey though). It's a good time. If you haven't been, you should check it out!

We have gone a few times this year, early June and it was quite cold to the plus 30 degrees and have a great time each time. As on now there are no capacity limits or lines ups which was great when it is so hot. There is a concession on site as well so if you want a cool treat it is covered. Bathrooms are also on site so please of for the love of all things that are fun have your children use the washroom. We went when a (hopefully) child left a log and the staff were quick to close the park down, clean the deck and the water treated. Also there is a nice sized park right in the same area and picnic tables. Lots of places to sit or there is lots of grass to lay a blanket down. But double thumbs up to the staff that monitor the park, they are the real mvps.

There is also the snack shack and St Albert rec staff on hand at all times for first aid. Last summer we visited more than 20 spray/splash parks and this one still knocks it outta the park!

Tonight I sat way too long in the lineup at Peter's, so naturally I thought of this location on my way home. It was super windy and quite chilly tonight. I debated just looking at the lake from the vehicle but I wanted to see what birds were out there. So I had a fast eating kind of picnic while watching the geese at the lake, checked out the playground to see if it's worth bringing the nephews and nieces (definitely cool!) and just enjoyed watching the sun set from different angles. It's a large park with the road dividing the off leash area from where the playground is. Trees look to be the boundary to the gold course further back in the park. If you're looking for well set up group spaces for picnics that are family friendly, I'd recommend this location. Lots of parking too. Oh

This park is OUT OF THIS WORLD!…read more There are so many playgrounds here, it is easy for me to get lost! TONS of parking, at least 5 separate playgrounds including - toddler playground, big kid playground, rock wall/climbing and rope course play ground, HUGE spray park, and a freaking monkey bars playground... that's right, I said a monkey bars playground with more than 20 different types/styles of monkey bars. This park is INSANE - if you haven't been here, you NEED to come. Get up, right now and go! So pray tell, why am I only giving 4 stars rather than 5 stars? Well... Okay, compared to my family's personal have spray park, this park does not offer concessions, is not staffed during all open hours, and has a lake that little ones could run off to quickly and possibly get wet or be in a dangerous situation. So... If coming here with only big kids that you trust not to go in the lake or run out in the parking lot, then this park may become your very favourite. If you are like me with two kids under 6, this park requires a 1:1 ratio of adults to children to be certain of safety. I will most definitely be coming back here again and again and again!

Castle Downs comes in at a strong 4 out of 5 stars. Today was a jam packed Sunday afternoon with so very many options including multiple playgrounds, giant gazebo, skatepark, 2 food trucks - ice cream and a Poutine/burger/fry truck, and the city of Edmonton Green Shack peeps. The Spray park had several zones including a musical piano, spray cannons, and loops of water you can run through. PROS Multiple water and playground zones -something for everyone Washrooms Food trucks Green shacks Huge grass fields/hills surrounding park Ample parking lot City of Edmonton Staff Rubber ground for majority of spray park and playground Lots of swings CONS Too big! So big that it was easy to lose track of my toddler even while playing with him on the playground and in the spray park Zones are not fenced in so if you lose track of your child, they could go missing quickly or wander to the parking lot/road. Close proximity of townhomes attached to the backing grass, again not fenced off, would also make it easy for a child to wander to a residential area. Some people may be thinking, hey watch you kid(s) and yes BUT if you are here with several children (especially toddlers) we all know how fast one can run off while attending to another child. The water cannons shoot water hard enough to nearly knock my toddler off his feet - good for BIG kids but not so great for my toddler and kindergartner Lack of shade - lots of people set their chairs up against the washroom building to try and find shade Very few benches/picnic tables In summary, Castle Downs park has loads of amenities and lots of space but so much so that it felt overwhelming at times and difficult to keep track of little ones. If you have a big kid that doesn't require sight and sound supervision, this may be the park for you! But if you're like me with a toddler and little kid, this park was a little too much for us coupled with a lack of shade or fenced in areas resulting in a solid 4 out of 5 stars. PS - If you are planning on coming here with little ones under 5 - I'd recommend a 1:1 ratio of supervision to toddlers :-)
